YouTube and Google Censors Popular Conservative YouTube Channel, Prager U

Anybody who reads me, or RedState regularly will know about Prager U. They’ve made some amazing videos that really get past a lot of the politically correct minutia, or inaccurate assumptions generated by politicians or the media.

If you have missed them, you can check out some of their hits, like The Top 5 Issues Plaguing the Black Community, Income Inequality Is Good, Things Every High School Principle Should Say, and debunking the 1 in 5 College Women Will Be Sexually Assaulted Myth.

But as it turns out, YouTube considers some of these ideas inappropriate, and placed their videos under a restricted category.

The restricted category is typically where videos of a mature nature are kept, such as sexual content, or adult themes. Usually, parents activate a blocker for their kids when it comes to restricted content so they can’t view it. More importantly, so do schools.

According to Prager U, when confronted about it, Google denied censoring the videos…even though they clearly had.

In response to an official complaint we filed, Google specialists defended their restriction of our videos, and said, “We don’t censor anyone”, although they do “take into consideration what the intent of the video is” and “what the focus of the video is.”

“We would like a legitimate answer from YouTube/Google as to why they have zero examples about how our content is disturbing, inappropriate, vulgar or hate speech,” Prager U’s Director of Outreach, Elisha Krauss, told RedState. “We know numerous schools, libraries and businesses use restricted mode and constantly hear that students and adults wanting to do unbiased research on multiple topics are being kept from using us as a resource.”

Many of these videos run wholly contrary to a politically correct line that Google – and by extension YouTube – have been running on as of late. You’ll recall that not long ago, YouTube began revoking monetization from videos that discuss anything offensive. This meant that a number of YouTube channels, particularly current event commentary channels, essentially lost their income through the site.

Prager U has never been vulgar, explicit, or in any way dirty. The only thing it’s guilty of is not towing a politically correct line by discussing and disseminating facts and information wholly inconvenient to politically correct crowds.

This seems less like making sure schools, businesses, and kids stay safe from explicit material, and more like an underhanded way to silence one side of the argument that is bringing up excellent points that destroy a narrative clearly preferred by Google.

Prager has begun a petition urging YouTube to stop censoring their videos, and allow them to be seen freely by anyone who wants to view them. As of this writing, the petition has over 23,000 signatures.
