Democrats Look Back in Anger

Political Pyro, a Democrat, has nailed it. Can't say it breaks my heart. Posted in its entirety, with permission.

The Democrat Party — crippled for decades by stale ideas that never quite resonated after the turbulent 60’s, humiliated by the perception of weakness against the backdrop of the Cold War and the Reagan Revolution — the party of George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis FINALLY broke through the bland barrier when Bill Clinton was discovered in 1992.

The Republicans were so insensed with the DNC’s one shining star that they embarked on an eight year character assassination attempt, culminating with an impeachment trial that produced….. NOTHING.

The Clintons survived every political stick, stone, and scud launched at them. Yet amidst the constant haze of the incessant political battlefield they still managed to make the 90’s one of the most peaceful and prosperous times in American history.
The post-Bill Clinton years were like a time warp. We returned to candidates who were uncomfortable and stiff in debate. Al Gore, much like Jimmy Carter, has proven to be much more interesting far away from the political arena. John Kerry was a dud from the beginning, much like Dukakis. The Massachusetts liberals never had a ghost of a chance in connecting with the vastly diverse American culture.

After eight years of yet another DNC draught, not one but TWO shining stars have emerged. This time, however, each candidate inspires completely different segments of the DNC canvas. Each candidate is flawed in his and her own way. There are doubts that either candidate alone will be able to defeat John McCain in the general election.

But with the Democrat party split almost exactly down the middle, and both candidates drawing a record number of voters to the polls, any sane person in the DNC should have recognized months ago that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama together would be the "unstoppable force" that Bill Clinton spoke of months ago. Call them Yen and Yang.

Hillary Clinton "unleashed" with the backing power of the formidable Clinton machine, along with arguably the most inspirational political figure in 50 years, would have won in November in a landslide. With Hillary at the top of the ticket and the unvetted freshman senator in the V.P. slot, the perfect resolution to the perfect storm would have been complete.

Why Hillary on top? Because not only has all her political dirty laundry been hanging in the wind for 15 years, it has rotted on the clothes line from endless Republican prodding. Barack Obama desperately needs a good, long meet-and-greet with the American public who deserves to know who he really is. Who is Wright, Rezko, Auschi, Odinga, and Ayers? What do they have to do with you? Why does your foreign policy team resemble a bunch of anti-Semetic skinheads that would make the Third Reich proud? America will NEVER elect Barack Obama without having satisfactory answers to those questions. Regardless of what Uncle Teddy thinks (Godspeed, Teddy). And six months isn’t enough time to do it.

The DNC has the opportunity to squeeze 16 years out of their two shining stars. Unfortunately, they don’t possess the vision to make that happen. After eight years as Vice President, under the protective wings and guidance of the Clintons, Barack Obama would emerge fully-vetted. At age 54, he could boast that his career never backtracked once in his stellar rise to the White House. He would still be fresh and inspiring.

As things stand now, Barack Obama is lining himself up to be yet another failed DNC attempt at reclaiming the White House. There is simply too much anger within the party for him to even secure a solid blue state victory. After November, he will tip-toe back into the Senate, his collegues glaring at him in dismay. The stellar rise of Barack Obama will suffer a setback that won’t allow him to run again for possibly 8 years. By then, the magic will be gone.

By attempting to play kingmaker for their man Barack Obama, the mainstream media and half of Washington have attempted to destroy the Clintons. In final analysis, they will succeed only in destroying both candidates. Sadly, many in Washington and the mainstream media, whether through greed or vanity, don’t have the intellectual fortitude to see the destruction of their party in the making. I pray my party changes course immediately and stops the bleeding of these self-inflicted wounds. Stop the political assassination of the Clintons now! Make the Clinton/Obama ticket a reality so we can all stand unified in November!

Stand down Michelle Obama! Stand down Keith Olbermann! Stand down Nancy Pelosi!

If only someone would listen…

I am not a Dem, but Pyro gets it. A golden opportunity is being blown by the party and the primary system they crafted, not to mention the noted flaws in the candidates. If they really wanted to pull a rabbit out of the hat, they should get her on the top of the ticket with Obama's blessing. The incoming fire on Obama is ferocious, it will get worse, and he cannot win. People know Hillary, and there will be no surprises between now and November with her. Obama is the gift to Republicans that keeps on giving.

I agree with you completely. Good post.

It's long past time that minorities turned on the Dems. Dems pander to people of color, while at the same time making them dependant on systems and services instituted by the party. Dems promise a better and more equal tomorrow while promoting through liberalisn and humanism the social ills that often contribute to the difficulties minorities face in America.

Unless you have permission to repost the whole thing here, that is.

Otherwise, I think this guy did nail the Dem's problem.

Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

But, to me, the most interesting thing was this:

Sadly, many in Washington and the mainstream media, whether through greed or vanity, don’t have the intellectual fortitude to see the destruction of their party in the making.

So is the author admitting that the mainstream media is part of the Democratic Party?

You ought to jump in and comment on a few posts here. Your perspective as a clear-eyed Dem would be a good addition, and even if folks disgree with you, you won't be abused.

I think Barack would see the wisdom in this idea. However, Michele would never let him do it.

...he has marketed himself as Mr. CandyCoatedHopeChange, distinctly different from yesterday's old school politics which are embodied by none other than ... Hillary.

