Why I’m Still Skeptical of the Republican Party

Aside from Pennsylvania, the two Senate races I was most interested in were Nevada and Delaware.  I wanted to see Christine O’Donnell tighten the gap to make it competitive, and I was sure that Harry Reid would be fired.  instead, O’Donnell lost by nearly 20 points to a fool with no real understanding of the Constitution, and I’m still left wondering what underhanded tactics Harry Reid used to escape with his job intact.

The losses incurred by O’Donnell, Angle, and quite possibly Joe Miller have me pretty upset.  This didn’t have to happen.  And while I will admit that all three candidates have faults (they’re human beings, after all) I’m even more upset that the Republican party abandoned them.  I’ve been contemplating leaving the party to register as an independent for a few months, and I’m closer to doing so now even after the victory last night.

All three candidates were attacked primarily on character, not on the issues, with little to no defense from the Republican leadership.  While Joe Miller was the Republican nominee, the GOP leadership allowed Murkowski to smear him mainly on character instead of his stance on the issues.  Maybe a deal was in place where Murkowski said she’ll caucus with the Republicans and they decided to hedge their bets and pretty much leave the race alone.  And I know the issues about the computers, but Miller could give the beltway boys and girls a serious lesson in the Constitution and states’ rights.  The only prominent figure that went out on a limb for Joe Miller was Sarah Palin, and whether or not Karl Rove thinks she has “gravitas” or not, she showed she was the only one with the rocks to stand up for him.

As disgusting as with what happened with Miller, the GOP further aggrivated the hell out of me by not standing up for Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell.  True, I was wondering how Angle was lagging in the polls a couple of months ago, but after I saw her appearances on national TV and heard her on Mark Levin’s radio show I became a believer,  I was excoriated for my comments toward her campaign, and rightly so.  Who did the Republicans send to campaign for her?  Why be so squeamish by us common “Tea Party” folk?  And what they did to O’Donnell was the worst by far.  No help, no nothing.  They just let her dangle in the wind with no real support, and allowed the media to portray her as an airhead without as much as an apology.

I’ve beeen a loyal Republican for many years, and while it was a blast watching the House flip the way it did and see Senate seats fall our way was cool, I still have a bitter taste in my mouth with how these three races were handled.  We just let three good candidates lose winnable races all in the name of making sure they stay with the establishment.

O’Donnell mentioned “Republican cannibalism” in an interview today.  She’s right.  When she defeated Castle in the primary, she never even got an endorsement, and when how bad she was getting screwed over was mentioned on Rush Limbaugh’s show, I think she got a million dollars in donations….in one day.  For the GOP to take power/maintain power, they need us more than we need them.  And they should be kissing the Tea Party’s rears for the victories last night.

So while the Republican party is celebrating, I hope they know that there are more people out there like me that are still pretty pissed about how they managed to screw things up in the Senate races.  It’s time for new leadership in the party, and if they still insist on trying to kill off conservative voices in the party, then it’s time for a hostile takeover.  Instead of being grateful to the Tea Party, they screwed the movement over and are looking for the next country-club Republicans to carry their banner.

Dear Mike Castle and GOP Establishment: Go Fly a Kite

Earlier today, I heard reports that the NRSC would not be supporting Christine O’Donnell.  Those reports now seem false, and I’m glad that there is now support being shown for her by Washington Republicans not named Jim DeMintt.

On another note, I have a message for Mike Castle and the rest of any other Washington Republicans and establishment types thumbing their noses at the likes of Joe Miller and O’Donnell.  Well, the real message is not RedState appropriate, so the nicer one is to go fly a kite.

For far too many elections, you have tried to silence us.  We’ve been expected to tone down our rhetoric about those pesky social issues, be nice to a President who has no interest in bipartisanship, stop thinking that people care about spending, and to shut up about the border because we need to get the Hispanic vote.  After all of this, conservatives are expected to lick their wounds after defeat, show unity, endorse the primary winner, and be the “party guy” or the “team player” with no or very little reciprocation.

