This obviously isn’t the place for me if they are going to allow defeatists on the front page 19 days before the election.

As for me, I’m commiting to continuing my support of McCain Palin. I’m changing my tactics and altering how I spend my money, but I’m not about to give up.

Lastly, I have commited to spending an hour in prayer each day for this election. I suggest others do the same. We had divine intervention in 2000, we can have it again.

Do you have any idea how far this single statement can be carried and how much damage it can now do?

To the extent that we (collectively at RS)have any influence in the political process, you may have just helped increase any margin of defeat even down the ticket.

Demoralizing those who may have been willing to go out and fight by proclaiming the battle lost is…not helpful.

But at what point do you shift focus from the Presidency to the Senate? Where is that line? If resources do indeed need to go to Senators to prevent a filibuster proof majority and they instead go to a failed Presidency bid where does that leave everyone?

Give up? With the race 3 in gallup, 4 in rasmussen and 3.6 in zogby? Are you kidding me? You NEVER give up. When I was on my 6th grade basketball team, our opponents had a steal and breakaway. I was the closest to the opposing player racing down the court. I was 2 steps behind him. I stopped at the top of the key and he made his layup. My coach called timeout and BENCHED me. It was a great lesson to learn. If I had kept going he may have missed. You NEVER give up. I never gave up again in that type of situation and a number of breakaway layups were missed thanks to me and my teammates NEVER GIVING UP. McCain can win this yet. I know a higher up at the RNC and he tells me there is RECORD GOP turnout in all the states with early voting. I’m very encouraged. Giving up now with a quarter left in the game is borderline TREASONESS. Go McCain/Palin.

Barring a miracle (and I’ll be praying for one along with c17wife) I have to agree with you Brad. We just don’t have the candidate to beat The One. I’m still not sure who could beat him this year.

July into early August was the high point of McCain’s campaign, with the announcement of Sarah Palin as his running mate being the pinnacle.

I will still be voting for Sarah Palin. I really want her to win. I continue to think that McCain is Bob Dole II.

If we can somehow keep the Democrats from getting a super-majority in both houses I will consider that a moral victory for our party. We do need to focus all our efforts on that goal.

If, after 2 solid years of glowing media spin, Obama can only edge out McCain by a few percetage points in a biased poll, the democrats are in trouble. I have very principled differences with Mr. McCain on some issues. That aside, I won’t surrender the bounty of liberty so threatened by the opposition candidate. That means supporting McCain to the bitter end, something repeatedly advocated at RS. Now that you have divined an end to this race, we are supposed to accept such contra intellectual opines (oh, the polls, woe is me!). I can think of nothing which removes more credibility from any director of this community.

I don’t advocate thought control or suppression of independent thought. However, if I have garnered anything from the wealth of electoral information and historical perspective available it is that while currently a very challenging environment for McCain, this is far from over. I would rather die with the warriors than weep with the widows.

OK, so how many of you critical of this post have done anything today to make a difference? Did you contribute to a Senate race? Did you write a letter to the local paper? Send something out to your email address book? Let’s get to work, people.

however using those particular words ‘The presidential race is over’ in the title seems more like rubbing salt into our wounds than perhaps a dose of ‘tough love’ realism.

Many are NOT ready to give up the race. With the race only 19 days away, that may seem real close, but we all know a LOT can happen in that short time.

I think the issue of Joe the Plumber may be a game changer. Am I being silly? Maybe, but can’t we wait a few days to see how and if the narrative changes
before we throw in the towel?

McCain DID do what the base voters wanted him to do- he took the fight to Obama. Maybe the snap polls show well for Obama now, but jeeze, the mood of the country CAN change QUICKLY, but not as fast as those darn immediate polls. So lets give it a few days-I think the numbers are going to tighten up significantly!

I do agree that the down ticket races need much more attention-
donating $, phonebanking and canvassing for these candidates WILL make the difference. I hope the 527′s and the RNC open up their wallets and fight for the Senate and House races.
