Both parties have communications problems. Republicans need to learn from Democrats.

During this election season it has become apparent that Republicans and Democrats have the same problem. Or at least they sort of have the same problem. They both make a lot of noise and accusations and excuses ad nauseaum. The fundamental differences as as follows:

Democrats are convinced that they are significantly more intelligent than their constituencies. Because of this they feel free to define “causes” and “effects” with much poetic license, even to the point of being disingenuous. Ok, I used a big word. They take the current status of “their” voters, tell them how bad it is, tag the blame on a target across the aisle and embellish; often they just lie. However, they do one thing very very well that Republicans should learn. Democrats have learned to personalize the problems that are perceived and actually felt by voters. They “feel” their pain, or at least do a good job of convincing voters that they do. When Dems identify a conservative “target” person or policy they follow that up with their estimation of how that “target” is personally affecting or will affect them personally. This is a powerful motivator. Instead of being vague, they get up close and in the living room of their audience. These are the skills of the community organizer. They find personal, individual pain and focus the individual outrage against it.

Republicans on the other hand are much more non-personal about their description of a problem. For example, when was the last time that you actually heard a Republican talk about the deficit in a way that people can identify with? How much is $1.4 trillion dollars? It’s a whole lotta money, and frankly beyond the comprehension of most people. How much is a whole lot? A stack of $100 bills that equal $1.4 trillion is a stack that is more than a mile high.. how about that? Even better: How much do people pay every day in taxes to cover the interest on that $1.4 trillion? The tax dollars that come at gunpoint from everyone’s paycheck are increased by x dollars because of this deficit spending. Rarely do Republicans personalize issues in a way that catches the attention of their supporters and “potential” supporters.

This is a huge weakness in communication. Some people are so busy with life that they don’t really stop to consider the ramifications of some news tidbit. You cannot blame them for that. They work hard, take care of the kids and try to stay healthy. They don’t have the time to analyze what it really means to them, and frankly, conservative activists need to do a better job of identifying this for them.

The reason for this is simple. Both parties “assume” certain things regarding the intelligence of their constituencies and more importantly they “assume” a particular motivation level. This is deadly wrong. Democrats assume that voters are not as smart as their leaders and will accept any explanation for their lot in life. Republicans, on the other hand, assume that their supporters are motivated enough to extrapolate real personal impact from their vagueries. Both of these assumptions couldnt be more distant from the truth. Republicans could stand to learn some “personal” skills from their liberal antagonists.

In an interview today more reminscent of a conversation with your next-door neighbor,Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp talked about military voters and Georgia’s recent legislative changes regarding military voters and their accessibility to the election processes.

Military voters have had difficult times voting in local and national elections simply because of time and distance. While many states have been dragging their feet on compliance with the MOVE Act, The Secretary of State’s office and the Georgia Legislature have allowed no grass to grow under their feet on this issue. The Federal MOVE Act was designed to help with this and in the early part of the year the Georgia Legislature passed HB 1073 which is a state law that essentially complies with the Federal statute. For the first time in history, Military voters from the state of Georgia will be able to access their ballots online instead of waiting for these ballots to be mailed to them. The ballots are printed, completed, and mailed back for tabulation by the state after which the counties are notified of these counts. It is a sea change that has been supported by Secretary Kemp’s office in addition to HB 665. HB 665, which was sponsored by Representative Mark Hamilton, is a giant leap forward in that it provides for a pilot program to be developed by the Secretary of State’s office which will allow military voters to vote whereever they are in the world electronically, eliminating the mailing process.

On a companion subject, the Mr. Kemp indicated that the prevention of voter fraud was high on his office’s priority list and as such, the State’s litigation efforts against the U.S. Department of Justice were continuing. The root issue for this lawsuit is that Georgia contends that it is only proper to ask for reasonable identification for a voter to register and vote in elections. Groups such as the ACLU and other activist organizations complain that the idea that identification should be required eliminates qualified voters from the voter registration rolls.

For activist groups, as is the case in states such as Illinois, a pulse should be sufficient. Or maybe that is asking for too much as well. It is clear in Georgia that the standard is a bit higher. The voter needs to be who they say they are, a citizen of Georgia, and a citizen of the United States. This seems pretty reasonable.

