Granville High Schools gave students a choice of watching the President’s speech or attending their regular classes. We have a 17 year old, V, living with us this year:
Me: Did you go to the speech?
V: No, I decided I did not want to hear Obama.
Me: How many kids went?
V: I would say most.
Me: What did the kids who went say about it after?
V: Most of them just wanted to get out of class.

Unironic irony
Loren Heal (Diary) Wednesday, September 9th at 9:37AM EST (link)The most serious criticism about it beforehand was not that the President was going to propagandize the kiddies (though left to his own devices, he would have done that). The most serious criticism was that he was wasting their time watching TV instead of telling their teachers to drop the politics and teach the fundamentals.
So, the kids knew it was a timewaster, and those who could stomach it took advantage of the opportunity presented them.

Listen to a politician, or go hang out with my friends in the lunch room goofing off…. hard choice
