Colorado is likely to be home to several competitive races in 2010: notably Senator Michael Bennet’s first re-election run, two Democrat-held House seats, and hopefully Governor Ritter’s re-election bid. With that in mind, it’s encouraging to see early signs of disaffection with President Obama:
Barack Obama and Mark Udall each won their elections in Colorado last year by pretty solid margins, but Public Policy Polling’s first look at their approval numbers since taking office finds relatively weak numbers for them in the state.
Obama receives approval from 49% of voters with 45% dissenting. For Udall it’s just 41% approval and 46% disapproving.
For each that’s a much smaller swath of the electorate approving of their job performance than voted for them last fall, and it looks like a lot of that may have to do with their standing among independent voters.
An average of PPP’s final three Colorado polls last year found Obama and Udall both doing spectacularly well among independent voters. Obama had a 24 point lead with them and Udall led by 27. But now only 48% of independents approve of what the President is doing with 47% disapproving and for Udall the spread is negative at 41/48.
The midterms are a long way off, but numbers like this will aid both in candidate recruitment and early fundraising. In a formerly red state that has trended blue, we’ll need both.

Colorado, Rise!
zonablue Wednesday, April 22nd at 11:27AM EST (link)People of Colorado, rise up and throw off the chains of the repressive Obamanista Regime. They fooled you once, so shame of them.
If they fool you twice, then shame on you.
Take the sovereignty of the State of Colorado back in 2010 and throw off the shackles of the Facist policies of the Obamanistas.
Colorado is full of oil, as are many other areas of the United States. Pass legislation locally to stop the Global Warming hoax.
Take back your freedom, drill your oil, build refineries. Remain independent.
Say “NO” the the attempts to nationalize your state and “NO” to the policies of the Washingtonian Beltway.

Ritter and his minions are hurting them.
NightTwister (Diary) Wednesday, April 22nd at 11:36AM EST (link)As is the democrat-controlled legislature. I could write a book here about the shenanigans being played out regarding tax and fees increases. Unemployment continues to rise here, as do the number of foreclosures. We weathered the storm early, but it’s coming home to roost now.
The Dems control both houses. Ritter has been playing fast and loose with the State Constitution with the State Supreme Court being willing accomplices. His mill levy freeze was clearly unconstitutional, but the Supremes ruled it wasn’t. The dems in the legislature are now acting like a pack of ravenous wolves looking for revenue anywhere they can while at the same time trying to remove a General Fund spending increase limit. Tax exemptions are next on the list, so people will now be taxed on everything, causing prices to increase even more.
This is after they added some new draconian regulations on new natural gas pipelines which is going to put a significant number of people out of work in Eastern Colorado. None of the new green jobs have materialized yet, nor are they likely to anytime soon.
If it’s any indication of the level of frustration, there were between 2,000 and 3,000 people at the Fort Collins Tea Party, which for a city of just over 100,000, that’s pretty significant. There are so many people lining up to run against Betsy Markey in CD-4 that there’s actually a facebook group called, “I’m NOT running for CD-4 in 2010″.
Bill Ritter only raised slighly over $100,000 in the last quarter for his reelection campaign. It’s getting harder and harder to find anyone that still supports him. Unfortunately, a lot of damage will be done before we can run them out.