The Secretary of State’s office has a website set up for citizens to notify them regarding potential voter fraud.

It seems every day another congressional leader from the left side of the aisle makes ominous rumblings about just what they could get done in a lame duck session of Congress during the month of December. This is more of the nasty side of DC politics and liberals typically write their own rulebooks when denied the chance to do things by normal and proper processes. This year is no exception.

Republicans need a strategy that continues beyond the ethics investigation of Charlie Rangel. Dems have certainly bent, broken and trashed rules and laws over the last two years. Sharp-eyed Republicans should know exactly what these violations are, and give Democrats something to worry about. A good anti-Lame Duck strategy would be to get on the offensive and play as dirty as necessary to put Democrats on their heels.

A failure to do so will guarantee 4-6 years of working to repeal legislation enacted in a 30 day period.

Everyone has heard the story about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and more than a few of us have actually wished we could find it. The truth is that the pot of gold in the form of success is truly achievable, but you won’t find it at the end of a rainbow; you need a stairway instead!

The stairway that you need is one that sequentially and progressively puts you on the path to your dreams and goals. In fact, success is certainly no destination. It is simply the orderly and progressive accomplishment of dreams and goals. I like to visualize the necessary building blocks of the stairway by using that word “stairway” as an acronym. It helps to remind me of the basic things that I should be doing every day to become successful. If you can imagine that truly the goal you seek is at the bottom of a rainbow, then the real trick would be to get to the top, and then it’s just a gentle slide to the bottom…once you have your act together enough to get to the apex in the first place.

The first letter of the word is “S” which stands for “Stretch Yourself“. Nobody who was ever successful at anything was content to stay in the same little box, accepted limitations, or refused to venture outside of their normal little world. Stretch Yourself means think bigger; do things that aren’t comfortable to you; increase your personal limits.

The next letter is “T”. T stands for “Try New Things”. As an extension of stretching, then trying new things exposes you to new opportunities, new people, and new methods. The willingness to do this will open up a two dimensional world and truly make it three dimensional. It produces a sea change in a person’s life.

The third letter is A. It stands for “Associate with Successful People”. My father always told me that if I swim with fish long enough, I would start to smell like one. Of course his commentary was on friends of mine that he didn’t particularly care for however, the antithesis of this comment is powerful indeed: if you want to be successful, then spend time around truly successful people. You will pick up lots from their attitudes and methods of negotiating life and business. They can be good influences on you if you choose them wisely; winners hang with winners.

Next is the letter “I”: “Identify Your Goals“. I like this one because it reminds me to constantly keep the goals I have set for myself in front of me. These goals are important because then at least you have a pretty good idea of at least where you are going. They provide a motivation for you when the road is steep or the going gets tough.

“R” stands for “Realize You are Unlimited”. Have you ever wondered why a chimpanzee is supposedly stronger than two or three men? I suspect that fitness levels aside, the biggest reason that the ape is so strong is that nobody ever told him that he wasn’t. The monkey believes it, and so he is. History is full of examples of men whose power of belief was so strong that it allowed them to accomplish truly amazing things. The power lies within you to do the same. Draw on this incredible resource.

After “R” comes “W” and this is a tough one: “Write Down Your Goals and Commit to Them”. Write a contract with yourself that starts with the words: “I will….”. Be serious about your journey. Having a goal without an internal commitment to reaching it is a waste of time. It is a moral sin against yourself and your future to commit to something and fail to do it.

“A” is simple: “Act on Your Commitment”. Commitment minus action equals zero. Although a stationary rock has lots of potential energy due to its mass, it is wasted potential until you get it moving… and then you really have something because that movement translates into inertia and seemingly energy is created out of thin air!!! Get Moving!

Finally, “Y” is “Yield to Nothing”. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. Don’t let life, friends, enemies, or the world in general slow you down. Don’t take no for answer, make lemonade from lemons, and turn disasters into opportunities. Be the irresistable force.

The virtual stairway that you create in your life by following these principles will serve you well in your quest for success. Each step is a process in itself, but it cannot be shortcut. It is impossible to have one step without the others before it. If you want to win bad enough, get out the nails and hammers and start building it today!

