Hold the Phone: Dodd’s WIFE Was Paid by AIG?

She Served on the Board of an AIG Property... Based in Bermuda

Senator Dodd, there’s been a lot of attention recently to your relationship with AIG. You’re the top Congressional recipient of their political donations, they have a major presence in your state, and you sponsored a provision that allowed them to deliver bonuses to many of your constituents. And yet even as you’ve sworn up and down that you never wanted to protect AIG, and you have no reason to wish to do so, we learn that your wife served on the board of – and was compensated by – an AIG subsidiary?

From 2001-2004, Jackie Clegg Dodd served as an “outside” director of IPC Holdings, Ltd., a Bermuda-based company controlled by AIG. IPC, which provides property casualty catastrophe insurance coverage, was formed in 1993 and currently has a market cap of $1.4 billion and trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol IPCR. In 2001, in addition to a public offering of 15 million shares of stock that raised $380 million, IPC raised more than $109 million through a simultaneous private placement sale of 5.6 million shares of stock to AIG – giving AIG a 20% stake in IPC. (AIG sold its 13.397 million shares in IPC in August, 2006.)

Clegg was compensated for her duties to the company, which was managed by a subsidiary of AIG. In 2003, according to a proxy statement, Clegg received $12,000 per year and an additional $1,000 for each Directors’ and committee meeting she attended. Clegg served on the Audit and Investment committees during her final year on the board.

IPC paid millions each year to other AIG-related companies for administrative and other services. Clegg was a diligent director. In 2003, the proxy statement report, she attended more than 75% of board and committee meetings. This while she served as the managing partner of Clegg International Consultants, LLC, which she created in 2001, the year she joined the board of IPC. (See Dodd’s public financial disclosure reports with the Senate from 2001-2004 here.)

Can you explain this Senator? Surely the voters of Connecticut deserve to know that the story of your close relationship with AIG goes beyond merely being the company’s favorite Member of Congress? Or is this something you forgot about as well?

It might be time to update the website, Ned. You couldn’t beat Joe Lieberman, but maybe you can be his Junior Senator.

With All These Shoes Dropping, Dodd Won't Run for Reelection

IJB Tuesday, March 24th at 1:37PM EST (link)

That’s my prediction. You heard it here first.

Of course, if Dodd doesn’t run, the Democrats odds of holding on to his CT Senate seat go up nearly astronomically.

(Which, of course, why Dodd’ll be politely “asked” by Schumer and the goons to retire to that nice little Irish “cottage” of his…)

Agreed

He is TOAST

He will be gone before September. They will replace him with a better candidate to fill the seat and run for re-election to try to hold the seat. I doubt they will hold it though. Dodd’s constituents are ticked off at this point.

He will run. You underestimate his ego.

But where's the outrage?

chaney (Diary) Tuesday, March 24th at 2:15PM EST (link)

Quick! You get the pitchforks. I’ll get the torches. Whose got the Dodds’s address. Someone call Barney Frank, so he can threaten them with subpoenas. C’mon, let’s go! Move! Move! Move!

There will be outrage

Steph C (Diary) Tuesday, March 24th at 2:46PM EST (link)

Then, after the “fifteen minutes” are up, those outraged folks will shrug their shoulders and go back to watching American Idol or something else equally lame.

IOW, nothing will change.

Democrats Aren't Going To Lose His Senate Seat

DavidSage (Diary) Tuesday, March 24th at 2:35PM EST (link)

Just like with Toricelli in NJ, they’ll make sure they don’t lose a Senate seat in a deep blue state like CT. Dodd will be muscled out of that seat and replaced a milquetoast Democrat that will easily win in 2010.

Democrats are so much better at getting rid of dead weight than Republicans are, they don’t ask them to step down, they force them out. Our party, in comparison, would let someone run for reelection from a prison cell.

Time to fit Dodd...

For an orange jumpsuit.

Like father, like son.

“Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. … including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy”

Damn right: incest, nepotism, and cronyism!

I love it! Dodd’s wife gets paid and he goes buck wild on AIG during his kangaroo court. What a joke. What a joke these fools are making of our country.

Thank you Redstate contributors for bringing this detestable deviancy to light. Don’t give up! Never give up! Believe that what you are doing is having an impact. If nothing else we are providing the intellectual ammunition we need to fight these criminals one piece at a time.

For every sin that is exposed 100 go unknown hidden in the dark, dank, depths of these sociopath’s cities, basements and minds. This web of deception which people like Chris Dodd believe provide him with plausible denyability will be his undoing. These freaks think that because the MSM will not question their misdeeds – hey it was a subsidiary, off shore in the Bahama’s, that is out of business, and she did some legitimate work (sipping Chardonnay). What a joke! These people have become their own punchline – they’ve pulled the wool over their own eyes because they think they can get away with this scam. But we’ve caught them, and we will bring them to justice – tried right here by a hury of their peers.

Reality’s Sylogism. Unflappable, Unashamed, Unabashed, Unapologetic.

we’re kinda trying to keep the profanity down. We’re absolutely intolerant of certain words, but the damns, hells, asses, and bastards are tolerated – and in fact some of the editors use them. I’ve been known myself to imbibe, as far as that goes, though I’m a reformed man when it comes to that.

But still, we’re trying to keep it to a minimum. Especially in subject lines. Just sayin’.

Not right away, but there is so, so much turning up just with this one loser – the sweetheart loans, the comically pot-kettle escapades during committee hearings, and now this prosecutable item.

There’s more in that rotting, smelly fungal mess underneath the rock that Chris Dodd comes from. He’s gonna go to prison for something.

Here's to Nepotism

GreyCloak (Diary) Wednesday, March 25th at 6:08AM EST (link)

From an IPC 2001 EDGAR filing:

Jackie M. Clegg has been a director since July 2001. In July 2001, Ms. Clegg stepped down as Vice Chairman and First Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., after serving in that role since June 1997. Prior to joining the bank in 1993, she served as staff to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, where she was the principal staff to the Subcommittee on International Finance and Monetary Policy.

From Forbes:

Ms. Clegg also serves on the board of directors and audit committees of Brookdale Senior Living Inc., Cardiome Pharma Corp. and Javelin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (chair). In accordance with the listing standards of the NYSE, Blockbuster’s Board of Directors has determined that Ms. Clegg’s simultaneous service on Blockbuster’s Audit Committee and on the audit committees of the foregoing public companies does not impair Ms. Clegg’s ability to effectively serve on Blockbuster’s Audit Committee. She also serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Note: Blockbuster shares are worth less than a dollar, but Mrs Jackie Clegg Dodd received $146,503.00 from the company in 2007.
