ME SEN: Latest poll shows Collins up 56-31

Devastating news for Democrats from the great state of Maine. A poll released today from Democratic pollster Patrick Murphy shows Senator Susan Collins has opened up her biggest lead of the race, ahead of far-left Democratic Congressman Tom Allen 55.8 -31.1.
Allen's campaign had been trumpeting a recent Rasmussen robo-poll that showed Collins' lead trimmed to 7%, despite heavy evidence that Rasmussen's sample was weighted disproportionately Democrat. It was a short-lived celebration though, as the latest figures from Pan Atlantic SMS Group show Allen's chances fading rapidly.
Allen has trailed substantially in every poll ever taken on this race. Collins' campaign holds a $2 million cash-on-hand lead, and they haven't bought a single television ad yet. Allen's campaign has been the beneficiary of over $360,000 of contributions through MoveOn.org, and MoveOn's affiliate groups have already funded over $1 million in attack ads against Collins. Despite this massive out-of-state effort, Collins lead is still growing.
This is very bad news for the Democrats' veto-proof Senate hopes.

Got a name, and what's the chance of getting a more conservative R past the primary. I tend to think that Collins reflects the people and values of the state of Maine, which is why she will be re-elected.

Collins is as conservative a politician as Maine could get right now. This race is kind of a bellweather about which way the climate is headed up here, a strong win for her would give a bit of hope to chances of Redding up the state.
That's the fun thing about the netroots: tilting at windmills. Let them waste their money in Maine; every dollar they spend there is a dollar they can't spend on a race that is close.

Collins will win but the race will tighten. The GOP needs more woman faces in Senate so her and Snowe are benefits to the party.
Why aren't Collins or Snowe being considered as possible VPs?

Sayeth the moderate, neocon squish.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
Yes, because both are moderate Republicans but I recommend everyone go read up on Olympia Snowe's bio. The woman has dealt with so much death and risen above it all.

While this is good news, Senator Collins is undoubtedly one of the further left Republican Senators and a very unsure vote. Would Maine accept a far more conservative Senator 6 years from now, or is the climate just ripe enough for us to place a moderate in the seat?
