Never mind that, despite spending all that money in 1936, 1937 turned out to be a worse year economically than any in the history of the nation, even worse than 1929…

FDR's New Deal wasn't enough to pull us out of the Depression
RobW (Diary) Thursday, January 29th at 6:03PM EST (link)We didn’t really pull out of the depression till much later- namely, when we spent something like 45% of GDP in the peak years of WWII.
So yes, if you really think we need a stimulus package to turn the economy around (I’m skeptical), you need to be spending much more than a measly 1% of GDP. The Keynesian economists even told FDR he wasn’t spending enough at the time.