He does so by using his powers to appoint anyone to any post he chooses while Congress is in recess. Two other appointees were also appointed in this manner, one of which had actually been held up by a Democratic Senator (Sherrod Brown) who had some issues with the appointee’s past business dealings. While normally reserved for emergency situations, Obama misuses his executive powers once again. I bet he wanted to play King Henry VIII in the school play too.

Victoria Jackson is a comedienne, singer and actress. That means she lives in the land of fruits and nuts… entertainment la-la land that is populated by the most liberal group of ninnies on the planet. And lots of them would be her potential employers. As a general rule, at least acting liberal is a good idea if you want to keep eating. Backing Sarah Palin is suicidal. And brave. And Patriotic. Victoria is vocal about her views regarding our country, and its current president as well as her support for Sarah Palin. For that, she is my pick for The Patriot of the Day.

Today we find Obama pushing Cap & Trade legislation and calling it the new economic foundation of our country. Let’s explore that for a minute with an ear bent toward echoes of his promises before his first day in office. Obama promised to “fundamentally change” America. His first year in office has truly been evidence of that with massive government power grabs, a takeover of the healthcare system, seizure of automakers, and deficits never seen before. When he said “fundamental” he meant it. In fact, that kind of talk suggests changes at the level of our country’s roots; something akin to altering even our DNA.

The results of this kind of change have struck fear into the hearts of Americans in all political parties, and well it should. So today when Obama says that climate change legislation will become the new economic foundation for our country, you might better listen. As if the old foundation is bad, the new one promises what? To understand what the new foundation really provides, you have to understand the basics of Cap & Trade, and the business of the trade and sale of carbon credits. So I attempt here to explain in a simple way how this works and what the real effect is on each of us.

The government has declared, by using flawed science, that the earth is warming because of what humans are doing. It is our fault. And it is the fault of industry, and power companies, and car companies, and cows and, and, and,… it seems today that everything has the ability to place a “carbon footprint” on the environment. This makes sense, as everything on this planet is carbon-based, even humans. Once this governmental decree is accepted, as it was mandated by the Kyoto Protocols, the government then must empower itself to set limits on carbon (or greenhouse gas) output. Each country has a benchmark figure as a goal, and the country is then responsible to police its citizens and industry to be sure that these goals are met. The way that industry is motivated is more like a stick than a carrot. To put it simply, if a power plant or any other carbon-producing structure is putting out more carbon than is allowable, under arbitrary government regulation, the government is free to fine that facility or company for its violation of “green regulations”. Conversely, if a facility is meeting or beating benchmark figures there is a carrot; Tradeable carbon credits are issued to that company that are redeemable for cash from anyone that needs them.

Who might need the credits? Some company that must either purchase credits from a company or country that is more green or pay a hefty fine. Thus, we punish the offenders, and reward those that are greening up the planet. It sounds pretty nice. The problem is that America will have almost zero immediate success at meeting these emissions goals. However, undeveloped third world nations which have constructed “green” facilities, power plants, wind farms, biomass facilities and other “renewable” energy sources will easily meet these goals. It really doesnt matter to them that these technologies are still in development, and are largely inefficient. Neither does it matter that these technologies are immensely expensive to develop. Why? Because the leaders of these places know that they won’t pay for these projects. Who will then? We will.

American companies and individuals will be forced to pay heavy fines or buy, with cash, carbon credits from these undeveloped nations to offset their “dirty” energy production. These additional costs will be passed on to consumers.. American consumers in the form of higher energy costs.

The real goal of all of this is socialism on a global scale. Heavily developed societies such as ours will be forced by our own governments to redistribute our income and our wealth to undeveloped places in financial terms that are mind boggling. Is Cap & Trade good for us? No it is not. Does it produce less carbon and greenhouse gasses? No, it just costs us more to buy what we have been buying.

So why do it? Ask the globalists, I am sure they have an answer that has a lot to do with their own piggybanks and less to do with the betterment of humankind. What is the new economic foundation? Clearly the foundation rests on backs of Americans to the benefit of the rest of the world. It is a withering punishment for our accomplishments and achievements as a nation. What a foundation that is, no?

