Huckabee Granted Clemency To Suspected Police Assassin

Ouch. This is going to hurt. (H/T) Ace Of Spades:

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.

Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protestations of prosecutors.

“This is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas’ Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.

Michelle Malkin has more on the Maurice Clemmons’ case.

I know I am going to catch flack from Huckabee fans, but I have never liked Huckabee professionally. He might talk a good game, but his record as Arkansas’ Governor has a lot to be desired. The thing that stands out the most to me is the Wayne DuMond case. I shutter to think what he’ll do if he becomes president.

It’s nothing personal. His spirituality is an inspiration. His belief in humity is admiral, if not misplaced. I wish him all the luck in his career at Fox News, because his political career is now over.

It'll hurt I definitely agree

But not as much as you think. The 17 year old kid got his sentence reduced from 60 years to 11 years — the original crime was robbery and possession of a handgun at school. This is entirely explainable from Huck’s view, and is much less damaging than the Dumond case.

A ton of parole mistakes were made I think both in Arkansas and Washington; this senseless killing could have been prevented.

This is the poster boy picture for Huckabee's lack of judgment.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, November 29th at 10:43PM EST (link)

If you go back an look at the number of pardons he granted as Governor there is no way he could have adequately reviewed the petitions. As far as this being “explainable from Huck’s view” speaks volumes about the schmuck. Everything about Huckabee is explainable to Huckabee and his ‘bots, of whom you are chief.

And Anteater, here's a short lil' list of Clemmons Arkansas stunts.

Nick Haynes (Diary) Sunday, November 29th at 11:28PM EST (link)

-During trial, was ordered to have extra security on him because the judge felt Clemmons was threatening him;
-Hid a hinge in his sock;
-Threw a lock at a bailiff; and
-Reached for a gun during transport.

Was he young? Yes. But guess what? Most everyone knows right from wrong at that age. Huckabee, in his commutation, cited Clemmons’ young age. He didn’t cite diddly about whether or not Clemmons had reformed during those 11 years. Oh, and he would’ve served additional time for an aggravated robbery that took place almost immediately after he was granted his commutation, but the prosecutors and police messed up the paperwork.

At least you admit the parole mistakes, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that Huckabee pardoned way too many people during his tenure as governor. If you believe that there are that many people that deserve pardons and commutations, then you need to reform your entire judicial and criminal justice system, rather than just handing out pardons and commutations like Halloween candy.

Of course, you can’t empathize your way to a good criminal justice system, so Huck would’ve been woefully inept.

If you’re not networking, you’re not helping.

Mercy and forgiveness is for the victim to dole out. The state is to protect the people through exactness in judgement. A Governor’s pen for clemency or pardon should be used very very rarely.

I hate to think of the hundreds of victims whose perpetrators were let go early due to Huckabee’s actions. He should be done politially and off the air.

But this very issue came up and basically was dismissed during the comapaign:

One of the many reasons this guy bothered me.

It was dismissed because there was only

speculation that it “might” happen. This is hard evidence tonight.

No. It HAD happened:

You're far too kind to Huck

aesthete (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 12:08AM EST (link)

I could care less about whether his show fails or not. He has been a disgrace on both a political and a personal level, and a complete tool, whatwith his false equivocations and mealy-mouthed support, at best, for conservatism (and that’s coming from RS’s king of equivocation).

It’s a shame that such a dramatic and fatal example as this is what is needed to make him unqualified for the presidency, considering that his record as AR’s governor was indictment enough for those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice – G.K. Chesterton

"His spirituality is an inspiration."

Flagstaff (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 3:14AM EST (link)

It is? Inspiration to whom?

Just like Obama and Clinton, he talks a good game until you check out all the details. To take one example, his ‘leaked to the public’ comments about the Mormon church were obviously meant to instill an unreasonable fear of Mitt Romney because of his religion. To claim that ‘he was just asking’ about Mormonism is asking us to think he didn’t pay attention in divinity school, which he probably didn’t.

If I had to pick one of the two based on his ethics, it would be Romney every time, and I’m definitely not a Mormon.

Spirituality =/= Ethics

BigGator5 (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 7:06AM EST (link)

Did I say Huckabee was ethical? As we have seen time and time again, a spiritual man is not always ethical.

So what is inspiring about 'spirituality'

especially in an ethically challenged person?

In fact, what is spirituality, and how can it be inspiring?

Suspect was a parolee or maybe you believe in Shariah?

R. George Dunn Monday, November 30th at 7:10AM EST (link)

This alleged person of interest is walking the streets due to the character of America’s Law of Grace and mercy. Better to have a Man of conviction who is a cautious leader then one who throws away the key.

We live in a judicial system that is ran by politically correct feelings, that the line between circumstantial facts and direct evidence is so blurred, the Judge reads the Law to the Jurists and it seems to be like glass as the words fall to the floor, much like the truth of Jury Nullification. Did you know that a jury is over the Judge and that if they can ignore evidence and declare the defendant innocent due to overriding circumstance. No appeal can be afforded to found innocent.

Jury Nullification Rights

The number of Souls who repented and have gone on to be respectable citizens from Governor Huckabee’s pardon does not justify the loss of life from one who disrespects their Mercy. But to not have pardons for your sins, leaves your liberty in a very difficult position. The Old Testament with it’s eye for an eye had a system of redemption. Not so sure about the Islam’s Shariah Law, for it to is an eye for an eye.

Don’t opportune to do this often but this circumstance demands this:

And, behold a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, “Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said unto him, “what is written in the law? how readest thou? And he, answering, said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” And he said unto him, “Thou hast answered right; this do, and thou shalt live.”–Luke x. 25-28.

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said unto him, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul. and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” –Matt. xxii 35-40. http://www.qhpress.org/quakerpages/qhoa/wilton.htm

Petition of the Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., that, to wit: Be it known henceforth, “the Value of the Elected Representative of the United States of America, who has taken the Constitutional Oath of Office, shall be of the authority to challenge any Law to which is deemed Unconstitutional.” Let FREEDOM Reign!!!

Evil cop killer still at large.

Veronica (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 11:10AM EST (link)

I doubt you’ll be reciting this if you were to run into him in an alleyway.

You’re seriously misguided. Seek guidance .. somewhere.

This evil cop-killer walks the streets “due” to the spineless character and political decisions of one gutless man.

What is “merciful” and “graceful” about the public being endangered by a police assasin?

Jesus also said give unto Caesar what is his. .. and, in my opinion, the electric chair would have been too good for Clemmons.

He’s a suspect. There’s a difference.

Here’s your Sharia: The murderer will probably turn out to be a NOI prison convert. If not, the NOI and the Mumiacs will come swooping in to the defense of him and those who aided him. But you go ahead and stay all high-minded if you want to. Just don’t do it here.

..the longer it takes to catch Clemmons, the longer it takes for Huckabee’s political career to spiral down the drain.

It’ll be ugly, but well-worth it once he’s gone.
