One look at the deficit projections below shows you that the House GOP budget will be superior to Barack Obama’s. Obama has no plan to bring the national debt under control until… well, ever. His plan is for the federal debt to skyrocket off the chart, with no attempt ever made to get it back under control. It’s a plan for hyperinflation and eventual collapse of the currency. It is unsustainable.
How bad is Obama’s budget? Note that Ryan is showing an unusual chart; this is publicly-held debt as a percentage of GDP, from 1940-2080. In budget debates policymakers typically focus on the shorter term: what the numbers look like over the next 5-10 years.
According to Ryan’s chart, publicly-held debt as a percentage of GDP increases slowly under the GOP plan until about 2050 and does not return to the current level until after 2070. Even this seemingly modest achievement is far, far better than Obama’s blueprint. If Ryan and the House Republicans can’t produce a budget that goes to balance for decades, it is because Obama has so wrecked the nation’s finances that he is content to allow deficits and debt to skyrocket until the children of today have grown old and died.

"Tomorrow, when we introduce our Republican budget."
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 4:30PM EST (link)When was this recorded? Is this suggesting they’re going to flesh out the outline and release it tomorrow?
I like the outline, but I want some numbers.

Taking into consideration a chart is not a budget
candoo2 (dkos funluvn1) (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 4:33PM EST (link)we are not putting forth anything that is substantial once again. This supposed budget is more talk and charts instead of a plan that we need to put forth to oppose the Obama budget.
Seriously, how long can our guys continue to not do anything more than complain about the Obama budget and then put forth a simplistic non-informative bunch of yap about how we go forward as a country instead of hitting the nail on the head and telling everyone how conservatives and their principles always win the day over liberal inconsistancies?
Color me once again, unimpressed.
I make crude sexual jokes about conservatives.
To clarify, this was from today...
Brian Faughnan (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 4:45PM EST (link)And GOPers will put out all the numbers tomorrow. At least, that’s what we’re told. While last week’s press conference was a black eye, we ought to have all relevant details within 24 hours.
If we see more spin and less information
candoo2 (dkos funluvn1) (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 5:06PM EST (link)once again, I hope we will say so here. I’m tired of spin. I’m tired of silly attempts to cause the base to get all fired up, when the base see’s only half attempts to do something that makes a difference.
I make crude sexual jokes about conservatives.
yea, right
Kyle-MI (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 6:12PM EST (link)It is not like the other side gave any details until they had full control of the government. What does the GOP budget mean anyhow? It is not as if any of this is going to be implemented by the Dems in power.
Simplicio
Simplicio Tuesday, March 31st at 8:06PM EST (link)That chart isn’t exactly giving me a lot of hope we’ll see something substantiative. The Obama budget line just looks like they used the CBO estimate out a decade or two and then drew a meaningless exponential curve to say “and then debt gets really big’! And projecting out to 2080 is pretty meaningless anyways, I’m pretty skeptical that Obama’s budget has anything meaningful to say about the tax rate in the year 2075.
Thanks for the clarification. But maybe a delay until tomorrow would be better.

Why is ANY growth in the national debt acceptable?
MacAoidh (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 5:20PM EST (link)Perhaps I’m being unrealistic, but this looks like a very timid agenda that simply does not provide adequate differentiation between the GOP and the collectivists on the other side.
You’re not going to energize the conservative base without proposing a real change in direction. Ryan and his compatriots need to scrap that Beltway mentality whereby the Democrats drive us headlong into tyranny and the Republicans merely halfheartedly try to apply the brakes.
Make real cuts. Eliminate and wind down entitlement programs. Devolve power to the states where it belongs. That’s how you win back your base, and it’s also how you can govern effectively.
