Gordon Smith Wasn’t Conservative Enough?

I heard some exit polling results for the Oregon U.S. Senate race between Gordon Smith and Jeff Merkley which absolutely blew my mind. I am left scratching my head and wondering what goes through the minds of some people.

According to the exit polls, many conservatives in this great state of mine did not vote for Gordon Smith because he wasn’t conservative enough. Instead they either voted for Jeff Merkley or voted for no one; which is still a vote for Jeff Merkley.

So let me get this right, Gordon Smith is not conservative enough so you vote for a liberal Democrat like Jeff Merkley?

Gordon Smith is not conservative enough so you deliberately vote for a liberal Democrat and help Harry Reid get closer to his 60 Democrat, FILIBUSTER PROOF, majority in the Senate?

Gordon Smith is not conservative enough so you willingly vote for a liberal Democrat and virtually turn our country over to a bunch of far left liberal thugs?

Gordon Smith is not conservative enough so you throw conservatism under the bus and vote for a liberal Democrat, essentially giving President elect Barack Obama unfettered power to perhaps destroy this country with his radical…YES WE CAN….CHANGE WE NEED…socialist policies?

Yes, Virginia, COMMON SENSE IS DEAD!!!

How soon can I move to Costa Rica?

Thank Goodness It’s Over

The election is over…the uncertainty is over. We now know the probable fate of our nation. President elect Barack Obama has been chosen by 52% of this nation to be our 44th president. So be it. It is now time to move forward.

I am quite surprised at how at peace I feel. I thought for sure that I would be livid if Obama won the presidency. I thought for sure I would run right out and lower my flag to half staff. But I’m not and I haven’t. As soon as I knew for sure that he had won I was at peace. I knew that I had done all I could, and even though it wasn’t enough, the Lord let me know that it would be okay.

As a citizen of this great nation, I will support President Obama when I feel he is right and I will vehemently oppose him when I think he is wrong. I pray that I will be able to support him more than I will have to oppose him, but I don’t hold out much hope.

Now that the election is over, there are a few people I would like to thank.

Let’s Talk About Flip Flops…Okay?

It is truly amazing how McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate has changed the political landscape. Obama seems to be more concerned with Palin, than McCain. I guess he has forgotten that McCain is actually the one he is running against.

I found a quote on Political Punch made by Obama regarding Palin. Obama was speaking at a rally in Flint, Michigan when he began attacking the new McCain-Palin add which touts Governor Palin’s claim that she stopped the “Bridge to Nowhere”. He said,

“Well, now, let’s get the facts clear here. When she was mayor, she hired a Washington lobbyist to get earmarks — pork barrel spending –- all the things that John McCain says is bad, she lobbied to get! And got a whole lot of it. When it came to the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’, she was for it until everybody started raising a fuss about it, and she started running for governor, and then, suddenly, she was against it!

You remember that? For it before you were against it’? I mean you can’t just make stuff up. You can’t just recreate yourself. You can’t just reinvent yourself. The American people aren’t stupid.”

Yes, Governor Palin was for the “Bridge to Nowhere” before she was against it. I’m sure Charlie Gibson will ask her about this issue, as will every other interviewer she speaks to from now to the election. However, I look forward to hearing her explain why she changed her position rather than listen to the speculators, her enemies and the Obama-Biden camp tell me why. However, if this is the only thing she changed her position on, then we’d be lucky to have her in the White House.

Obama-Biden Ticket is Mired in Democrat Rhetoric

Okay…this one is laughable. The Obama-Biden ticket is obviously delusional. Here is the latest whining from Mr. Bidden. I found this quote in an article entitled, “Obama Opens Fire on Palin” from The Australian.

“Senator Biden went after Ms Palin and Senator McCain aggressively yesterday, portraying the Republicans as desperate to make the November election about personalities because they have no capacity to discuss policy.

‘They got great quips,’ he said of his foes’ convention speeches. ‘The silence of the Republican Party was deafening on all the things that really matter.’

He said there was no attempt from the McCain-Palin ticket to discuss employment, healthcare, education or foreign policy because their strategy was simply to try to tear down the Democratic ticket on a personal level.

