A Marine Worthy of Our Support for Governor of New Mexico

Colonel Allen Weh is a retired Marine, and successful businessman, worthy of our support in his “hard charging” run for Governor of New Mexico. Weh has been running a strong grass roots ground campaign via his bus tour of the state. A recent Rasmussen poll showed that Weh, running in the Republican primary among 4 other candidates, is one of two Republicans within 10 points of the incumbent Lt. Governor and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Diane Denish. Denish has been in office for almost 8 years as Lt. Governor.

Weh, a highly decorated Marine Corps Colonel, was awarded the Silver Star for bravery after he and his recon team accomplished a difficult reconnaissance mission in the Vietnam War. Weh was badly wounded in combat during the action but returned to Vietnam for a second tour of duty. While serving in Vietnam, he received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with “V” for Heroism, three Purple Hearts, and other awards. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve until 2004, being recalled for the Persian Gulf War and seeing deployments to Somalia and Iraq.”

Weh, the CEO of CSI Aviation Services, Inc. a 31-year old company founded by he and his wife, says, “New Mexicans are looking for a seasoned leader to get the job done and turn this state right-side up, and they tell me they are tired of career politicians. I couldn’t agree with them more… I’ve run a business, led Marines in combat, raised a family and given back what I can to my country and to the state of New Mexico. I have time for one more tour of duty, and this time I’m asking the voters to send me to Santa Fe, so that we can change the way business is done there and put people back to work.”

Weh, a conservative, who has never run for political office, concerning the recent health care reform legislation stated, “And you better believe that as your governor, I will fight every day until this bill is overturned.” The New Mexico Republican primary election is on June 1st, 2010.

Shall Christians Vote?

Should Christians vote? The Scripture states that God has established the governing authorities (Rom 13:1). Thus, whether those authorities are wicked men such as Pharaoh and Saul; and history indicates that most of them are; or whether they are men of God, such as Joseph and David; God is the one who places them in positional authority.

Christians are commanded to submit themselves to the governing authorities, and hence to obey the laws of the land. We are further commanded to be good stewards over all that God has placed in our lives. This undoubtedly extends to good citizenship. Jesus set the example of good citizenship, as reflected in Matthew 17:24-27 where He, acting to preempt any cause for offense, paid the customary tax due to the government. The Scripture states that Christians are to “Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.” (Romans 13:7)

God has blessed this nation with, as President Abraham Lincoln stated, “government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” In effect, God has given us the blessing of “self-government.” If Jesus paid taxes, heeding the customs of the land, shall Christians not heed a lesser custom in this land, that being, to joyfully and wisely exercise the privilege and right to vote?

If in the wisdom of God, He has chosen to install government in this nation by means of a democratic process, are not the citizens, including Christians the implements of the will of God? Are we not fellow workers with God? Shall we, as commanded, pray for the governing authorities and yet not participate in the customary process through which they are installed? Shall Christians today not admonish governmental leaders in the manner of John the Baptist toward Herod? (Matthew 14:4) Shall sinful leaders not be subjected to admonishment by the expression of principled support or disdain through the vote? Shall Christians not be stewards of the nation which God has chosen according to His wisdom as the present home of the Gospel? Shall we insult the Spirit of grace by failing to shine light in every vestige of society – including the institutions of government which God has providentially stationed in our hands? Shall we be less responsible citizens than those who do not know God? As Paul says, “May it never be!”

There are those who may rightly assert that we are in this world, but not of it; and therefore we should disavow ourselves from interaction with the lost. Yet, this is the antithesis of the teaching of the Apostle. He explicitly explains our position and the nature of our interaction with the lost, stating in 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.”

Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners. He came to seek and save those who are lost. Shall we do less today? Shall we separate ourselves from those in need of the great physician? Are we not ambassadors for Christ, charged with the great commission? Indeed God has given us the ministry of reconciliation, and we are admonished to take heed to the ministry that we have received in the Lord that we may fulfill it. Accordingly, we cannot separate ourselves from the lost in this world, nor this nation. As the venerate 19th century revivalist Charles G. Finney warned:

“God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are a part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God. It seems sometimes as if the foundations of the nation are becoming rotten, and Christians seem to act as if they think God does not see what they do in politics. But I tell you He does see it, and He will bless or curse this nation, according to the course they take.”

