NYS Young Republicans skewer David Paterson, demand Massa replacement election

Why no replacement election for Eric Massa? Because Republicans would take the seat, right?

The New York State Young Republicans video (at all three links below) deserves a watch. David Paterson’s slogan of “SCREW YOU, TAXPAYER!” could catch on.

The state’s Young Republicans released the above video in an attempt to goad Gov. David Paterson into calling a special election to fill the Congressional seat vacated by Eric Massa’s spectacular flameout. Paterson has so far been unwilling to call a special, citing the cost during a time of fiscal distress.

The “Screw You, Taxpayer” clip will warm the cockles of the hearts of fans of the Canadian sketch series “The Kids in the Hall.”

He won’t call a special election because he knows they’ll lose the seat

Young GOPers press Paterson on upstate special election (video)
2:35 PM, April 16, 2010 ι By MAGGIE HABERMAN

The New York State Young Republicans are publicly calling out Gov. Paterson for dragging his heels in calling a special election in NY-29 to replace disgraced Democratic Rep. Eric Massa, who stepped down several weeks ago amid an ethics scandal and claims of inappropriate behavior.

Paterson had suggested he would immediately set a date for the election, in which Corning Mayor Tom Reed has been running for months – originally planning to run against Massa as the Dem sought re-election.

But nothing has been set yet, despite repeated entreaties – prompting speculation that the governor is waiting because the Democrats don’t have a candidate in sight, and the seat is one they are seen as likely to lose.

New Website Stresses Need for Representation in NY-29

Lynn Krogh, Chair of the New York State Young Republicans, today announced that the YRs have started a new site and posted a new video trying to encourage Governor Paterson to call a special election in the 29th Congressional district.

“Eric Massa resigned over a month ago and Governor Paterson is once again delaying the people of New York a voice in Washington, D.C.,” said Krogh. “Massive spending bills, such as Obamacare are being passed in D.C, while NY Democrats try to find a decent candidate to run for the vacancy. Ultimately, this is another unjust case of taxation without representation.”

This is why the NYSYRs have established www.IDeserveAVote.com for the people of the unrepresented 29th CD. The federal government is taking up so many important issues and this is not the time to be without a voice.

The new site features an ad in which Governor Paterson is addressing Congress emphasizing their theme of “Screw you, taxpayers”, poor polling ratings, and the lack of an upstate congressional representative. There is also a section of the site asking people to sign their names to a petition that will be sent to the governor’s office to make their voices heard.

Krogh continued, “Former Corning Mayor Tom Reed has been in the race for over a year and is ready to take a seat in the House chamber. This popular Republican will be hard to beat in a special election, let alone November. I urge every New Yorker, specifically in the 29th CD, to sign the petition on www.IDeserveAVote.com to demand that the governor put partisan politics aside and return the constitutional right to the people of New York.”
