Someone Talked Rudy Giuliani Out of Going to Ukraine

I don’t know who talked him out of it but it’s for the best I think.

Rudy Giuliani has decided it’s best not to go Ukraine to personally put his hands in their investigations involving the 2016 election and Joe Biden’s possible corruption. He went on Fox News and let it be known that it was best for him to sit back and watch it unfold.

“In order to remove any political suggestion,” the president’s personal attorney told Fox’s Shannon Bream, “I will step back and I will just watch it unfold.”

Giuliani went on to say he felt he was being setup.

Mr. Giuliani, President Trump’s personal lawyer, explained that he felt like he was being “set up,” and he blamed Democrats for trying to “spin” the trip.

“They say I was meddling in the election — ridiculous — but that’s their spin,” he said.

I don’t think setup is the right word here. This would have been a largely self-inflicted scandal. The moment he stepped foot in Ukraine, the press articles would have rained down accusing him of colluding with a foreign government to affect the 2020 election. Ironically, that’s exactly what the DNC did during the 2016 election with the former Ukrainian government, but the mainstream media have called a full blackout on that issue.

Politics isn’t fair. The media are hopelessly biased and Democrats will invent misconduct out of think air (see Bill Barr). That means Republicans probably shouldn’t hand them easy fodder. Giuliani going to Ukraine wasn’t going to help anyway. Those investigations are going to happen regardless from what we are hearing.

To be clear, I don’t think Rudy would have been doing anything wrong or illegal but that doesn’t change how it would have been played up. As a general statement though, Rudy should perhaps think about taking some time off. The cluster of an interview above is another in a long list of examples of why he’s not a good spokesman. He’s had numerous major flubs over the past year which have further stoked the collusion and obstruction narratives.

Besides, Hillary already showed us the right way to do this. If you want to garner opposition research from foreign sources, just hire Fusion GPS and funnel the money through a law firm. Then the media will pretend like nothing ever happened.

Actually, I think Trump should do that just to troll them and further expose their hypocrisy.
