As I’ve said, I disagree with that recommendation strongly. It has been tried for years on George W. Bush and didn’t work, and won’t on Obama.

The lefty kool aid must have some seeing & hearing things.

The Left tried with earnest to make this a character issue about GW, and it was useless.

The same will happen with this line of attack on Obama.

It is already appearing that McCain is a little, unhinged, petty, angry man who has nothing to offer the country. Obama’s positives are coming down, but how much will McCain’s negatives go by using this scorched earth strategy? That might be the central early question of the campaign

I don’t think the ad even hints at an ego problem. The Britney/Paris comparison suggests that a popular person is not necessarily someone you want running the country.

So, roth, it ain’t just us. His ego is so big that even his bestest friends see it.

GW as “arrogant” has been a constant meme of the Left for the past 8 years, and it just doesn’t stick.

The reason it doesn’t stick is based on two reasons:

• There is a very THIN line between arrogance and confidence; hubris and leadership. One man’s strong and confident leader is another man’s foolhardy egotist.

Arrogance is just such a subjective notion and is purely in the eye of the beholder. So the only people who buy into the idea are the ones who are already predisposed to dislike that candidate.

Do people on the Right perceive Obama as “arrogant? Sure. But they’re already predisposed to not liking him. Do millions on the Left view George W. Bush as “arrogant”? Yup, they sure do. But they already don’t like him.

• It is very difficult to call someone “arrogant” without sounding like you’re whining. Wahhh, he’s arrogant. He thinks he’s sooo great. It just sounds like high school stuff.

McCain should be attacking Obama on substance and judgement. Not this vague, echo chamber-y stuff about him being arrogant and presumptuous and full of ego.
