Columbia University's strategy of appeasement has officially failed. Pro-Hamas "protesters" stormed Hamilton Hall overnight, breaking windows and barricading inside. Videos showed the chaos unfolding with no police presence in sight.

A giant banner reading "intifada," which means violent revolution, was unfurled and hung from an upper-floor window.

The violence took place after a mid-afternoon deadline to vacate the school's common area. An illegal "encampment" in support of Hamas had been set up there for weeks.

To this point, school administrators have pledged to not call in the police or any other law enforcement authority again, instead choosing to "negotiate" with the terrorist backers. Multiple deadlines have been set and have passed with no consequences except unenforced "suspensions." Those attempts at appeasement have only emboldened the trespassers, and these are the results.

One would assume that this latest act of violence changes things. Surely, Columbia officials can't ignore the violent takeover and destruction of one of its most prized historical buildings. Unfortunately, because they've let this fester, the situation is going to be far tougher to bring under control. Would the NYPD want to even get involved again after they were thrown under the bus the first time?

Ultimately, this falls on the head of the administrators and faculty who run Columbia. They thought they could tame the tiger because deep down, they believed the same things as the Hamas supporters taking over the campus. That's not how it works. The revolution always eats its own, and Columbia is being destroyed by the radicalism of its leadership, not just the petty criminals on the ground.

All that aside, this has to end now. Someone outside the chain of command at Columbia needs to make the call. Gov. Kathy Hochul should call in the National Guard and restore order. This is no longer a "protest." It's terrorism.
