In a continuation of the recent pattern, there was unexpected bad news today.
I love the first two paragraphs in this piece. Read carefully….
The number of newly laid-off workers filing initial claims for jobless benefits rose unexpectedly last week, evidence that layoffs are continuing and jobs remain scarce.
The rise is the fourth in the past five weeks. Most economists hoped that claims would resume a downward trend that was evident in the fall and early winter.
Hoped? HOPED? What the ….? So they don’t do any kind of scientific research or study data, they just make it up as they go? (Sounds like global warming climate change research.)
There was virtually no good news, so the WH will have to work hard to spin it. Oh wait, no they won’t – they’ll just blame it on Bush and say it would have been worse if not for The One.
But I did like this paragraph, previewing tomorrow’s unemployment report, or at least the EXPECTED version of it.
The figures come a day before the Labor Department is scheduled to report the January employment figures, which are expected to show a tiny gain in jobs. The unemployment rate is forecast to rise to 10.1 percent.
If this pans out, it will be fun to see the WH try to say some tiny gain in jobs is a positive, even though it isn’t even enough to cover the net number of people joining (or at least attempting to join) the workforce, nudging employment from “at” 10% to “over” 10%.
Can we PLEASE get Obama to make more campaign stops in contested districts?

Of course, we’re in opposite world now, and “unexpected” now means just what you said. Ad in “Dammit, this is gonna make Obama look bad. Better ratchet up the Bush bashing.”
I keep thinking that this all stupid and our President seems
Richard Mullins (Diary) Thursday, February 4th at 11:36AM EST (link)be making things worse before it get better. That’s what happens when he brings up something that seems better then find out it gets much worse later. I’m very convinced that he has a jinx and it’s going down because of the jinx. Oh well. I’ve said in the past that he should go to any Democratic campaign in 2010, contested or not, because his presence is the deciding factor. Of course, it’s always a back firing factor though.

Lawyers and accountants are busy with distress sales and bankruptcy. The opportunities are software as a service for efficiencies to cut cost, especially in healthcare.

Feds Don't Create Jobs
dwander Thursday, February 4th at 1:00PM EST (link)For the life of me, I can’t figure out how this administration is ever going to turn this economy around. It appears that none of his administration has ever read any history books on how our economy worked in the past. Instead, they appear to read theoretical books from lame college professors that have never had a real job but know how everything works.
If they continue with the “tax the rich” and “spend like crazy pelosi in a plane” more people will lose their jobs.
Elections can’t come soon enough!
