you nailed that perfectly, and Brian is also right --- the Blue-Dog thing is all a myth: Red-Dogs, RINOs, CINOs, DINOs, PLINOs, and Blue-Dogs, oh my... The Political Zoo - what/who are they? The Blue-Dog Myth is covered in there.

They are Show Ponies now. They trot out, get a little attention from the public/press and then go back to their stalls. They no longer vote in block and there just don't seem to be any fiscal conserrvative democrats save the three mentioned. There is no effort to moderate the radical agenda of the Dems. After what we have seen happen in the last eight months I do not expect any of these folks to change.

Is anyone tracking the opponent plans against the "pale" Blue Dogs in 2010? Everyone of them should have a competent well funded opponent ready to go after them on every one of their votes. I can't understand how any conservative district will vote for the congressman who supported:

TARP
Stimulus
$1.8 trillion dollar deficit
$3.6 trillion 2010 budget

Future votes or support:
Liberal Supreme court nominees
Cap and Trade
Nationalized Health care.

Any conservative who shows them no mercy should be able to keep them apologizing and running from Obama for the entire election cycle. My bet is by the end of the August recess, these guys will have been so abused back home by tea parties, etc. that the fall session will have them all walking themselves back from the cliff of extreme left. There could be 30 + seats that go back to the 2004 party status if we do this right.

They’ll still have to answer for TARP, and the nationalization of banks and auto companies. But perhaps they’ll draw the line at government-run health care. Still, I’ll believe it when I see it.

...or saving face IMO. When democrats start talking like this to other democrats, I read it to mean these guys don't feel their being thrown enough bones for their support of the legislation.

I'm of the opinion this is about "pay for play." Democrats, by and large, are more interested in getting their hand on more power and money, and their "agendas" are usually nothing more than a means to that end. None of these people really care about health care for John Q Public. They care about filtering millions and billions through their fingers for their own purposes, something nationalized health care is sure to bring about.

If these "blue dogs" are making noises, its more than likely its because they expect a better payout in terms of money and power than any sense of responsibility to the nation or their constituents back home.

I expect most of them will jump on board national health care just like they did with TARP and these other massive bailouts and budgets once they are promised and/or given enough of the pie for themselves.

like Taylor, Minnick and I guess Shuler. But the majority of these guys talk big until it's time to vote and then cave. Both Boren and Jim Cooper talked about how bad the stimulus was in multiple interviews and then voted for it.

Locally, I think Heath Shuler (D-NC) voted against the Stimulus and the Budget. Maybe he's not perfect, but that isn't how a "gutless coward" votes.

These "Blue Dogs" had the power to stop the stimulus in the House and caved. They cave the the Democratic leadership on every major issue and I expect them to do the same on healthcare. They could be the most powerful bloc in DC, but they choose to be gutless cowards.
