ACORN steals money from firefighters – What’s the big deal?

The VRWC arm of the media has been all over this one.

Nearly $1 million in Homeland Security funding typically earmarked for fire departments has been awarded to ACORN, despite a clear signal from Congress that it intends to cut off federal funding to the embattled group.

It was one of only three such grants issued to the state and made up almost 80 percent of the firefighting money earmarked for Louisiana, prompting one of the U.S. senators from the state to demand that the funds be taken back.

You can believe Jindal and Vitter are all over it too. FNC just reported that FEMA says this money has been put on hold (probably until the publicity about it dies down).

All you hard-working firefighters must be SOOO proud of how much of your union dues has gone toward Democrats. Every Presidential election cycle you get to see Schaitberger and some plants in those yellow t-shirts at Obama rallies. Nice! You pay your union dues to help elect a guy who takes money that you should have and gives it to his crooked friends.

I don't relish any success at all for ACORN

But maybe firefighters should take control of their own unions. Ditto for AARP, for the NEA, for all the other ones that now find themselves with treadmarks on their faces from the Obama bus.

Yes they should...

But there is an even easier way for union members to make sure their dues don’t go to political campaigns…Every year they have to “renew” their membership(like they have a choice!). There is a very small box that says they do not want their dues used for political purposes. They just need to check it.
