Brady Campaign Commercial from Bill Brady on Vimeo.
Now, anyone who’s seen any of my postings on the Illinois Governor’s race would know I’m a rabid Brady supporter. But this commercial doesn’t impress me. I’d like to know everyone else’s opinion or impressions of the commercial. Constructive criticism appreciated. I want to know what “message” you hear from Brady in this.
Maybe it’s just me and I didn’t have enough coffee yet.

Watched it 3 times, Brian. Wanted to be sure....
penguin2 (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 7:58AM EST (link)Haven’t had my coffee yet either.
1) too cluttered and confusing? Fast visuals keep a person from being focused on the words.
2) jumps from the people hurting, then big government, then taxes – kind of too many messages in there at once, without making clear the connection and his point.
3) and then throws in term limits.
As I said, haven’t had my coffee, but what I saw was there was no good take away from the 60sec spot. Nothing stuck in my mind. (No jokes please.)

Thanks for confirming Penguin.
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 8:03AM EST (link)What I left the ad with was “Term and contribution limits”. Illinois has a budget mess right now with a Governor who’s only solution is a 33% tax rate increase. I don’t really CARE about term and contribution limits at least not when most politician say the same thing. I assume some survey showed that as a hot button issue.

This is not good... but not fatal either.
acat (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 10:37AM EST (link)The “folksy” music is aggravating to my ear, the color scheme for the graphics is annoying to my eyes, and it tries to put too much into a single spot… This may “play in Peoria”, but it’s not what the collar counties are used to seeing from Cook County Board President candidates, let alone Governor….
The calculation in Illinois is “win two out of three”, the pieces being “downstate”, “collar counties”, and “Chicago”. If this ad is an example, then maybe “playing in Peoria”, i.e. getting his name and plan out for the “downstate” markets, is the goal.
This may be a year when a few fumbles are okay. Obama isn’t running so can’t help, and Gianoulias (Sen. D candidate) likely won’t have coat-tails. Quinn is governor by default not election – being Blago’s # 2 he took the top slot when Rod was forced out. The Dems are going to have a harder time – right now – of motivating their base (outside Chicago) than the Repubs will…
Summing up – it’s a bad ad in a good year, and I hope Brady’s team figure it out fast.

This doesn't "Play in Peoria"
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Monday, May 17th at 4:17PM EST (link)I’m in Peoria and I think it’s a weak ad.
As I understand it, this ad is targeted at the Chicago market.
I’ve sent feedback to the campaign, but of course had no answer. I hope they DO take constructive criticism.

ktsub (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 10:43AM EST (link)I watched it, I thought it was good intro, I came away with he has LOTS of ideas. Which is good, all I would agree with. Even with the dig at Quinn, it came across as positive clip.
Also, watched it with just SOUND, it makes for a better radio ad. Good radio, lots of quick ideas, the visuals do make for “clutter”, trying to figure out what is going on.
Two impressions, Pre- and Post- coffee
redneck_hippie (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 11:11AM EST (link)Pre- Both music which drowns out the speech and clashing orange-color graphics grated on my nerves. Does not appear polished or professional. The music is too loud and will not impress upstate counties. Why not use an all American theme. Lower and upscale the music and do not use orange for goodness sake!
Post- It’s not just the intrusive music that over-rides the message, there is not cohesion. I like ads that make an overarching point and compares and contrasts the candidates on that one point.
Raising taxes and low economic growth/unemployment:
Quin: For it
Brady: Agin it.
This commercial tries to do too much. Why not do a 30 sec. “this is who I am and what my values are” commercial, and then a different 30 sec. “this is the choice of visions” ad.
I’m solidly behind Brady and even Kirk-by-default. Our brethren desperately fighting for House seats upstate need coattails in Illinois. I don’t think a Proft-esque ad could work for Brady, but neither will a Huckabee-esque ad pull in upstate votes.
Brady isn’t able to run against Obama/Reid/Pelosi, but he is running against Quinn and the combine establishment. I’m fine with him sitting on a hay bale, but please don’t subject me to a sound track from Hee-Haw and a copy of Home Depot graphics.
Thanks so much for asking! I don’t have tv, so wouldn’t have seen the ad otherwise.
Production values aside, the ad will be nice for all but the metropolitan areas. It is just too busy.
Speaking of coattails, Brady & Plummer
redneck_hippie (Diary) Friday, May 14th at 5:41PM EST (link)are coming to Joel Pollak’s campaign rally this Sunday. Nice.
Joel's campaign called me to attend.
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Monday, May 17th at 4:29PM EST (link)A lady spoke to my wife and couldn’t figure out why someone so far was on the campaign’s supporter list.
But it was a bit far to drive after church and still make a 1:00PM rally so I couldn’t do it.
How did it go?