Scientists at our national labs and experts from academia and other oil companies have also provided ideas and advice. As a result of these efforts, we’ve directed BP to mobilize additional equipment and technology. And in the coming weeks and days, these efforts should capture up to 90 percent of the oil leaking out of the well. This is in direct contrast to what has been reported when BP was working on ideas and trying various strategies to stop the leak which met with varying degrees of failure. I guess Obama stood off from a distant golf course and yelled instructions to BP while refusing to meet with the CEO of BP and those instructions sounded something like this: “Hey you guys! The first outright fabrication is the idea that the reason we are drilling deep is that there is nothing left that is shallow. Nothing could be further from the truth. Shallow drilling is not allowed because of numerous environmental complaints. And must we again say this acronym? ANWR. Why not drill in ANWR. A blowout like the one in the gulf would have been solved in hours, not months. The area that is proposed for drilling there is about the same size as the airport near your home.. a few hundred acres. We are running out places because environmental crazies work tirelessly to limit those places, not because there is no oil there. Most scientists agree today that oil production is also a deep earth process which makes it not finite. The decayed dinosaur theory doesn’t hold water.

It is clear that we must develop ways to reduce our dependence on oil, and particularly foreign oil. We involve ourselves all over the Middle East to protect the supply and manage the price of Arab oil. This is not sustainable and subjects us to many dangers in itself both here and abroad. We are hostage to energy costs. However, we have many existing technologies that can help with this problem in the short run while we develop truly efficient technologies to produce “green” and “renewable” energy sources. Nuclear energy works. It can be utilized safely, and frankly we have a huge amount of already-processed nuclear materials for power generation. Natural gas is very clean compared to coal and is a step in the right direction. We cannot make this conversion process overnight as the rest of the world supposes.

Too much infrastructure exists based on the old to scrap, and we require much energy as a nation to operate. It is a practical reality.

Most have heard the story about how if you were to put a frog in a pan of water and slowly increase the heat that the frog would sit there and take it until the water boiled. Once that happened the frog would have long since lost the capacity to escape. Supposedly the amphibian accepts the small temperature changes and really doesn’t sense the danger until it is too late. Seriously I wonder if that has ever been tried, but I know one thing for sure: Conservative Americans are definitely “the frog” and the “water” is certainly getting progressively hotter. It is time for some ice in the water.

Progressives like their name because that is what they do: they progressively change the norm until a time will come that we don’t even remember what the “norm” was. Any real student of history since the early 1900s will see the effect that progressive policies have had on Americans and American culture. We have moved ever so closely year after year towards a more socialist society. In the name of security we have given up so much. We accept the lies of politicians in an offhand way knowing that they are instinctively liars and we have become too lazy to hold them accountable. The promises of our leaders are routinely forgotten by them as soon as they no longer need our votes. Taxes have been progressively raised and are applied in a marxist-progressive system designed to prevent the rise of the aristocracy. At least that is what they tell us blatantly. Quietly they know that we will soon forget what they are doing until, like the frog in boiling water, it is too late.

For these many decades liberals have convinced us that government knows best, is best designed to provide our retirement, healthcare, schools, and a myriad number of other things until such time that we are overwhelmed with government. Obama complains that the Constitution is a document of negative liberties. It does a good job of telling government what it cannot do, yet doesn’t do much in the way of telling us what government ought to do. There is a reason for this. Our founders knew that government the size of the present monstrosity would be tyrannical in nature. Although communist philosophy was not something that was regularly contemplated, man’s desire to enslave other men by government and religion was an accepted fact. As such, the Constitution limited the ability of government and men to accomplish this and provided a legal means by which we could challenge overreaching authority of government.

Over time we have lost perspective and understanding of this powerful truth: government derives its power from the governed, not the other way around. The progressive work of radicals both inside and outside of government can be resisted legally and peacefully. This will not, however, be true forever. Already too long we have sat placidly in a pot of water while the temperature climbed to uncomfortable levels. Progressives know this to be true too.

This brings me to Obama. Liberals and radicals have patiently worked for decades to achieve their goals from without and within. Saul Alinsky preached to his followers that it was necessary to work from within the machine until such time that they would be able to topple it, and fundamentally change America.