I’ve had it with you and your kind; your actions by firs trying to drag her name through a septic tank and now acting like a little child who is picking up their toys and crying all the way home show some things about your true character.  You’re not, nor have you ever been the party guy that us conservatives have been.  This also shows that you haven’t been in this for the party, or for the people for that matter.  You’re only concerned with keeping your taxpayer funded job, everyone else be damned.

I was initially bothered by your lack of endorsement for O’Donnell, but at this point, I can think of stray dogs that have higher standing than you.  Have fun looking for a real job.

What the Hell is Happening in Nevada?

From CNN:

Jon Ralston, host of “Face to Face,” used Thursday’s broadcast as a platform to air a grievance with Angle after a campaign spokesman canceled a debate that her deputy campaign manager had agreed to only hours before.

“Earlier today Sharron Angle’s campaign agreed to accept our invitation to debate Harry Reid on ‘Face to Face’ in an hour-long live broadcast from Reno on October 21st. Within hours of Reid accepting, Angle’s campaign called to say, well, its backing out now,” Ralston said.

Look, I’m as excited and optimistic as the next guy about the 2010 midterms, but what’s going on in Nevada?  Harry Reid’s seat should be a slam dunk.  He’s the party leader in the Senate, he’s pushed through a lot of the unpopular Obama agenda items, and his approval rating is lower than Biden’s IQ (which is pretty darn low, as we all know).  So why is Angle trailing in the polls now?  And more importantly, why is she backing out of debates after hearing her talk about doing “real” debates and “real” interviews.

I know it’s the strategy of the mainstream media to attack our candidates and make them seem extreme and stupid, but Angle’s starting to worry me.  I never hear her on Rush, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, or Laura Ingraham’s radio shows.  She’s never on FOX.  Is she even doing local interviews?  If she’s not, what the hell is she waiting for?

Taking liberal seats, including Reid’s, is a national project.  I’ve donated money to other candidates outside of Nebraska, but I’m seriously doubting contributing anything to her.  Is this race that conservatives outside of Nevada can take seriously anymore?

If Angle can prove me wrong, I’ll gladly shut up and give her the same amount I’ve been able to contribute to other candidates in tight races.  But she needs to show us something,  Right now with this latest incident and her trailing in most polls that are coming out in a race that should be this easy really make me doubt her validity.

Flame away!

Ben Nelson Begins his Makeover to Try to Save his Job

Meet Ben Nelson (D-NE), fiscally conservative Democrat.

At least that what he wants Nebraska voters to think.

No doubt, Ben Nelson will use his “no” vote on unemployment benefits extension when he runs again in 2012.  The reason he voted against extending benefits?

From CNN.com:

In this week’s votes, Nelson insisted that Democrats find a way to pay for the extension of benefits. He said there are some stimulus funds that could be used — an idea that Republicans back.

So, all of a sudden Ben Nelson, just want to stress D-NE, is concerned about yet another entitlement bill having no money to pay for it?  Wow; I remember it like it was practically yesterday that he sold out Cornhusker State voters as the result of a kickback in order to vote for Obamacare.  As I recall, we didn’t have any money to pay for that, either…..wait a minute, we’ll be raising taxes to pay for that, so it doesn’t matter.  He also voted for the stimulus bill, and we had money to pay for that, right?

Look, this guys is far from a fiscal conservative.  Did you know that your tax payer funded dollars went to pay for parking at a museum here in Omaha once?  Nelson also has a rating of 5 from Citizens Against Government Waste from 2008 and a lifetime rating of 18.  He makes Russ Feingold look like Jim DeMint.

We’re not swayed, Senator.  You didn’t vote against this bill because of spending concerns.  After all there were a couple of Republican votes, which saved you from having to support the bill.  You managed to fool the citizens of Nebraska here long enough.  Beginning in 2012, you’re officially unemployed.

While John Kerry Wants you to Pay Higher Taxes, he Finds a Way to Avoid Paying $500,000……in Taxes!

