Ilhan Omar is no stranger to controversy and here is yet another example of the viciousness with which you operates.

In a House speech on Wednesday, Omar decided to make the topic of her rant the spate of recent abortion restriction laws passed by various states such as Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri. Given that they are state laws, what it has to do with Omar or her position in the House is unclear, but she decided to spew her venom anyway.

Here’s some of what she said.

“I rise today to defy the horrifying attacks happening against women’s reproductive rights all across this country,” Omar began.”Religious fundamentalists are currently trying to manipulate state laws in order to impose their beliefs on an entire society, all with complete disregard for voices and the rights of American women.”

Legally passing a state law is not “manipulating state laws.” The legislatures and the governors who passed and signed those laws were elected by the people of their states. Alabama’s new law, for example, enjoys huge majority support among the residents there. It’s not Ilhan Omar’s business what Alabama does.

“But because it’s happening here with the support of the ultra-conservative religious right, we call it religious freedom,” Omar continued. “Let’s just be honest, for the religious Right this isn’t simply about their care or concern for life. If they cared about or were concerned about children, they would be concerned about the children that are being detained and those that are dying in camps across our borders, or the children who are languishing in hunger and facing homelessness.”

This is a disgusting non-sequitur. The “religious right” are pro-life because they actually do care about the live of the unborn.  There is no comparison to the CBP dealing with a no-win situation at the border due to the Flores settlement and murdering kids in the womb. Yet, Omar seems to think there’s no difference.

I also don’t know a single Christian (although I’m sure there are exceptions) who isn’t supportive of helping children facing hunger and homelessness. In fact, Christians, by a wide margin, lead the nation in charitable giving for such causes. It’s Democrats, such as Beto O’Rourke and Bernie Sanders, who can’t even be bothered to give 1% of their incomes to help those in need. Omar should release her tax returns so we can see how much she’s given lately to the causes she claims Christians don’t care about. Let’s see if she puts her money where her mouth is.

“This isn’t about religious morality or conviction because we’ve seen time and time again those that talk about their faith and want to push policies because of their faith are the ones that simply are caught with the hypocrisy of not living it out in their personal lives,” Omar said.

Who exactly is she talking about? Perhaps she could give some examples of people pushing pro-life positions that otherwise help society in no other ways? I’m not sure any of those people exist, at least in my anecdotal existence.

Omar is just a terrible person. This is the kind of awful rhetoric we’ve come to expect from her. She never operates in good faith and her hate for Christians is only challenged by her rabid anti-Semitism. But this is who Democrats endorse now. They get to own it.
