As anyone who is not living under a rock knows, Governor Palin wrote a book about her experiences as McCain’s VP, as well as about family and life. While the mere fact that the woman who is unable to read can write a book was news to the Left, the fact that it shed some light on why her role as VP was botched has driven the far Left and the Republican Left completely insane, much like anything that might make the unfortunate mistake of mentioning Governor Palin’s name these days. Whenever you hear Sarah! mentioned in the MSM, or even in mainstream conservative circles, you can be sure that it will be accompanied by some kind of derision or sarcasm from the press, who see her as a dumb Alaskan hick leading the stupid Christians and fringe nutcases by the collar. But unfortunately for the Left, their psychology surrounding Sarah is quite clear; to quote The Dark Knight (one of the best and most conservative movies made in this decade) “the fact that they’re trying to kill you means you’re getting to them.” And that my friends is the problem with Sarah!-she has exposed the Left and is seizing the leadership mantle of the Right, and while putting a sexy fresh face on the conservative movement.
What Sarah has done by embracing the Tea Party movement, and the conservative movement is divide the party. She has drawn a line in the sand and stated clearly, and unabashedly that she stands with the conservative wing of the conservative party, and that it is more important for us to be a party with values and principles, than a party that is willing to stand for anything and fall for everything. This is the key to revitalizing the Republican Party-as much as some of us would at times want to pack our balls and go home, the only way for conservatism to have a political voice is within the structure of the Republican Party. Thus, we need to take our party back from the McCain wing of the party that wishes to tell us, like they told Sarah, to sit down, shut up, and bat our eyelashes for the cameras. Unfortunately for McCain and his minions, Sarah is a better reflection for the GOP than he is, based on the Rasmussen Report that 59 percent of Republicans believe that Sarah! best reflects our values, compared with the fact that 74 percent of folks in the GOP think that the Republicrats in Washington are out of touch with their base. A new leader brings a new direction, and the fear that the fat cats could lose their place in the Washington elite and actually ::gasp:: be held accountable for their voting comes as a shock to most of the Congressional GOP. So why attack and address the message, when it is far easier to attack the messenger?
Governor Palin has promised to take the Republican Party in a new direction, one that Gingrich, McCain and their wing of the party are bound and determined not to take it. While Gingrich tells We the People to lie down and take a liberal being shoved down our throats, Palin advises us to stand up and fight. And as McCain goes from state to state, campaigning and fighting for liberal Republican candidates to stop the growing conservative movement within the party, Palin endorses the conservative candidates and speaks and campaigns on their behalf. It is no wonder that Mark Kirk, former McCainiac and aspiring Senator has written Palin, begging for her endorsement. NY23 has changed the game for Sarah Palin-she is no longer the former governor who resigned to early for a book deal. Sarah! is now shaping the party, and deciding who is worthy of the blessing (and GOTV soldiers) of the movement. Dede’s kiss of death was just the beginning.
We know know from Going Rogue that McCain and his people tried to muzzle Sarah, and control her throughout the campaign, a campaign that would have been further lost without her. We know that Sarah can energize crowds, decide an election and provide a boost or boon to a candidate who does not meet the conservative standards that she has help set within the party. The real problem that the Leftists have with Sarah is that she is Rudy without the legendary snarl. Sarah is a fighter, and one who is unwilling to back down to the folks who want to put her in a corner as a folksy but airheaded politician whose greatest accomplishment is being able to see Russia from her house. I admit, I orginially thought that the 2008 blunders were too much-until I started listening to what she had to say. The woman is conservative as it gets, and more importantly, she is willing to fight for the conservative cause, something that not even Fred ::ducks EPUS gunshot:: is willing to do. Considering this former Fredhead can become a Sarahcudda trooper, the question is not how do you solve a problem like Sarah; for the conservative movement, it is how many matches do we need for someone willing to pick up Reagan’s torch? It’s time to go rogue and make a differenec in our party and in our country. I asked a couple weeks ago where was our Leonidas? Perhaps our Spartan was a woman all long. You betcha!

No, the book gives her a second chance, and if
The_Gadfly (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 9:30AM EST (link)she gets some decent PR advice, she can start to turn this around. While I don’t care for Luntz’s over emphasis on picking “high dial words” he did make some important points about interviewing on O’Reily the other night:
1) Sarah’s interviews have to be live and she has to have her own people there to take independent shots of it. They can parse the hell out of the interview if you give them time to edit it to their liking. I’ve always liked the B5 episode that shows how badly editing can bite you. Luntz noted how in the Barbara WaWa interview they kept closing tightly on the face, which 60 Minutes found makes people distrust the interviewee.
2) The interviews have to be short, no more than 15 minutes. This is mitigated somewhat if she follows #1, but some of the problems with her Katie Couric interview resulted from how much material she gave them.
She’s no dummy and she speaks well. Art has noted that repeatedly even as he skewers her for the one place where she actually is unschooled. If she can cut through the media spin, which the book and the book tours allow her to do, she can prove that. There’s at least 49% of the population that hate seeing a woman picked on, and won’t stand for it. So once she has proved how sharp she is, the lame stream media will have trouble getting back on script.
With all the attention she draws, three years is a long time.

