Tom Perriello, VA-5^th, is currently undecided on Obamacare but PROMISED to vote no if abortion would be funded by tax-dollars. Let’s remind him to keep his word.

Perriello is in a GOP + 10 district but still voted for the House bill after supporting the Stupak amendment. Since then, he has said several times that he will vote no on any bill that contains federal funding for abortion.

“The office of U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, reiterated Thursday that he will oppose any health care reform bill that allows federal funding of abortion.”

Let’s remind him of his promise. In fact, let’s shut down the damn phone lines like we did with the amnesty bill back in 2006. I’m going to call each of Perriello’s offices and read these words back to him: “the congressman will oppose any bill that allows federal funding of abortion”. I’m going to make the staffer tell me that despite his promise, he is still undecided. Let’s make the staffer tell us that Perriello is going to force me to pay for a procedure I find morally reprehensible.

I’m torn about whether they’re going to pass Obamacare or not, but I know this much; I’m going to do my part by calling and emailing every day this week, and getting every freedom-loving American I know to do the same. If anyone else is in the 5th district of VA, please post in the comments, and we can work out some coordination.

Who’s with me?

I’m in the 5th district of VA, where Tom Perriello just voted for cap and trade. Here’s the letter that I’m planning on submitting, but I wanted to ask the collective brilliance of Redstate for any critique before sending it in. Is it too long? Should I add more or change the wording of anything?

Last Friday, the House passed Carbon Cap and Trade by a 219-212 margin. Despite running as a moderate, Tom Perriello was not one of the 44 Democrats who voted against this jobs-killing bill. His vote for the bill puts him far outside the mainstream of Virginia’s 5^th district.

The bill is 1500 pages long, but the purpose can be summed up in one sentence; energy use will become more expensive so people will consume less. However, increasing the cost of domestic energy use will provide an incentive for manufacturing plants to move overseas, where they will produce the same amount of greenhouse gasses, less the American jobs.

If the bill comes out of the Senate, electricity costs will dramatically increase. Perriello claims the increase in costs will be marginal, but if that were so, then the bill would not have any effect on consumption and would be pointless. As President Obama said, under cap and trade, “electricity prices will necessarily sky-rocket”.

Even under the assumption that this bill works exactly as planned, the EPA has said that by 2050 it will reduce temperatures by a mere one tenth of a degree Celsius. That assumes that other countries unburdened by this legislation do not increase their carbon production.

Comparing the marginal benefits with the substantial costs of this bill, particularly during a deep recession, should have made this an easy ‘no’ vote for Perriello.

I was furious at first, but the more I think about it, I realize that this isn’t all bad. Today was not a complete loss.

Because the vote passed by a tiny margin, we can credibly and accurately hold any Democrat accountable for the effects that it will have or the effects that the bill intends to have, even if nothing comes out of the senate on it.

For example:

Tom Perriello ran as a moderate Democrat and then voted for this bill.

On whatever day of the month that electricity bills go out in the district, let’s send a reminder to all voters that Congressman Perriello voted for the bill that will, in Obama’s own words, skyrocket electricity prices.

If for some reason the bill doesn’t come out of the senate, we’ll still send the reminder out, letting people know that if Perriello had his way, prices would have skyrocketed.

When gas shoots up to 4 dollars a gallon this fall, even if Cap and Trade hasn’t passed the senate yet, Perriello voted for the bill that would and will make things worse. Let’s put up signs around gas stations thanking Tom Perriello for raising the price of gasoline. I’m sure there are plenty of friendly station owners that wouldn’t mind.

When unemployment hits 10 percent, let’s remind the district that Tom Perriello voted for an explictly jobs-killing bill. The day it hits 10 percent we should have letters in every local newspaper, reminding people of the bill that Perriello voted for.

When a manufacturing plant shuts down of moves to China, let’s remind the district that the greenhouse gasses are still being produced, the only things gone are the American jobs. And remind them who made this possible.

Whenever Tom Perriello speaks about the economy, or promises to promote job creation, we’ll have a plant at his events asking him why he voted for a bill that will send millions of American jobs overseas. Ask him how he has the credibility to talk about creating jobs after he voted to destroy jobs.

That’s how I plan on using this against my representative. Do the same for yours.

Don’t let this passion run out or the issue die. If Clinton’s attempt to end DODA was overreaching, this is overreaching on steroids.

We took the time to make a phone call, now let’s take the time to write some letters to the editor. Keep this issue going.

My talking points will be:

1. This won’t stop any greenhouse gasses, it will just move them to China and Brazil.

2. This will move American jobs overseas.

3. In this economy, to send jobs overseas and hurt our economy with absolutely no benefits is insane.

4. Congressman Perriello ran as a moderate, but he’s voting as a far-left liberal.
