company brag about the “partnership” they’d entered into with SEIU. This conference was during the GWB Administration and had the members of most of the states and the federal labor relations regulatory agencies present as well as quite a few LR/HR director types like me from various governments.

First, I was simply appalled that an HR/LR director for a private company would use the word partnership in reference to a union, especially a thug union like SEIU. Second, I was appalled that most of the people in the room seemed to think it was a good thing. The woman was just brazen about the fact that they had chosen to “partner” with the union so they could use the union’s political muscle to get greater CA CalCare, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits and they could work together with SEIU to accomplish a National healthcare system. This was back in ’04 or ’05, so the providers and SEIU have been planning this thing for awhile. I just went outside and puked! Well, not really, but I thought about it.