kyle8- You opened this string with the comment
Scope (Diary) Sunday, November 22nd at 9:01AM EST (link)that Palin is damaged goods, and that that damage can never be repaired. Talk about emotions! Just who exactly tried to damage her, the MSM, the scared Liberals, and the losers that ran McCain’s campaign into the ground, until Palin came on the scene to repair a bad bad campaign, with a loser candidate. I promise, McCain would have lost in an embarrasing landslide if Palin hadn’t excited the thousands that she did. For you to buy into the notion that because, the Lefties manily, damaged her, is to say that the lefties won, and everyone should fear them, because they will damage anyone that gets in their way, so you better try and make nice nice with them. Fear is an emotion, and a very dibilitating one at that, but, I don’t see that argument as being your real impetus.
I have just posted on another diary, to Third Street, who has many of the same tactics as you, that you are simply firing the bullets that have been made by Achance. You use the term cultist, just as Third Street does, as well as accusing anyone with a favorable opinion of Palin, or anything about her, as being on a bandwagon. One can argue that there seems to be a concerted effort to divide anyone that posts anything about Palin into “you are with us,or you are against us” factions. Most here are independent thinkers, and do not buy into the Palinistas or the Achanistas. Most have a wait and see opinion. Most here will watch Palin’s movements, accomplishments, successes over the next few years, and then will make up their own minds for or against Palin. Some die hard Palinistas that wrote diaries here, or made their absolute pro-Palin comments, have been marginalized. They have left the site. Yet, we still have the die hard anti-Palins still trying to sway those that have not joined either cults or gotten on any bandwagons.

katesmith (Diary) Thursday, November 19th at 5:03PM EST (link)Some know this, but I did not until well after the election. It was repeated so often many believed it was fact. It was Tina Fey who said those words. The media did win that round, but I personally would rather die than concede future elections to the media, such as expressed in phrases like Sarah has been so damaged she could never win. The Republicans have already lost, big time. Their best ideas and best faces in the media have been failures. They lost congress, predictably and deservedly in 2006. They lost again in 2008. Republicans hogging the media spotlight for at least the past 5 years are responsible for these humiliating losses, the rise to power of Soros and Goldman Sachs, the long-brewing sub prime scam which took down the global economy for probably decades to come, the rise of non-existent global warming propaganda, and criminal cap and trade movement. Rush Limbaugh also noted what you did, ie the media will tell us who are best candidate is. The one they attack the most. They loved McCain but of course he turned out to be a Trojan Horse.

I think you mean something along the lines of:
We know that Sarah can energize crowds, decide an election and provide a boost to conservative candidates or be a bane to a candidate who does not meet the standards that she has help set within the party.
I pray that other potential guys for 2012 do exactly what she does! Passionately Fighting the evil Obamaoism in Washington!

pirate55 (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 10:17AM EST (link)If there was any damage inflicted on Sara Palin it was the moderates in the GOP and McCain campaign. A platform which tries to please all of the people will fail each and every time. Governor Palin now “gets it” and is a strong conservative, a movement which is and will continue to grow. Whether she runs for office in the future is up to her, but if she was “laughable” as the liberals would want everyone to believe, wouldn’t she be ignored and trivialized by now? Wake up Conservatives and stand behind those great citizens, normal and with common sense who reflect our conservatism and will convince more of our citizens in the future that this is not just the right path but the ONLY path.

Nobody contested Oprah speaking her mind
kowalski (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 2:41PM EST (link)For more than two decades now, Oprah Winfrey built her publishing empire and became the nation’s first Black female billionaire.
Sarah Palin is a woman from Alaska who accepted John McCain’s invitation to run the gauntlet as his VP pick, and I really have to ask:
“Why would anyone want to deny her a chance to tell her side of the story all around the country?”
Given people’s obedience to having narratives on all sides, I’d think this is something most of the sophisticates would welcome.
Since I was a small child, Oprah Winfrey has been the reigning queen of talk-show hostesses in practically every media market in this country. Her early shows were laughable by today’s standards — if you watch the reruns, the early Oprah Winfrey shows were thinly-produced talk shows where Oprah basically started from nothing. And yet this country didn’t want to stop her — it made her empire into the largest and most prominent day-time talk show empire in the world. I’m sure Martha Stewart is jealous.
Palin now has a moment or two to promote her book and make a tour and yet, lots of people think that’s inappropriate, somehow. Why?
There is no reason why.
I say to let her do what she believes is right for herself. She’s at her best when she does. As Oprah once said: “It is my truth.” If Palin isn’t that popular a year from now, it will be something people have decided, just as they decided whether or not to tune into Oprah Winfrey’s show in the past 20 years. Palin has quite clearly placed herself into the free market, and if people don’t want to watch a year from now, they won’t.