‘What do you talk about when you cannot explain the last eight years of failure? You talk about the other guy’”

Where were Obama & Biden during the GOP Convention? They must have been watching the football game instead. I know they weren’t watching the convention…or at least paying attention…maybe it was past their bedtime. They are so mired in the Democrat rhetoric that they don’t even know what the truth is anymore.

First, it is not McCain’s job to talk about the “last eight years of failure” as the Democrats refer to President Bush’s administration. That is their nasty tactic…and one they relish to use. They are the party on the outside of the White House. They are the party that insists on blaming President Bush for all the woes in the world and this nation…even when they had a huge hand in it all. It is McCain’s job to look forward…not backward. It is his job to distinguish himself without ridiculing his leader. I think he has done a fairly good job of doing just that.

McCain vs Obama: Part VI – Call to Action

The goal of each candidate during their convention is to rally support for their cause…too inspire their party faithful to “get out the vote” and to inspire undecided and disgruntled voters from the other party to come to their side.

Let’s take a look at how the two candidates attempted to do this.

Part VI – Call to Action:

McCain:

“If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you’re disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.

I’m going to fight for my cause every day as your president. I’m going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I’m an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach.

Fight with me.

Fight with me.

Fight for what’s right for our country.

McCain vs Obama: Part V – Foreign Policy/National Security

Over the past week, since Sarah Palin was announced as McCain’s vice presidential nominee, the media has been relentlessly pointing out her lack of foreign policy experience, while completely ignoring the lack of foreign policy experience of Barrack Obama. To them, it would seem, it is more important that the GOP vice president have foreign policy experience than it is for the Democrat president. Does this seem logical to anyone? It sure doesn’t to me.

However, in the real world, it is very important for the President to have foreign policy experience…or at least a concept of what foreign policy entails. It is also extremely important in this dangerous world that our president have a complete understanding of the threats from our enemies and a strong commitment to protect and defend this nation and its people.

So, how do the candidates see their role in foreign policy matters and what is their commitment to our national security? Let’s compare what they said in their speeches.

*Part V – Foreign Policy/National Security:
*

McCain:

“Today the prospect of a better world remains within our reach. But we must see the threats to peace and liberty in our time clearly and face them as Americans before us did: with confidence, wisdom, and resolve.

We have dealt a serious blow to Al Qaeda in recent years, but they’re not defeated, and they’ll strike us again, if they can. Iran remains the chief state sponsor of terrorism and is on the path to acquiring nuclear weapons. Russia’s leaders, rich with oil wealth and corrupt with power, have rejected democratic ideals and the obligations of a responsible power. They invaded a small, democratic neighbor to gain more control over the world’s oil supply, intimidate other neighbors, and further their ambitions of re-assembling the Russian empire. And the brave people of Georgia need our solidarity and our prayers. As president, I’ll work to establish good relations with Russia so that we need not fear a return to the Cold War. But we can’t turn a blind eye to aggression and international lawlessness that threatens the peace and stability of the world and the security of the American people.

McCain vs Obama: Part IV – Their Promise to America

More rhetoric from the left would have us believe that John McCain has no plan for America. That he has no new ideas. That he will not help, but only hurt America.

Let’s compare each candidates plan for America.

Part IV – Their Promise to America:

McCain:

“But let there be no doubt, my friends, we’re going to win this election. And after we’ve won, we’re going to reach out our hand to any willing patriot, make this government start working for you again, and get this country back on the road to prosperity and peace…

…We’re going to recover the people’s trust by standing up again to the values Americans admire. The party of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan is going to get back to basics…

McCain vs Obama: Part III – Leadership Experience

Much has been said in the media lately about leadership experience. Most of the comments have been directed at Sarah Palin, who is running as the GOP Vice President, not the President. And even though she served as a two-term Mayor of her home town and a one-term Governor of Alaska, the media seems to think she doesn’t have the leadership experience to hypothetically assume the Presidency should something happen to John McCain.

Nothing has been, or is being, said about the leadership experience of either presidential candidate. So let’s see what each candidate had to say about his own leadership experience.

