Barton attacked for his ‘shakedown’ comments – by Republicans!

From thehill.com,

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) heard an earful from GOP lawmakers upset with Barton’s remarks during a series of votes on the floor Thursday afternoon.

I don’t get it. When that embarrassment Grayson from Florida was accusing the GOP of wanting to kill people, during the ‘health care’ debate, I don’t remember the same vociferous anger from Rep. Miller and his cohorts.

Someone on that article that I linked to made the perfect comment,

Good to know that Reps. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) and Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) prefer tyranny over bad PR.

Just for the record, I live in Louisiana, about 45 miles from the really bad stuff, and my family’s business is going to be really affected by this. But Mr. Barton was right. This was nothing more than an unconstitutional shakedown. He had the guts to say it. And now we see what reward you get for courage in the GOP.

Vote the RINOs out, put people with principle and the guts to stand on that principle in office. THAT’S how we’ll get on the road to recovery as a nation.

The Democrat witch hunt of the Dems yesterday

Scope (Diary) Thursday, June 17th at 7:29PM EST (link)

and today was nothing but a theatrical performance by the usual witch hunters, mainly from nostrils Waxman, and, the newly “I quit” senator Stuidpack. I expected that. When Joe Barton was coureagous enough to speak the truth, he was taken to task by the REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP. Who do you think is the head of that spineless, incompetent, idiot leadership- yes, you are correct The Ditch McConnell, who was sitting under the table, red faced, and shaking, while someone with some guts said something he was scared to death of, the truth. If McConnell remains the R senate leader, we are so screwed, we are so lost, we are so in the wasteland forever. No lie.

ps- Isn't the Republican position

on Baton the same thing as the “shakedown” he talked about? He was told that if he didn’t apologize, he would lose his seat on the Energy committee. Now do we know why the O is getting away with what he is. It’s because the R senate leadership is doing the same dang thing. And to think that RS carried this jerks arse across the finish line. Amazing.

If the fund is administered in a similiar manner to the

September 11th victim compensation fund then BP probably decided this was a pretty good deal for them.

They save on lawyer expenses, the government saves court expenses and the victims save on lawyer expenses as well. Removing ambulance chasing lawyers from the equation is always a win-win situation.

It would also protect BP from additional lawsuits from victims that have submitted claims, basically once someone submits a claim they waive rights to further lawsuits.

Also any unused funds will be returned to BP.

it's a matter of who you trust

Who is better able to determine where the funds go? The executive branch or the judicial branch? The executive will hopefully be more efficient, but, in the interest of fairness and justice, I would prefer these things be decided in court, even if it takes forever and many of the lawsuits are frivilous. The possibility the money will be used to fund the preferred projects of the administration makes me suspicious of the escrow solution. And then there’s the question of constitutional authority.

But, yes, you are right; this is a good move for BP, not a shakedown.

Again if the is administered like the Septmeber 11th fund

then neither the judicial branch nor the executive branch determine where the funds go, its an independent entity. Actually Ken Feinberg, who oversaw the September 11th fund, will be overseeing the BP fund as well. The funds can only be used for people who file legitimate claims so Feinberg can’t just fork over money to a new wind farm development somewhere.

BP prefers this, they understand that they won’t be able to get a fair and impartial jury in any court in the Country right now.
