Why Didn’t Obama Invite Any Health Care Experts to His Health Care Summit?

And Why Did He Keep the List of Participants a Secret Until Today?

Update: It looks like the list of participants is considerably longer than Roll Call reported. Sorry to have steered you wrong. Although I still wonder what half the groups on the linked list have to do with health care!

Roll Call reports on the White House’s list of groups it invited to send a representative to today’s health care summit:

The White House delayed releasing a list of the invitees until just before noon on Thursday, causing confusion and frustration throughout the week in the downtown business community.

The list includes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Chairman Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.).

Also expected to attend today’s event are House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), and Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.)…

Union representatives from the AFL-CIO; the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; the American Federation of Teachers; the Service Employees International Union, and Change to Win made the cut, while the business community’s interests will be overseen by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Business and the National Association of Manufacturers.

Other invitees include representatives from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, General Mills, the Human Rights Campaign, Pfizer, the National Education Association, and AARP.

I can only hope that either the White House released an incomplete list, or that Roll Call screwed up the story. Where’s the American Medical Association? Where are the nurses, the surgeons, the heart association, the Cancer society, the ADA, the Lung Association, the community health care providers, the Catholic Hospitals…?

I don’t mean to suggest that they all needed to be there — at some point you have to draw the line or proceedings become too cumbersome. But the SEIU is there. The AFL-CIO is there. AFSCME is there. Heck, even Planned Parenthood is there! If the White House has room for all of Barack Obama’s loyal stooges, shouldn’t they have room for the people who actually deliver medical care in this country?

Those invited are those who will have a voice in your health care.

So it’s not too surprising, at least to me, that there were no representatives from the Health Care field, per se (I do not count the abortion industry as a legitimate member of the health care field – sorry, Planned Parenthood). Your doctor, nurses, etc. will have no voice. Catholic hospitals and anyone who refuses to perform abortions on demand, no matter how far along the baby is, will be shut down. Glad I can count on Pelosi and Reid and the AFL-CIO to determine what medical care and procedures I’m allowed to have. NOT!!!

Please stop this train to the complete and total destruction of one of the best things the USA has going for it. I hate to hear we need “health care reform” – nothing wrong with the quality of health care in America. What IS wrong is the trial lawyers who have driven up insurance costs by their ambulance-chasing, unethical and outrageous litigation against doctors. Lets fix the REAL problem, and not destroy our best and brightest health care providers in the process!

No!!!11!1!!1!1! The Bilderbergers are coming

Why don't you think he didn't have any experts?

For the same reason why he hired a bunch of Ivy League economic theorists (who would have otherwise been unemployed in the private sector) and didn’t hire any economic advisors who had any practical, moneymaking, money managing experience or success.

In fact, here’s some footage of one of Obama’s economic advisors:

He only has to send them into a room for two hours and voila, a health care plan appears for the “magic negro”. Heeee. won. That’s why.

Incomplete List

The Roll Call list seems to be incomplete. Here’s a much longer list:
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2009/03/obama_convenes_1.html

I see on here:

American Cancer Society
American Diabetes Association
American Heart Association
American Medical Association
Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
Catholic Health Association

…and assorted leftist groups.

Because they have already made up their minds - SOCIALIZED MEDICINE - I am a Registered Nurse and will LEAVE healthcare if implemented!!!

Not any better

So much for “open debate” and hearing “different points of view” and leaving “all options on the table.” The only people on that list are ones who already agree with Obama and his policies, or they expect a generous taxpayer handout. It’s really just a more formal approach to getting a bunch of lobbyists all asking for the same thing. The members of Congress don’t count since they will get to “debate” the bill just as much anyway.

Why should we be surprised not a single group on that long list stands up for protecting human life! But there appear to be plenty of abortion activist groups there. And we wouldn’t want to leave out La Raza. Heaven forbid the illegals don’t get free on-demand access.

This thing reads like a who’s who of the most powerful in the leftist establishment. I suspect “Big Pharma” fit$ in there too. I guess Jack Kevorkian, Tiller the Killer, and NARAL couldn’t make it.

I personally don’t consider the AMA, ANA, or other “establishments” to be trustworthy either and would almost just as soon consult with a tribal healer from the Amazon.

Then we get this gem:

Julia Denton is a 52-year old Republican from Yorktown, Virginia. Her husband is an active duty Air Force dentist with more than 23 years service. Julia currently devotes her time to caretaking and advocacy on behalf of her son Matthew, who was born with a rare genetic disorder resulting in multiple disabilities. Although Julia was a volunteer for the McCain/Palin campaign during the general election, she is now committed to the Obama health plan.

I suspect she is among those who has yet to get over the lightheadedness from the inauguration. I don’t think she realizes what Matthew is in for under an “Obama health plan.”

I'd like to respond...

Julia Denton here, responding to what Menlo wrote about me. No, I never experienced any lightheadedness from the inauguration. I did not even watch it. After all, the candidate I campaigned for LOST, so I was sorely disappointed. (Did you campaign for McCain, Menlo? Or are you among the many conservatives I knew who were unwilling to do the unglamorous work involved, and chose simply to complain?)

Health care reform is a nonpartisan issue for me. I have been grateful for over 23 years of top notch health care provided to my son via a government-run program known as the military health care system. My friends and relatives with private insurance often have not been as lucky.

I suspect Americans who responded to my participation the way Menlo just did are the ones who do not realize what Matthew has been “in for” from many conservative people for the past 23 years. It’s been quite an education for me, and I’ve seen clearly who is fighting hardest for the rights and needs of the already born who, due to their disability, are often ignored, marginalized and treated with contempt by most of society. As a pro-life Christian I have been saddened that so many ardent opponents of abortion don’t seem to care at all about my son and his peers. While I will continue to support the rights of the unborn, my first priority is to speak out for the needs of the millions who are here now, right in front of our faces but disregarded by those who choose to turn their heads away. No worries, Menlo. My eyes are wide open and I continue to see more, at times, than I ever wanted to see. God bless America and especially bless those from both parties who are trying to do the right thing under extremely difficult circumstances.

My experience with TRICARE doesn't match yours.

Uma Richie (Diary) Tuesday, March 10th at 3:57PM EST (link)

My experience with the military health system is the main reason I adamantly oppose single-payer health care.

Is it possible that having a husband working within the military health system allows your family to navigate the bureaucracy better than the rest of us?
