Yes, he was one of Reagan's economic advisers, but he's also a proponent of a $400 billion stimulus. That's hardly an alternative viewpoint.

If Democrats were committed to an open and honest debate, they would invite an economist who supported tax relief rather than more government spending.

Economist Martin Feldstein, one of Reagan's economic advisers and a deficit hawk, will be testifying. As for the others who have been invited to offer views, I know that Mark Zandi is left-wing. The others I don't recognize.

So there will be at least one conservative voice heard. But it wouldn't matter anyway. They're going to pass a massive, massive spending bill -- the single biggest in history -- and it will be wholly out of left-wing cloth.

Just remember this the next time those on the left blame us for the debt. The debt was, is, and always will be about our spending more than we could ever hope to raise in taxes....and this upcoming boondoggle will be no exception.

Expect to loathe the bill. But expect it to become law -- and also expect it to be politically helpful to the Democrats. Voters like "free" money when they can be convinced (rightly or wrongly) that it's somebody else's.
