The President is headed to Bristol, Virginia today, to appear at a Kroger’s grocery store to push his health care overhaul. The purpose of the visit is to put a little more pressure on Virginia Senators Warner and Webb, as well as local Congressman Rick Boucher, none of whom is currently supporting Obamacare. According to CNN however, there seem to be as many Obamacare skeptics as supporters at the store:
Workers are rolling out the red carpet for the president at a Kroger grocery store in rural Virginia, but President Obama could get a chilly reception when he appears Wednesday for a town hall meeting on health care.
Frozen food clerk Phil Younce says he thinks health care reform is being rushed.
“Like the last package that we pushed through, I think it was too hurried, and a lot of mistakes, a lot of things that shouldn’t be,” said Younce, who voted for Republican candidate John McCain in the presidential election…
But like most employees at the Kroger supermarket, produce manager Steve Shipplett gets generous health benefits.Even though he voted for Obama, he’s nervous those benefits may be taxed to cover the uninsured, and he’s demanding more specifics from the president.
“He’s going to have to spit out some numbers and let the public know exactly what it’s going to cost them and what they’re going to have to give up,” he said.
Will skeptical employees get equal time?
The New York Times also asks a good question: why isn’t Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds willing to be seen with the President? My liberal friends keep telling me Obama is really popular.

Well, Mr. Shipplett, you got the president you deserve.
I can't believe he is even going to Bristol VA
Scope (Diary) Wednesday, July 29th at 1:44PM EST (link)It is very rural VA, was a manufacturing area, and in the area where they just built a coal fired power plant. There is a small amount of coal mining there also. If he had much of any support there he would have had to bus them in, which we all know he does. I believe it is also in NASCAR territory, and they are not Obama supporters. The southwest corner of Virginia is not NOVA which is where Democrats always win. Unless things have really changed, he is not in friendly territory.
Thanks for the info on Warner
abbynormal Wednesday, July 29th at 2:42PM EST (link)Until I read it here, I didn’t know where he stood on Obamacare. His web page is less than helpful, and he has yet to answer any of the over 400 questions on his Google Moderator page. So, thanks for telling us he is not a supporter of Obamacare, but I don’t plan to let up on him till this thing is completely dead.
According to www.pilotonline,com, Obama will be hosting a public rally for Deeds on Aug 6 at the McLean Hilton, and a private fundraiser to help Deeds “get the Democratic pary’s African-American base enthused”. It is strange that Deeds isn’t accompanying the man he hopes will “turn out the black vote” for him. Maybe he wasn’t even invited?
Well McConnell should ask Deeds why he is not campaigning..
JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, July 29th at 2:47PM EST (link)with the Democrat party’s standard bearer! and I too have been told The One is popular but I guess Deed’s knows what the rest of us do…he sucks!

And I should be putting the roof on my new shed,
Achance (Diary) Wednesday, July 29th at 3:10PM EST (link)but this isn’t nearly as hard! Man, it’s been forty years since I worked on my hands and knees sheathing a roof fifteen feet or so in the air. And at my age, broken bones take a long time to heal.
If you ever get tempted to buy one of those cedar sheds that Home Depot sells and that look Sooo nice at the store, understand, it is not a kit; it is a bundle of pre-cut lumber that if you know a little something about carpentry you can turn into one of those sheds.
So, by evening I will be a Republican knuckle-dragger because my aging legs will be so tired from climbing a ladder and working on my knees that I won’t be able to stand upright and my knuckles will be dragging because my arms will be so tired from handling a heavy nail gun and a hammer that they’ll just hang by my sides.
OK, I feel better now that I wrote that and have had a little break. I’d best get back to the manual labor before SWMBO starts looking for me.
