Swine flu shots and mass sterilization

Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has instructed Americans to be inoculated for the H1N1 (swine) flu.  The government has predicted the influenza pandemic could potentially result in 2 million Americans being hospitalized.

At the same time, the White House Science Czar John Holdren has written a book in 1977 with noted false prophet of doom Paul Ehrlich where he brainstormed methods of mass sterilization of the population by adulterating food or water sources with a sterilant.  He laments that no such sterilant exists in 1977.

Why should we trust the government’s swine flu vaccine when the Obama administration elevates and embraces men such as John Holdren?  How have they earned our trust?

Now, to be honest, I don’t think the flu vaccine is adulterated to involuntarily sterilize the population.  Frankly, it’s unbelievable.  It’s also unbelievable that the government might take over the auto companies.  It’s unbelievable that the government would implement new job-destroying carbon control regulations during a deep recession.  We live in unbelievable times.

If the government wants us to trust them and get a flu shot, then, as a sign of sanity and good faith,  they need to remove John Holdren from his position as Science Czar.  And they must repudiate his views.

New Black Panther Party Prosecution Pattern

Glenn Reynolds links to Jennifer Rubin’s report on the latest in the New Black Panther Party case.  He comments:

You know, this case is a puzzlement. Perhaps there was fear that a prosecution would open up evidence of wider misconduct that would be more politically damaging than this scandal? Because that’s the only thing that makes sense here.

I disagree.  There are many answers that make sense.  For example, isn’t it much more plausible that Eric Holder and perhaps President Obama himself are sympathetic to the New Black Panther Party and dropped the charges as a reward for the Black Panthers’ support?

When combined with the handling of the Andrew Sullivan case, this establishes a pattern of selective failure to prosecute crimes committed by President Obama’s political allies.  It’s easy to imagine some possible motives for the Justice Department engaging in selective justice:

  1. The charges may have been dismissed in exchange for money or some other favor, possibly something as simple as future political support.
  2. Political allies are likely to be more useful in the future if they aren’t convicted felons.
  3. And finally, dismissing criminal charges shows a specific type of loyalty.  If you wanted to convince some other allies to engage in criminal acts for you, this is a convincing way to show them you’d fix their problems if they got caught.

All of these scenarios make sense.  The nonsense scenarios involve the Justice Department acting honestly in these cases.

Joe Wilson’s second big opportunity

The usual left-wing ringleaders are pushing to force Joe Wilson to formally apologize to Congress on the House floor.  This presents Joe Wilson with a tremendous opportunity to make a statement that will be heard across the country.  Here’s my suggestion for how such an apology might be worded:

I’ve come before you today to offer my humble apology for my outburst during the President’s address on Wednesday September 9th.

Regardless of the outright falsehood of statements the President made on that occasion, my comment was out of order.  Speakers in this chamber, especially the President of the United States, deserve to be heard without interruption.

Furthermore, I apologize for my indecorous use of the word “lie”.  In Washington, it has become a matter of protocol to refer to untrue statements as “errors” or to pretend that they are a misunderstanding, even when they are repeated many times over, and even when someone such as the President says one thing to a friendly audience and then makes contradictory statements to the Congress and the American people.

I understand that the time and place to highlight such duplicity and dishonesty is not as the President is speaking.

Please accept my apology.

That’s a first draft of an apology.  It might be useful to try to add a few sections to it in a similar vein — if Democrats get angry and start shouting at Joe Wilson as he’s apologizing, it would be gloriously ironic.

Joe Wilson has the chance to become even more prominent nationally if he uses his media time to lead in this way.
