Why the furor to oust this guy? He’s no worse, and possibly better, than most of his partisan colleagues. He, at the very least, was unsuccessful at raising dirty money for a dirty pol…

…which raises the question… how hard did he really try to raise that money for Blago? C’mon… no one was willing to donate money to Blago? In this day and age? In Chicago-land politics? please.

Of course, corruption of any level has no place in politics, but as far as Dems go, this one is darn-near material for canonization.

Then get ready to do a lot of very serious political work to turn this around in ’10.

Considering the general state of both Chicago and Illinois politics and pols, I, personally, am becoming quite fond of Burris. I suspects that he knows what every smart Black politician in this country knows which is that Democrats may love the Black vote, but have very little use for the individual Black person. Reference Obama’s revival of welfare slavery and all the damage it has done to Black families and especially the Black male. Barry doesn’t realize how very lucky he was to have a white grandmother who made substantial sacrifices for his future. Otherwise his juvenile excursions into the drug culture may have made things very different for him.

Outiside of Illinoism, the Deomcrat brand is barely damaged by all this. Larry Craig’s bathroom stall incident did more to harm the Republican brand than this this whole sordid, corrupt, egregious charade and all the clowns invovled.

At this point, he can stay or he can go – the damage is done, the generational theft bill has passed, Chicago politics is scum but it has always been scum, why should anyone care that there is a dishonest African American democrat in the senate? Why should anyone be racist about this?There are dishonest white democrats (Geithner), Hispanic democrats (Solis, but I guess she hasn’t been confirmed), African American (Holder)…(Well, I don’t know about dishonest, per se, but he has enough other strikes against him…) in Obama’s cabinet that what is or isn’t in the senate doesn’t even really matter anymore. I mean, it matters to ME, but not to the chattering classes out there who voted for Obama et al in the first place. I’m so disgusted I could just weep.

As noted, he has no further prospects if he resigns, so why would he NOT fight to the bitter end? And use every possible means, legally and politically, to keep his seat?

Considering Burris’ offense – the possibility of perjury – compared to those of, say, Charles Rangel and William Jefferson, why should he NOT demand to be treated at least as well as those gentlemen? Jefferson, remember, was caught on video accepting $100,000 cash bribe and later used the National Guard to rescue $90,000 from his freezer in the Katrina aftermath. Rangel hasn’t denied the allegations against him, either (merely attempted to blame the tax evasion on his wife and/or their accountants).

So if obviously guilty men are allowed to serve on, why shouldn’t Burris?

Gov. Quinn also reconfirmed his support for a special election to fill the seat and the Republicans have a bill to do just that, so I doubt the appointment of another african-american is going to work.

So, I think Reid is hosed on this.

If I were Burris, I’d hold a public press conference on Monday stating flatly that “I [Burris] am not resigning and will never resign,” so “the only way to remove me [Burris] would be to expel me,” but that the Democrat Senate leadership better think twice about doing that because it will endanger their ability to defeat filibusters and that it would clearly be a “racist” move aimed at silencing black Americans.

Heck, Burris, like Blago, has nothing to lose – he might as well go b***s to the wall on this!!

Serves the Dems right! Couldn’t happen to a move deserving bunch!!
