Photo ID required for town hall meeting admittance — but not to vote

Sheila Jackson Lee isn’t the only Democratic House member from the Houston area looking like an idiot today.

The Corner has a link to this Newsbusters article about Rep Gene Green. He has announced that if you want to attend his town halls, you had better plan to produce a photo ID that proves you live in his district. But as you might expect, when it comes to voting in elections, he has voted against all attempts to add a photo ID requirement. Classic.

She has indisputable truth of global warming – she can “feel” it when she’s flying.

I wonder if you could add up the IQs of all the Democratic members of Congress and not make it to 10,000.

truth --> proof (oops)

and that you can FEEL many things. I don’t believe global warming is one of them.

However, perhaps she has super special skin that surpasses my own.

I really think that the Dem Congresscritters here in the Houston Area

Richard Mullins (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 7:09PM EST (link)

are getting a bit scared, since there is only 3 of them. That reminds me, the Dems on the defense now(if the plan of taking TX-15,TX-16,TX-17,TX-20,TX-23,TX-25,TX-27 and TX-28 happens, they have a reason to be scared).

Joe Biden is like a Decrepit Park owner with a Meth lab that happens to not only be a dealer but a user.

Let’s Bankrupt the Democratic paty. Make spend all the money to defend thier candidates.

You might as well add TX-29

Gene Green’s District is not impossible (only D +8) but it’s certainly a long-shot. It’s more likely than the El-Paso-based 16th, which is D +10.

I see us taking TX-17 (Chet Edward’s heavily Republican district) easily, and we’ll certainly be competitive in TX-25 (Lloyd Dogget’s Austin district), though the latter is gerrymandered to include the most democratic parts of that city.

TX-15, TX-23, TX-27, and TX-28 are all swing districts, but are Hispanic-majority and generally have entrenched incumbents, so their tier 2.

The others, TX-15, TX-20, and TX-29, are all Urban, Hispanic-majority districts, which makes them the hardest to get, We’re not likely to get any of them without a lasting change in Hispanic voting patterns, though 2010 is certainly a good time for that to happen.

Gene Green is an idiot, too.

JustLeaveMeAlone (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 7:18PM EST (link)

He actually attempted to talk to doctors at a town hall meeting in The Woodlands. Gene isn’t in the same gene pool, intellectually, as those guys and gals. Why he thought he’d look like anything but an idiot is hard to fathom.

A suggested strategy against the "photo ID" ploy

ColdWarrior (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 7:43PM EST (link)

Thanks for posting this information! I had heard about this briefly on the radio but didn’t hear any of the specifics.

Besides the hypocrisy of Gene Green on the issue of photo IDs for voting as pointed out in the Newsbusters article, which one could add to the following, here’s a generic way to deal with this “only my constituents” can attend ploy.

Make sure you have a video camera so you can post it all on YouTube.

Alert the local news media in attendance, if any, and see if you can get them to video what you will explain to them will happen.

You approach the “gatekeeper” and, in as loud a voice as possible, after they deny you entrance, you explain to them that even though you do not live in the congresscritter’s district, you ARE his constituent because ALL congresscritters vote on legislation that affects ALL citizens. Therefore, you have JUST AS MUCH RIGHT TO BE THERE AS ANY OTHER CITIZEN, resident of the district or not.

Second, you explain that unless the congresscritter’s gatekeeper can unequivocally state that the congresscritter has never taken a dime of campaign money from any person or organization that resides OUTSIDE the district, that obviously the congresscritter thinks its okay to “hear from” people or organizations that do not reside in his district.

The important thing is not to get inside the forum, but to make these points, on camera, and then get it onto YouTube. And to make the points within earshot of as many of his constituents as possible. And, if possible, to get the local media to report on the episode.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

ColdWarrior

You could say, “I’ve never lived in his district, but I voted for him 2-3 times in the last election. Isn’t that good enough to get me in?”
