Time to turn it around. I have not seen one liberal argue why Obama is good for the country. All I hear from the liberals is their hate for Palin. They will lose big if they have to run on is hate. They certainly cannot run on Obama record thus far.

This isn't about Palin. It isn't about any one candidate or clique. It is about us. It is time to get in their faces and stay there until we have dislodged every 'Rat we can. We owe it to the country let alone our party to flush this flotsam to the sea.

but that doesn't negate the negative of looking like she quit...

The fact that she quit isn't as important in my mind...but it's still a negative because it makes her look ambitious or makes it look like she has something to hide.

Again...I'm a fan and am supporting her for 2012...but I'm also a realist and can't ignore the obvious

I was listening to some bird on the radio this morning saying that he really liked/likes Palin, and that he supported her, but she quit- and, worse, she didn't tell us what she plans to do now. It seems that many have not paid attention to her words, but want to fill in non-existent empty spaces, with nothing more than speculation. She laid out her case for why she decided to step-down now. She opened the door for Parnell, who hopefully will win the elction to the post in 2010. She talked about helping good candidates get elected, most likely in 2010, which will be a critical year in order to defeat the Obama/Liberal agenda. If the Republicans don't take back control in 2010, there is no push back against Socialism. She has been attacked, not only by the MSM for leaving her state to do campaign speeches or to attend Republican events, but by many in her own party. Had she finished her term, sometime in 2010, she would have already missed the boat in helping other candidates. I want to see her here at some time before Nov. helping to get McDonnell elected as Gov. in VA. Can you imagine the negative press she would have gotten for "leaving her state unattended" even by some Republicans? And BBK, you are so correct with your read on the RS commentors, especially the ones who voted in the majority that there is a scandal coming. That's pretty sad.

it just so happens that I am building my base slowly, accumulating political capital, and expect to run for president in about 2024!

You are assuming there will be an America in existence in 2024.

With Obama's bald leadership we might not last until 2010....

The main point of your diary is a serious issue. Our party seems to eat our young, old, whatever. Instead of putting our energy towards the leftist Dem party that has taken over the country, we are flailing about and beating our own with the stick. Not a very sensible thing to do. But we keep on doing it.

At this point, the reasons why she stepped down doesn't really matter. It is done. No one can read the future. And like you, over a year ago, I said to my family no way would Obama ever get elected. This country would not vote for someone who had spent 20yrs. with an America hating preacher (Wright), a radical terrorist (Ayers), etc. Well I certainly did not know my country.

That saying," Obama throwing people under the bus" ? Well we don't "throw" ours under the bus. We just lay them out nicely on the tracks.

She knows about the downside, that's why Friday afternoon. She will be all over the 2010 landscape. She couldn't do that while being Gov. She will help hundreds of candidates, building political capital. She CAN be ready for 2012 prez run. NOW is when to get out of Alaska and go national. It may not work, but she has to position for 2012, which may be her best shot at prez.

options available. She could stay isolated in state where above par performance would never be reported and neither would the unrelenting assault... that is until eventually an arrow got through. She might have recognized a chink in her own armor and decided to go on the offense instead of waiting around for it to be exploited. Don't really care which, I just intend to root her on if she does in fact go on the attack and definitely not feed to any of the negativity that we seem to have aplenty these days.

I don't think she did herself any good by quitting and has fueled speculation about Skeletons in her closet...

As of now I'm still giving her the benifit of the doubt but she has gone down a notch in my eyes because she quit. I'd think she'd be able to do more for herself as governor than as a private citizen. The one caveat I have there is...if she goes on a Reagan like speaking tour and builds on her message of unabashed conservative values and policies...she might climb to new heights!

but neither she nor we as conservatives have that luxury where the majority of the message is crafted the minority of the media. I see no reason to marginalize the one pol we have that so obviously scares them by saying she has quit anything regardless of how I rationally view the situation. I prefer to say she is going on the offensive, thinking out of the box, and just may surprise her detractors.

Personally I think she knew that holed up in Alaska and letting people taking endless potshots that one was bound to strike home and ruin any chance of a political future- to me, it seems the right decision regardless of what her ultimate goal is.

I hope that we have many great choices in 2012, Palin would not be my frontrunner even before this event- but I think it is foolish just to write her off now. Just to point out the reality of the world we live in today- one year ago I would have said that no President could ever be elected that had verifiable and current ties to terrorists and racist bigots- yet here we are.

Prior to Governor Palin's resignation, I've seen Governors step down for 3 reasons:
1) Entering a Federal level position. This includes Governors Napolitano and Sebelius for the Cabinet, Governors who have been elected Senator, Governors who have pre-arranged to be replacement Senators (Governor resigns, Lt Gov becomes Gov and then appoint just retired Gov to Senate)

2) Health. Heart attack/Stroke/ etc. In some cases health of a family member.

3) Scandal

Governor Palin's resignation certainly doesn't fit 1) , doesn't really fit into 2) and seems unlikely to fit into 3).

Can anyone come up with a prior Gubinatorial resignation that doesn't fit into 1),2) or 3)?

We share the same values and she has accomplished a lot as a leader. I have defended her VP candidacy as she put McCain ahead before he blew the bailout crisis. But now, she has quit an executive position entrusted to her, and it is hard to imagine how she rehabilitates herself enough to be entrusted with a governorship again, much less the Presidency.

Now, maybe she could be a glorified yea/nay voter in Congress.

But merely to comment on the obvious when one of our own removes themself from serious consideration...

She quit. For all we know she has no interest in future executive office. Her action of quitting bespeaks that loud and clear, no matter what she or others may harbour in the recesses of their minds.

Being off the list for the presidency is no shame. Most of us are off that list.

Gov. Palin mentioned that the Kosovo trip crystallized her decision to resign. I hoped that an announcement of her intent to spend a season bounty hunting in Afghanistan would follow. It didn't, but I think she ought to shoot something soon and post a trophy photo on her Facebook page. I want her critics to fear her and I want someone who represents a strong America weighing on the minds of Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, Chavez, etc.
