Barack Obama Should Take Some Advice from Jim DeMint

I don’t think that Jim DeMint necessarily has Barack Obama’s political fortunes in mind when he advises him to fire Tim Geithner, but it’s good advice anyway.

In Washington D.C., it’s not hard to predict what usually happens to a politician in Geithner’s place. Several Republicans have called for him to resign; more will. The press will begin to ask many Democrats what they think. Several of them are clearly not far from calling for a resignation as well; one will before long. That will be the signal that Geithner is near the end of the road.

Obama still has a very ambitious agenda that depends on his Treasury Secretary. There’s health care reform, the budget, cap-and-trade, a resolution for GM and Chrysler, and more efforts to stabilize banks. Administration officials are still saying that Congress is likely to need to approve more money for that bailout. That ship has probably already sailed, but at the very least it’s impossible to imagine Geithner getting it approved. The sooner Obama cuts his losses, the better.

Dang...for a minute

i thought DeMint was saying “It’s time for President Obama to leave,” when he was actually saying “It’s time for President Obama to lead.”

Guess i need my hearing checked…

Maybe it's just me, but

if Geithner staying around means that more of Nobama’s “ambitious agenda” is less likely to pass………hang in the Mr Secretary, hang in there tough!!

I agree.

I would rather se a discredited and mortally wounded Geithner than an even more radical communist type at the helm.

I agree too

Rather than focus on one of the many incompetents making up this cabinet, I’d rather the focus be to request less spending, more support for our military and more honesty from the President.

Obama’s America-the paucity of hope

That was in the back of my head as well.

I mean, when does America benefit from an ineffective president, paired with an ineffective Treasury Secretary? ALMOST never.

Except perhaps, for right now.

Absolutely!

I’ll join in calling for Timmy’s resignation when someone can give me a name of a likely replacement who could do better.

It's almost comical

The worst thing about the whole fiasco is that he wasn’t supposed to be only good, he was supposed to be so super-duper good that we all had to just sort of ignore the fact that he was a tax cheat.

You mean that laugh because the only other option is to cry, comical, right?

And, to be completely honest, would almost prefer that Geithner had turned out to be ONLY a tax cheat!!

On one hand you want the scum bag out of their so he stops hurting our country etc, at the same time it’s nice to see the administration getting slammed left and right over Geithner.

I think it will take a lot to get Geithner out. Obama has been taking alot of heat about his vetting and his other pics being scrutinized and having to pull out for various ethical problems, so I’m sure he’d like to keep Geithner there to save himself that much more embarrassment
at another failed selection.

That being said, if Geithner were to resign or be fired, I’d head for downtown and right in the middle of main street I’d do a joyous jig
in celebration.

“…dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people than under the zeal for a firm and efficient government.”