I had someone tell me
kowalski (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 2:48PM EST (link)I had someone tell me the other day that Palin should take on Rush Limbaugh as a radio host. I found that suggestion a little laughable: Palin doesn’t want to sit for three hours a day, five days a week, in front of a microphone — and even if she did, it’s really doubtful that she could do as good a job as Rush does.
I’d like to see Rush invite her to the program and do an interview, but I don’t think that’s Palin’s destiny; Palin doesn’t want to try and tear that down or compete against it, there are many other opportunities for her.
The really good thing about Palin is that her popularity stands on its own. After what she experienced from the “official” Republican party in the form of her VP run, I think she’s quite right to “go rogue.”
All the inside-the-beltway people including McCain staffers might hate my guts for saying that, but I have to tell them: People in this party voted for your guy with their noses held and a loogey in the back of their throats, so to speak.

Palin Fills the Vacuum of Frustration in Middle America for Left & Right
americanmuser (Diary) Saturday, November 21st at 1:11AM EST (link)America’s elite and Palin-haters everywhere should not be so quick to dismiss or disregard the future of Sarah Palin. No other national political figure so completely fills Middle America’s vacuum of frustration and hate for the Left and Right as Sarah Palin.
Middle America has been abandoned by the Left and Right, who have saddled it with a $700 billion taxpayer bailout, an unnecessary and costly war, a soaring deficit, and an overall neglect of the pocketbook issues that impact Middle America every day. Where are job creation, quality public education, affordable healthcare, and fiscal responsibility, to name a few?
Middle America is mad as hell at the Left and Right and they just might be willing to roll the dice on someone like Palin, who lacks an Ivy League education, is a working class hockey-mom with a disabled child, and who has blue-collar roots like many of the folks in Middle America. The status quo on the Left and Right have produced nothing material for Middle America, which may toss conventional wisdom into the toilet and throw the lever for Palin, figuring it has nothing to lose, and it may be right.
The Ivy League educated on the Left and Right have delivered little to nothing for Middle America, perhaps precisely because they are out of touch with the issues that someone like Palin understands personally.
However, to say that Palin is a salmon swimming upstream is an understatement. The results of a CBS News survey released Monday indicate that 66 percent of respondents do not want her to run for the White House in 2012. Seventy percent of respondents to a CNN/Opinion Research poll said she is not qualified to be president.
More difficult for Palin is the fact that the trend is not her friend—public opinion is moving in the wrong direction right now.
In the CBS survey, 43 percent of GOP respondents said Palin would have the ability to be an effective president. Only 11 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of independents agreed.
However, there is an opportunity for Palin among independents, where Palin’s rating is 41 percent favorable, and 48 percent unfavorable, according to Gallup.
These numbers are not great, but there is plenty of time if she can move the needle by appealing to Middle America and independents, which is where elections are won or lost.
Clearly, Palin has put the monkey on her back, especially with her resignation from Alaska’s governorship in July, a self-inflicted wound that will be difficult to explain away. However, don’t put it past Palin to put lipstick on this pig and paint herself as a victim of politically motivated and baseless ethics charges that prevented her from successfully serving the people of Alaska, forcing her to do the noble thing and take the bullet by resigning.
We can say what we want about Palin, but no Republican in recent history has created such frenzied excitement across the country as she has. Just take a look at the fervor she stirs as she wheels across Middle America on her book tour.
Perhaps this is a misreading of the tea leaves, but one could argue that she creates a wee bit more excitement than Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, the two Republican front-runners for president in 2012. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed woman just may be queen.

mriggio (Diary) Saturday, November 21st at 11:26AM EST (link)I’m not highly interested in what any polls say regarding 2012 today though; if we believed what they had to tell us back in 2005, why, we’d now be throwing brickbats at either President Hillary or President Rudy! Three years to election day is forever, but I do believe that whoever distinguishes himself/herself in the 2010 off-year, by backing those who both appeal to the base and win, will greatly enhance their standing in the presidential run-up beginning the day after the 2010 elections. An image make-over in the form of a successful book tour could greatly help pushing the P/R reset button for those not obsessed with politics, your Middle America and independents especially.

Justin_Case (Diary) Saturday, November 21st at 1:27PM EST (link)I talked with an elderly woman yesterday who can be described as a moderate Republican. She admitted to voting for Obama, while also now admitting to the error of her ways.
She went on to say that she can’t stand Palin, and if she is the nominee in ’12, she would vote for Obama.
It’s about principles and I will vote for the candidate who best reflects my conservative principles.
We may as well have one party rule if the best we can do is nominate another McCain.
BTW, put me down as a McCain voter on account of his VP choice in 2008.

“By midnight Sunday, a line approximately 500 people long stretched sidewalk-to-sidewalk from Barnes and Noble to Panera Bread. Supporters with Snuggies, sleeping bags and thermoses of hot coffee did their best to stay warm in the 38 degree frigid air. Nearly every shivering fan was reading through a copy of Palin’s memoir, which attendees were required to purchase in advance from the store. ”
