New Poll: Trump Up In Florida

Hillary-Trump

A new Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Business and Economics Polling Initiative (BEPI) poll  finds Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton by two points:

  • Donald Trump – 43%
  • Hillary Clinton – 41%
  • Gary Johnson – 8%
  • Undecided  – 5%

This is the first Florida poll that finds Trump leading since early July. The Donald’s two point lead is within the poll’s margin of error.

Another attention grabbing finding from this poll is that Trump gets 40 percent of the Hispanic vote:

Trump leads among white voters 49 to 33 percent, but trails with African Americans 68 to 20 percent, as well as Hispanics 50 to 40 percent.

“The race between Clinton and Trump among Hispanics in Florida is closer than it is nationally,” said Monica Escaleras, Ph.D., director of the BEPI. “Some of that is probably the Cuban vote. Trump’s support among Latinos in Florida is helping him stay competitive.”

Both candidates are underwater in Florida. Trump is seen as favorable by 41 percent while 56 percent view him as unfavorable. Hillary is even worse — she is seen as favorable by 40 percent while 58 percent view her as unfavorable.

The most important issues for Florida voters are dissatisfaction with government – 29 percent, Jobs – 18,  immigration – 13 percent, and ISIS – 12 percent.

The FAU/BEPI poll of 1,200 likely Florida voters was conducted from August 19-22 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percent.

The new FAU poll’s results are much different than the poll St. Leo University released on Tuesday. That poll found Clinton beating Trump by 14 percent in Florida.

The Real Clear Politics average for Florida: Trump vs. Clinton has Hillary up by 3.6 percent. Hillary’s lead is 4 percent in a four-way match up.
