the rest of the good folks in Florida need to show up on Tuesday and finish the job, while the rest of us do our part.

Hilary has a lot of supporters here in Florida. I suspect many are crossing over and voting McCain.

I’ve been following Volusia County, FL returns. I know nothing about the local or its history.

However: In 2004, the early vote split about 60/40 for Kerry. Right now, they identify Dems at 54.3% vs. 26.3% as Rs and 19.4% as other.

This is a county that Kerry ended up winning only by 50.8% to 49.2%. A .9% shift (3,626 votes) and the county would have went to Bush–despite the huge % advantage the Dems had in the early voting (Kerry got 24,064 early votes). That 6.12% lag that the Dems have over Kerry’s numbers may equal about 1,500 votes less.

Of note: the early votes in 2008 are 5,012 ahead of 2004 with 3 more days to go.

Bottom line: The vote totals may be up but, the Rs and Ds are still turning out at the same rate.

Let’s not forget the exit polling from 2004. It was supposed to be a Kerry landslide, remember? I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. Let’s just do all we can do before election day before we start celebrating.

Still, it is nice to have some REAL hope.

Stuff looks promising, but we need to get out and vote. Talk to your friends. I am working on several friends right now and think they’re now leaning McCain.

Know what did it. I asked them one question. Who are you gonna vote for, a war hero or a socialist?

I could tell in their eyes they were switching their votes right there.

Obama has about 280ish electoral college votes without Florida. Even if these fantastical accounts are accurate, McCain goes down in flames. Oops, should I not have pointed that out?

that their strategy to win is based on early turnout. Seems to me there are two reasons for this:

1. By spreading the voting out over a longer period of time, they are able to maximize the effectiveness of their GOTV effort — phone calls, knocking on doors, giving rides to the polls, etc. — which is very labor intensive.

2. By publicizing the early Dem turn out relative to the Reps, they may be able to discourage the Reps’ turnout.

Seems like a good strategy to me. We can’t do much about their GOTV effort, but we can certainly refuse to be discouraged from voting.

but beware of reverse coverage: instead of trying to depress the vote by reporting McCain has lost, media may attempt to convince voters McCain is winning hands down and in fact, doesn’t need your vote. Go Vote! Find the time, take the time. Vote.