Part III – Leadership Experience:

McCain:

“…And let me just offer an advance warning to the old, big- spending, do-nothing, me-first, country-second crowd: Change is coming…

…I’m not in the habit of breaking my promises to my country, and neither is Governor Palin. And when we tell you we’re going to change Washington and stop leaving our country’s problems for some unluckier generation to fix, you can count on it.

McCain vs Obama: Part II – Today’s Challenges Facing Americans

The Obama campaign has spent a great deal of time telling us that John McCain just doesn’t get it. That he just doesn’t realize that people are hurting. They make reference to idiot comments made by people in the McCain camp, rather than statements actually made by McCain to prove their point.

So let’s see what each candidate said about the problems facing Americans.

*Part II – Today’s Challenges Facing Americans:
*

McCain:

“These are tough times for many of you. You’re worried about keeping your job or finding a new one, and you’re struggling to put food on the table and stay in your home. All you’ve ever asked of your government is to stand on your side and not in your way. And that’s what I intend to do: stand on your side and fight for your future…

…I fight for Americans. I fight for you. I fight for Bill and Sue Nebe from Farmington Hills, Michigan, who lost their real estate investments in the bad housing market. Bill got a temporary job after he was out of work for seven months. Sue works three jobs to help pay the bills.

McCain vs Obama: Part I – The Promise of America

With all said and done and the rhetoric being ratcheted up, I thought it would be a good idea to compare both Presidential nomination acceptance speeches side by side. To see what each man said during his speech.

I took both men’s speeches, analyzed the content and broke them down into six parts: The Promise of America, Today’s Challenges Facing Americans, Leadership Experience, Their Promise to America, Foreign Policy/National Security, and Call to Action.

*Part I – The Promise of America:
*

McCain:

“In this country, we believe everyone has something to contribute and deserves the opportunity to reach their God-given potential, from the boy whose descendants arrived on the Mayflower to the Latina daughter of migrant workers. We’re all God’s children, and we’re all Americans.

As a Woman, Does N.O.W. Speak for You?

On June 30, 1966, the National Organization for Women (N.O.W.) was founded with this statement of purpose,

“To take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men.”

All women in America owe N.O.W. a debt of gratitude for the work they did for women’s rights. In the 1970′s N.O.W. promoted the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constiution. Who knows where we would be today if it weren’t for those twenty-eight women and men who gathered and founded the organization.

But what about today? If you are a woman who feels represented by N.O.W., and its current political agenda, please raise your hand……..I’m waiting……..I’m still waiting……..that’s what I thought. Today, N.O.W. does not speak for, or represent, most women; especially conservative women.

She must be More Qualified than Anyone Thought

Sarah Palin must be more qualified and ready to assume the Presidency than anyone thought. She must be more qualified and ready to assume the Presidency than Obama and the liberal media wants to admit.

Sarah has the left-wing bloggers and liberal media running scared. Their vile and disgusting attacks against her and her family are proof that they truly believe the American people have not bought into their inexperience argument. They see that she has not only energized the conservative base of the Republican Party, but she may even be inspiring the conservative members of the Democrat Party, Independents and some Hillary supporters. Therefore, they have to destroy her. They have to destroy her family. They have to destroy her credibility. They have to demean her accomplishments. They have to make her pay for daring to challenge the status quo.

Experience, Experience, Experience

The media, Democrats and some Republicans are beginning to sound like a ridiculous broken record. They keep singing the same old tune, “Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is inexperienced and she isn’t ready to become President.”

First, she isn’t running as President…McCain is. She will be the Vice President and will only become President if McCain passes away while in office. He is only 72 years old and his doctor’s have given him a clean bill of health. He could live for another ten or twenty years…way past the one term he has said he will only serve.

A Message to Barrack

I’ve heard you say on countless occasions that the Republicans are trying to scare people into not voting for you because, “I don’t look like any of the other faces on our money.” Or because, “My name is different”. For the record, Barrack, the only person I have heard say these things about you is YOU!!! You, Barrack, are the only one who is making race an issue in this election. We don’t care what color your skin is or what your name sounds like. We only care about your qualifications and what you say your plans are for this country and its people.

I am not going to vote for you in November, not because you are black and not because your name is different. I am not going to vote for you because you and I do not agree on one single issue.
