The king of the deficit hawks was Leon Panetta who always managed to see higher taxes as the only way to combat deficits, and always for the children. Though in the early nineties, say starting in '93, we managed to get both tax increases and reduced spending, trouble was the reductions were in Defense and allowed for increases elsewhere in the budget, the famous peace dividend that nobody ever got in the mail.

The Blue Dogs may change their public relations colors but dogs they remain, or mongrels. With the cooperation of the media they are born around election time and die with every whim of the party leadership, voting and supporting the usual mindless vote bribing and out of control waste.
Reach for your wallet and check your bank account when you hear the dreaded words "deficit hawk".
