I'm an engineer so the other day I did some research and number crunching to determine just how many wind turbines and how much land would be required to match the output of a single US nuclear power plant. I chose the Palo Verde nuclear generating station in the desert outside Phoenix because it is the largest one in the country generating 3.2 GW from its three reactors.
Using GE's largest wind turbine, a 3.6 MW behemoth I determined that it would take ~ 8,000 wind turbines covering ~500 square miles, or a square 22.5 miles on a side.
Wind energy may not create much energy but it will create a lot of jobs and money for wind turbine manufacturers.

I'm happy to share my calculations and data with anyone interested.