Sure it was just marketing, with no underlying substance or meaningful differentiation, but to align himself with Hillary would completely repudiate BO's Madison Avenue brand. Not to mention the indignity of abandoning his delegate lead to become the third wheel on the Hillary/Billy Jeff ticket.

I really don't see how the Democrats can avoid a civil war (ironic, eh?) without BO at the top of the ticket.

doesn't want to be second to Hillary. However, if he's as smart as people say, he will see electoral college-wise, he's got electability problems in the general.

With the gaffe rate of Mr. and Mrs. O, and other primary season follies, I think I see a reason why 200 of the superdelegates are holding out on their decision.

Why did Barry need the new, hot rock group in Portland, the Decembrists, to perform a free concert right before Obama spoke?

Why did Barry have to proclaim loudly and highly visibly that he had a meaningless "majority" of the pledged delegates?

He's got all those millions to spend on internal polls. Methinks the polls aren't gibing with the MSM tune. So far he has failed to close the deal in spite of nonstop media fawning.

If the economy is in the tank by election time, or if McCain has a few gaffes of his own, I can see him winning.

Don't underestimate how much Bush, and the Republican Senate have ruined the party image.

No argument by redneck hippie

about the tarnished Republican image.

Since Barack's biggest selling point (not hope or change) is anti-war posturing, and since the war is becoming less controversial by the minute due to success in Iraq, I fail to see Barry as the "juggernaut."

I look for a slow fade once the country gets to know him better. Come on 527s !

I admit that most of my optimism is based on faith in the American people. As for the economy, I think we're too smart to be snookered by a Jimmy Carter clone.

Consider the percentage of voters with no personal adult/voter knowledge of the Jimmy Carter presidency -- that is everyone a year or two younger than me.

Conceded. by redneck hippie

Not everyone is "old" enough to have suffered under Jimmeh.

Barack can only thrive in an atmosphere of ignorance. I'm including the ignorance perpetuated on our college campuses.

In today's world, his brand of marxism is anathema to most Americans. All it will take is to get the word out on his inane ideas and plans and the cost in taxes and lack of security.

Can't wait for the debates to start up again. Barry's unpreparedness will once again be on parade.

They have no concept of the cost of things because they probably still have mommy, daddy, step mom, step dad, and 4 or 5 sets of grandparents helping support the kids lifestyle.

Just go tap the credit cards again -- and if things go to hell just walk away and start over.

However, I have great trepidation when it comes to considering the minds of our fellow Americans. They don't seem to spend much time thinking about politics until November 1 rolls around.

Too many times I have found myself saying: "What the hell were they thinking!?"

he said, if they play it right the Dems could get sixteen years out of their two candidates, come on now, four years of either of them is more likely.

Starting with the worst- FDR-egomaniacal fiend that gave birth to the modern welfare state and made the Great Depression truly depressing.
Woodrow Wilson- another egomaniac
LBJ- when can we cut and run from this losers War On Poverty??? It's a quagmire that has cost us trillions of dollars and decimated the traditional family units of blacks and poor everybody elses.
Jimmuh Carter- This idiot is responsible for the problems we have in the Middle East. He killed our economy and has the distinction of being the worst ex-president.
Slick Willy Clinton- His best legacy is the show you can get by turning off the light's in the Oval Office and gettin' out a blacklight. Oh yeah, he was also the President who had Islamfascists declare war on us but ignored it. I wouldn't want you on my ball team pointguard, you can't stop nothin'!
Tim Schieferecke

It's close, but I put Bush in Jimmy Carter territory. Slick Willy marginally better and LBJ in between. Woodrow Wilson and FDR were clearly better than Bush. Both won the wars of their generation against more threatening foes than the current crop of terrorists.

I am an FDR fan here. But we lost over 300,000 lives in WWII. We destroyed Germany thru conventional bombing and Japan thru nukes. They were utterly defeated and pacified populations of people that were into the cause of their leaders.

Iraqis were victims of a despot of a minority.

Bush has won two wars (one more than either FDR or Wilson. The nation Wilson defeated rose again, and FDR let Stalin win half of Hitler's war.

Saddam and the Taliban will never threaten the US again.

your paystub where it shows the monies withdrawn to pay for socialist security and medicare. FDR put all this flop into place which weakened the meaning of freedom. We are winning in Iraq, you might try watching a little more FOX and a little less MSNBC. WW2 was a much more symetrical war with defined enemies. Not so now. George Bush has made this country a much, much safer place.

FDR was known to have said that most of the new deal should only be temporary and that soc sec should only be a subsistence supplement that should one day be privatized.

In any event, his programs were enacted at a particular time in history when capitalism was under assault due to real life misery. (and I have read the Forgotten Man and know the mistakes that were made)

But shouldn't the real blame for the continuation and growth of the new deal lie with the dems and repubs that served in congress in the 1950s?

Did you now that Nixon, JFK and Eleanor actually lobbied to scale back the new deal programs but were rebuffed/

its true

in any event, FDR was dead.

My paystub! by Tim Schieferecke

Just chalk me up as a bitter white guy I guess. I read 'The Forgotten Man' too. The part where she talked about how he manipulated gold prices on a whim is my specific thought about him being egomaniacal. I also didn't like how he ran for more than two terms. I'll just have to agree to disagree with you on this one. I agree with a shout about almost everything else with you though.