Even as Europe founders financially liberals espouse the wonders of the European system. Why? Because they know that they must stay the course to convert this capitalist society to a socialist one. In 2008 radicals worldwide rejoiced over the election of Barack Hussein Obama. Through him they felt and continue to feel that he would usher in unprecedented, fundamental change. That is what he promised during his candidacy. People ignored this kind of talk, but it is wise to remember that he is a lawyer. Words mean a lot to him. When he said “fundamental” he was being accurate. Change from the ground up.

When something is fundamentally changed it means a rework of its DNA. The foundations must be altered. Once changed, it will look nothing like what it was before. The result: Economic justice, income redistribution, socialized medicine, amnesty for illegal aliens, and a complete alteration of how our country works with the rest of the world. After decades of patient plodding it was time for progressives to play their hand; to make massive changes to the America that so many died to protect.

Our schools have been full of liberal ideology for a long time. Today a full 1/3 of young adults under the age of thirty think that socialism is preferable to capitalism. 1/3 strongly disagree. What about the other 1/3? They are undecided. This is our battleground. Daily we now see the attempts at massive change. We also know it will cost us our freedom. Not today, but in not so many years away because economically this capitalist society cannot function as a socialist one as well. The water is getting hotter and hotter. It is time now to end all of this “change” before we lose the ability to stop it.

My nine year old daughter came home yesterday with a stark reminder as to why we have to fight today’s educators as hard as we fight the politicians. It seemed that the teacher was intent on giving them a taste of next year’s history lessons and touched on the Civil War. Oh boy, one of my favorites. I asked her what the cause of the war was and she replied simply “slavery”. I know that there is no way that teachers are going to get into tariffs, protection of white labor, John Brown, or the slave revolts in Haiti with 4th or 5th graders. However you have to start somewhere providing more than just the politically correct answer and leaving it at that.

The dilemma is simple and it is being illustrated even as I write in the state of Texas where the state School Board is dueling with both hyper-liberal and hyper-conservative elements of their society over what their new textbooks will and will not contain. To put it simply: if we only give part of the story, or none of the story at all, then how can we learn from the past? We have all heard the saying “history ignored dooms us to repeat it”. So what do we say about history revised? Some of the smartest and wisest men this country has ever seen all agree that a study of history provides us with accurate clues with which to predict the future, particularly in the behavior of people. A good example is in our war colleges and military institutes. Courses upon courses deal with the military campaigns of Ghengis Kahn, George Patton, Napoleon, and Robert E. Lee. Why? Because in studying the actions taken by these men in the heat of battle we learn how people react, how they succeed, and even how they fail in endeavors great and small. We learn about their motivations, bravery, inspirations, prejuidices, strengths, weaknesses and even sometimes their cowardice. These studies are valuable and more importantly, they are accurate.

In the society of the world today educators are more inclined to teach what is politically correct or what suits their own political leaning. They revise history according to their politics and the politics of the group within which they exist. In revising history they steal from themselves and their students valuable lessons that otherwise might be helpful in the future. Regarding studies of the Civil War for example, it is an easy whitewash to label the cause “slavery”. It was however much more complex than that. The agrarian south was also being taxed to death by tariffs designed to balance northern labor costs (white people) against the perceived economic advantages of the southern slave owners. Slavery had to be abolished for a number of reasons including making sure that as new territories were added to the growing country they were slave-free, thus keeping wages up for whites in these areas. After the war, whites in the north envisioned expatriation of freed slaves, and evidence of this can be even found in old copies of “Harpers” newspapers still preserved for reading on a number of internet websites. You won’t find much of this in textbooks on the Civil War. You won’t find that Lincoln stated that his goal was not the protection or the abolition of slavery, only the protection of the Union. Slavery was a horrible and detestable practice but so much of the education revised for publication today ignores important facts that once obscured guaranteed a nation still divided on this very issue, even until today. This however, serves the political interests of the revisionists.

Thomas Jefferson once said ““He who knows nothing is closer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors”. The falsehoods and errors created by historical revisionism have created two or three generations of Americans who don’t know all of the truth, and frankly to their own demise, couldn’t care less.

Let’s teach the truth, all the truth, the WHOLE truth.. so help us God.