I remember the 2004 election like it was the day before yesterday (with the 2008 election being yesterday).  Remember how John Kerry and his liberal supporters were unhinged at the jaw about the Bush’s “tax cuts for the wealthy?”  That’s an argument we’ll here for many years now, and the GOP will long be labeled as the “rich person’s party,” but this might interest those that vote Democrat mainly on the issue of “fairness.”

From the Boston Herald:

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Exactly how much in taxes is explained later on…..

Could the reason be that the Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven – like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau – for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?

Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.

To quote one of the famous lines from the movie Airplane!; “Surely, you can’t be serious!”

The senior senator’s chief of staff David Wade denied the old salt was berthing his boat out of state to avoid ponying up to the commonwealth.

“The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it’s based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long-term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes, not tax reasons,” Wade told the Track

So, it’s all explained.  No further explanation needed, right?  There’s no possible way this should be an issue for any other Taxachusetts, I mean Massachusetts politicians, right?

But back in 2006, then-gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihostook some flack for avoiding some $23,000 in Bay State sales tax and $1,320 in local excise taxes by berthing his motor yacht in Rhode Island. But Mihos paid just $475,000 for his 36-foot vessel Ashleyand readily admitted that he used the boat at his West Yarmouth summer home

Would it shock you to learn that Mihos was a Republican?

John Kerry is not the latest Massachusetts Democratic senator to skip out on taxes; the late Ted Kennedy, another champion of trying to make sure the rich pay their “fair share,” is pretty well known for amassing wealth and stashing the money in offshore accounts…..all to avoid paying taxes on them.

I wonder how Kerry will be affected by the tax hikes that will be effective on January 1st, 2011, at 12:00:01; he wants YOU to pay your fair share, but will make sure he passes through Rhode Island to make sure that he won’t have to.

Your Taxpayer Dollars Hard at Work…to Fly Bo to Maine?

I’m a dog lover; I have a seven month old black lab puppy that our entire family has fallen in love with.  He never leaves our sides and I can’t really imagine life without him as part of our family.  I know the vast majority of dog owners feel the same way about their four legged friends.  With all that being said, I found an article through Drudge that made me laugh when I read this line:

Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president’s personal aide Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci.

Seriously?  Bo had to fly in on his own jet?  Look, I’m not really that upset about the Obamas taking a weekend off as some other people are, but flying your dog in on a seperate jet at our expense is ridiculous.  Want to take the weekend off?  Whatever.  Bring your dog with you?  Absolutely.  Fly him in on a seperate jet where the American people are footing the bill when you’ve already bankrupted my kids and future grandchildren?  Plain stupid.

But, was it fair to expect anything less from this President?

PS-The only consolation to this story was to see that the country’s “First Dookie,” Reggie Love, had to fly on the plane with the dog.  As a lifelong Tar Heel fan, I think it’s fitting that Love has been relegated to being Bo’s……well, nevermind.  =)

So, What’s YOUR Obesity Rating?

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said that the healthcare bill needed to be passed so we can all find out what’s in it?  Well, get ready for this one.  From CNSNews.com:

CNSNews.com) – New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records–that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year–must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.

The obesity-rating regulation states that every American’s electronic health record must: “Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patient’s height and weight.”

And it gets better….it seems that your own personal business regarding your waistline will be available for everyone to see:

The law also requires that these electronic health records be available–with appropriate security measures–on a national exchange

Remember when the liberals were railing against Bush about the PATRIOT act?  Remember how the ACLU was terrified about the fact that, somehow, picking up chatter about terrorist attacks was illegal and an invasion of our privacy?  Well, now that my “obesity rating” will be on a national exchange of electronic health records, I’d like to ask the ACLU where the hell they are now.

I was about to ask why such information would need to be made available on a national exchange, but if you’re gonna have to ration care, then I guess Uncle Sam needs to know how big my waistline is now.

I’ve sent an e-mail to Senator Cornhusker Kickback Ben Nelson to see how he feels about this; did he know that such a ridiculous provision was in the healthcare bill, or was he so worried about securing pork goodies to save his rear in 2012 to know that his constiuents’ (as well as the citizens of the United States) true privacy are being violated?

