Jim Marshall’s recent ad on Warner Robins Air Force Base is very compelling and begs for a strong and immediate response. As a retired veteran, I recommend that Austin Scott counter this with his own ad that speaks of the Democrat Party’s long standing weakness on national security. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton cut defense to the bone in order to acquire budget dollars for pet government projects. Recently, President Obama stated that he too would cut the Department of Defense by ten percent.

Jim Marshall has served in the military and has brought military jobs to Middle Georgia. Jim Marshall is also a Democrat. The public needs to be reminded that his own Democrat leadership, to include Obama, Biden, Reid, Kerry, Pelosi, did everything they could to undermine the morale of our troops while they were in harm’s way. Recall that Jim Marshall’s Democrat colleague John Murtha referred to our soldiers as Nazis.

It is true that Austin Scott did not serve in the military. One can not, however, draw from this that he is not strong on Defense. It must be stated that he, along with the Republican Party, will do all that is necessary to retain and grow Warner Robin’s Air Force Base and to fight Obama’s reduction of the Department of Defense. We can not rely on Marshall or any Blue Dog Democrats to stem Obama’s plan to strip Defense. Democrats have already demonstrated, through Obamacare, how their votes can be bought.

Finally, I recommend that Scott solicit the support of retired military personnel, like Rick Goddard, to endorse Scott and help champion his position on Defense.

Rick Goddard, the Republican Eighth Congressional District challenger from Georgia and Jim Marshall, the Democratic incumbent, articulated essentially the same views on illegal immigration during the recent election. One would not have known this from the attack ads that Congressman Marshall ran against Goddard, which claimed that Goddard was “soft” on illegals. It is difficult to understand how folks in the Eighth District could have bought into this story recognizing that Republicans have historically been stronger than Democrats on this issue…but it worked!

Within the first 30 days of the new Congress, however, Jim Marshall showed his true colors by voting along with his Democratic colleagues and passing two bills that create new rights and benefits for illegal aliens. On February 4^th, President Obama signed into law an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Thanks to Jim’s “yes” vote on this bill, our country has moved ever closer to a nationalized healthcare system. The expended SCHIP program not only provides healthcare coverage eligibility (and governmental dependency) to 11 million children, whose parents make up to $80,000 per year, but it has extended these benefits to illegal aliens as well. This “back door” federal entitlement to illegals was made possible through a mechanism known as “express lane eligibility” which weakened the documentation of citizenship status provisions of the Deficit Reduction Act.

While the impact of SCHIP’s expansion may have escaped the radar screen of most casual observers, nearly all of us were keenly aware of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and its $789 billion price tag. President Obama signed this bill into law on February 17^th and if you were like most everyone else, you did not have time within the 24 hours that President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi allotted us to read all 1,100 pages before it became law. I’m sure Jim Marshall didn’t either, but that didn’t stop him from voting for it.

Incredibly, the economic stimulus package does not require E-Verify employment verification for contracts created with stimulus funding. E-Verify is a system that was jointly developed by Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration that requires federal contract employers to confirm that the employees they hire are American citizens. Congress went out of its way to eliminate these provisions for contracts created with stimulus funding claiming that the system has too many database errors. If this were true (and it is not), why is it not being eliminated all together? A more plausible explanation might be to provide employers the ability to hire illegal aliens without holding the hiring employer accountable. During a time when we are literally spending thousands of taxpayer dollars for each job created, is it too much to ask Jim Marshall to insure that these jobs go only to American citizens? Isn’t this what President Obama directed Mayor Reichert and other city mayors to do on February 21^st when he said, “You’re on the front lines of the crisis. What I will need from all of you is unprecedented responsibility and accountability?”

What other surprises lay ahead for us from Jim Marshall, our “conservative Democrat” from the Eighth Congressional District? On Thursday, February 26^th, President Obama released his $3.55 trillion budget to Congress. According to Senator Richard Burr, “Obama’s budget commits the government to a billion dollars a day in interest on the debt over the next decade.” Aside from this unfathomable debt, I fear that this will transform the county I love and served for thirty-one years into a socialistic society much like Europe. I will be following Mr. Marshall’s vote on this very carefully and I hope you will too.

CCHD Ends Funding To ACORN Over Financial Irregularities
Washington (CNS)

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development suspended funding a nationwide community organizing group after it was disclosed June 2 that nearly $1 million had been embezzled. Funding was suspended for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, popularly known as ACORN, because of the financial irregularities, said Ralph McCloud, executive director of CCHD, the U.S. bishop’s domestic anti-poverty and social justic program. “We’re not funding them at any level,” McCloud told Catholic News Service October 15. The suspension covers all 40 ACORN affiliates nationwide that had been approved for $1.13 million in grants for the funding cycle that started July 1, 2008. McCloud said the suspension came soon after his office learned that ACORN disclosed that Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke, had embezzled nearly $1 million from the organization and its affiliates in 1999 and 2000. Dale Rathke stepped down from his position with the organization in June when the matter became public; no charges were filed against him. Wade Rathke stepped down as the group’s lead organizer at the same time but remains chief organizer for ACORN International LLC. CCHD has hired specialists in forensic accounting to investigate whether any of its grant funding has been misappropriated, McCloud added.

For those of you who are concerned about the world’s opinion of the United States, consider this:

Senator Joseph Biden recently received a score of zero by The National Right to Life Committee and Senator Barack Obama received a perfect score of 100 by The National Abortion Rights League.

This has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the world. Archbishop Burke, a Vatican offical, was recently quoted in an Italian newspaper as saying that the Democratic Party risks “transforming itself into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues.”

Obviously there are no “Obama Truth Squads” in Italy yet like the ones in South Carolina and Missouri.

The whole world is watching and the United States must lead by example and protect life.

The Democratic Party spent a good portion of Wednesday night’s convention telling the American people how they loved and respected the military. For those of you that have very short memories, this is the same party that referred to our soldiers in 2006 as Nazi SS troops (Murtha) and cold blooded killers (Durbin), and accused them of terrorizing innocent civilians (Kerry). Neither these folks nor other members of their party said anything publicly about the kidnapped American soldiers who were beheaded and had their genitals cut off and shoved down their throats.

For those of you who have slightly longer memories, this is the same party that attempted to disallow the absentee ballots of America service members from Florida who were serving abroad during the 2000 Presidential elections.

And those of you who have great memories will recall that military service members were not even allowed in the White House on “official” business during the early years of President Clinton’s first term.

The Democratic Party is betting that most Americans will have short memories and will have forgotten all of this. While this may be true, the military will not forget.

Oh, and by the way Mr. Obama, we have won the war.
