Florida Today has an article today about the state’s early voting:
Democrats are beaming that their party is outperforming the Republicans in early voting, releasing numbers Wednesday that show registrants of their party ahead 54 percent to 30 percent among the 1.4 million voters who have gone to the polls early…
But party breakdowns for turnout aren’t the same as final tallies, and at least one poll offered a different view for the campaign of Republican John McCain.
A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll gave McCain a 49-45 lead over Democrat Barack Obama among Floridians who have already voted. And Republicans continued to show a traditional strength, leading 50 percent to the Democrats’ 30 percent in the 1.2 million absentee ballots already returned.
By way of comparison, there were a total of about 7.5 million votes cast in Florida in 2004 for the two major party presidential candidates. If the reporting on absentee ballots is correct, and the Los Angeles Times exit poll of early voters is also correct, then McCain currently has a lead of about 400,000 votes after one-third of all Floridians have cast their ballots. (It’s also important to note that about 325,000 of the votes so far are unassigned.)
If McCain is already winning Florida by 400,000 votes, with a third of the eligible voters having cast their ballots, Barack Obama is going to have a hard time prevailing in the state.

ss Thursday, October 30th at 1:25PM EST (link)From the Orlando Sentinel:
*Young people are turning out in disproportionately low numbers. Though major registration efforts this year boosted their totals to nearly 25 percent of the total electorate, voters younger than 35 represent only 15 percent of early voters, making them the worst-performing demographic group in the analysis.

Barry May Be Underperforming
jimmuy8 (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 2:37PM EST (link)I’ve been following Volusia County, FL returns. I know nothing about the local or its history.
However: In 2004, the early vote split about 60/40 for Kerry. Right now, they identify Dems at 54.3% vs. 26.3% as Rs and 19.4% as other.
This is a county that Kerry ended up winning only by 50.8% to 49.2%. A .9% shift (3,626 votes) and the county would have went to Bush–despite the huge % advantage the Dems had in the early voting (Kerry got 24,064 early votes). That 6.12% lag that the Dems have over Kerry’s numbers may equal about 1,500 votes less.
Of note: the early votes in 2008 are 5,012 ahead of 2004 with 3 more days to go.
Bottom line: The vote totals may be up but, the Rs and Ds are still turning out at the same rate.
Well, Nevada exit poll of early voters turns out to be favorable to McCain too.

As far as the polls, I trust NONE of them, good or bad. McCain is the underdog/longshot, whatever. AFAIK, we are 20+ points down and need a miracle. So, I’m continuing to talk to the Miracle Worker around the clock.

Dems acknowledge
ColoKid Thursday, October 30th at 6:54PM EST (link)that their strategy to win is based on early turnout. Seems to me there are two reasons for this:
By spreading the voting out over a longer period of time, they are able to maximize the effectiveness of their GOTV effort — phone calls, knocking on doors, giving rides to the polls, etc. — which is very labor intensive.
By publicizing the early Dem turn out relative to the Reps, they may be able to discourage the Reps’ turnout.
Seems like a good strategy to me. We can’t do much about their GOTV effort, but we can certainly refuse to be discouraged from voting.
Not that the MSM is so clever
RJD (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 7:12PM EST (link)but beware of reverse coverage: instead of trying to depress the vote by reporting McCain has lost, media may attempt to convince voters McCain is winning hands down and in fact, doesn’t need your vote. Go Vote! Find the time, take the time. Vote.

BTW, our pastor has informed us that our worship service theme this coming Sunday will be based on the letters of Apostle Paul. Let me quote some of them here.
*Point #1: * My church was struck by Obama’s misleading infomercial that appeals to emotion, much more than to reasons. My pastor has a warning on this – that each of us must work hard so that we shall not be a “burden” to others.
Point #2: In praying for our country, my pastor said that we should not lose track of God’s promises. We did what we think is good for our people and country. That is good work, but we are all thinking that what we have done is “not enough”. And that is best part! Because somebody up there in heaven will complete the work for us.
Let us continue to pray even after this election!
Maybe Obama is already assured of winning.