Doubt I’ll get a response……..

Obama Hits the Links on the Day of Kaczynski’s Funeral for 32nd Round of Golf….Outrage, Anyone?

I have no problem with President Obama not flying to Poland because of the volcanic ash situation.  I won’t claim to be a scientist on the matter like Al Gore would, won’t claim to say the ash cloud wouldn’t affect an airplane, and wouldn’t say missing the funeral because of the situation is thumbing his nose yet again at our allies.  However, there is one aspect to this story that I take issue with very seriously.

Evidently, President Obama decided it was a good time to play some golf.  Cancel attending an ally’s funeral, play some golf.  Seems fitting, right?  I mean, we wouldn’t want to show any signs of solidarity or anything with one of our allies in a troubling area of the world when they bury their leader.  Hell, he couldn’t even make it to the Polish Embassy to sign a book offering condolences.  When you have a President (and an entire Democrat party) that is always worried about our “image” to the world, how does all of this look?

Anytime President Bush stepped foot on a golf course, went to Crawford for a weekend, or even went for a bike ride we had to hear about how “insensitive” he was that he was playing golf/enjoying himself while our soldiers were at war.  We also heard these ridiculous things like Bush was on vacation 70% of the time that he was President.  Now, Obama has played his 32nd round of golf since his occupation of the White House.  I’m lucky if I get out six times a year, and I don’t have a country to run.  Bush, on the other hand, played 24 times in eight years, and stopped playing in 2003 when he received word of an attack.

A classless act by a classless man.  I suppose asking when the outrage from the Bush critics is coming will be pointless.

Ben Nelson Finally Caves….

From FOXNews.com

WASHINGTON – With a self-imposed Christmas deadline at stake, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid engineered a last-minute compromise that has won the support of the lone Democratic holdout and clinched the required 60 votes to pass a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health care system.

Marathon negotiations with the White House and Senate Democratic leaders produced fresh concessions that will mean additional abortion restrictions in the legislation.

Democratic leaders also offered Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska a deal similar to the $300 million in Medicaid aid Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana got for her support, numerous sources told Fox News.

When asked about this, Sen. Kent Conrad, a key Democratic leader involved in the negotiations with Nelson, said, “Oh, it’ll be much more.”

So, Ben Nelson had his vote bought for around $300 million, and Kent Conrad brags about it being much more?  I hate to say “I told you so” to you RedStaters that thought Nelson was solid through this process, but I told you so.  Nelson’s vote is always up for sale; he’s made that evident in the past.  He also had the nerve to go on the radio shows here in Nebraska earlier this week and expressed anger that there were rumors that his vote was “up for sale.”  Now we know the truth.

With that, Ben Nelson has officially sealed his fate for another term in Nebraska.  There were enough of us here angry enough after he voted to move the healthcare debacle forward, but he’s officially turned a deaf ear to his constituents, all in the name of limiting profits on insurance companies (who have given him a boatload of money over the years) and language that allows for states to disallow coverage on abortion.

So, we’ve limited how much money a company can make, and he can claim to be pro-life to Nebraskans, even though he’ll go to sleep at night knowing that other states will allow abortions.  Can this lying weasel even claim to be pro-life anymore?  I think not……

This is why a Democrat, even though he labels himself as a “conservative,” “moderate,” or “Blue Dog” cannot be trusted.  They must all be voted out of office for our own sake!

A Great Thanksgiving Story

FOX ran this story.  I know it’s not political, but it’s a touching story, as a celebrity/sports star did a truly remarkable thing for a family he doesn’t even know.

Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl because he was moved by the tragic story of her kidnapping and murder.

We’ve all head in the news about Shaniya Davis, a five year old that was kidnapped and murdered in North Carolina.  Her own mother and another detestable human being are charged in the crime.  It’s a truly sad story, but the fact that a celebrity like Shaq can pony up and pay for this little angel’s funeral is a great story for Thanksgiving.

I’m no fan of Shaq on the basketball court, but he’s definitely got my respect and support as a human being.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