Some may question whether Finney’s conclusion is grounded upon truth. Indeed the Scripture most certainly affirms his assertion. Recall that the Scripture states that “God does not hear sinners. But if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.” (John 9:31) Hence, Christians, by their authority as the purchased possession of the living God, through the shed blood and death of Christ, are the only people on earth who have the right to intercede on behalf of the nation, and to petition Almighty God for His mercy and grace. In fact, we are invited and admonished to come boldly to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Shall we not approach His throne as in the manner of Abraham, asking God to withhold judgment upon the nation for the sake of the righteous dwelling therein? (Genesis 18:22-32) And if we shall intercede with prayer and petition, shall we not be participants, and moreover, the very implements of the grace that He desires to bestow according to His will? Recall that faith without works is dead. Therefore we must act in accordance with our petitions, as brother Finney counsels.

Interestingly enough, several years ago, in June 2004, then Mayor of Maywood, IL, Ralph Conner, called upon Christians to act on behalf of the nation stating:

“We in our troubled country need a higher degree of morality than Government can provide. We need more morality than the politicians can provide. When the 10 Commandments are removed from the courthouse; when prayer is taken out of schools; politicians are gelded. What page one should be warning us is, that the Christian imperative is now entirely up to you church people; your leaders; your members; our hands are tied. You have to do what we cannot do; or else our country will be no match for terrorists.”

The Mayor’s bold and distressed plea, recognizing the futility of reliance upon politicians and government to address the internal and external threats facing the nation, absent profound intervention by the body of Christ, incisively reflects the perspective which should be resonating within the Christian community.

In a practical sense, voting for public office candidates may seemingly pose a challenge for Christians. Notwithstanding, any challenge is negated by the application of relevant Biblical principles. First, Christians must not judge by appearances. All judgments must be based upon facts and honest assessment. Accordingly, Christians must remain neutral in relation to political parties. This is not to be construed as asserting that Christians cannot belong to a political party. It is merely a recognition that political parties and platforms are not sources of authority for the Christian. The final authority on all matters in life is the word of God; and no philosophy or doctrine can be permitted to supersede the commandments and Biblical principles. Second, we cannot support immoral attitudes, behavior, or policy positions. Thus, only honest men and women, not the deceitful, nor adulterers, nor alcohol or substance abusers can be endorsed. Third, we must support those who will rule in accordance with God’s precepts. This is not to be interpreted as meaning that those who seek or serve in public office must be Christians, as God has established no such mandate. Yet, petitions should be made on their behalf, that perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth. In respect to those public officials who steadfastly refuse to heed God’s precepts in the discharge of their official duties, petition God for their removal. His mercy, while enduring, is not indefinite.

So, shall we vote? In short, Christians have a moral obligation, by word and deed, to engage in good citizenship, which extends to expressing the truth and principles of God through voting, and active participation in the nation’s electoral and governing process.

A Nation’s Foundation

During his 1st Inaugural Address, Abraham Lincoln said, “Intelligence, patriotism, Christianity, and a firm reliance on Him who has never yet forsaken this favored land are still competent to adjust in the best way all our present difficulty.”

Friends, we must stop allowing the denigration and removal of Christianity in this country. As Andrew Jackson said, “The Bible is the Rock on which this Republic rests.” It was Christianity which influenced and shaped the foundational principles of this nation; its form of government; and its major institutions. As Charles Spurgeon said, “Where there is Protestantism, there is liberty.”

We have no established state religion, as we have individual freedom of religion. Nonetheless, we cannot and will not survive as a free people apart from the influence of Christian doctrine in our society. Liberals continually attack Christianity, and they wish to remove it from the culture and the nation, and replace it with secular humanism and socialism – and to a significant extent they have succeeded. Even Christians have become hesitant to utter “Merry Christmas” during the Christmas season to avoid the largely perceived possibility of offending someone.

We must be ever mindful that it is Christian doctrine which supports individual rights, equal opportunity, personal responsibility, and accountability for one’s actions. It is Christian doctrine which is the basis of free-enterprise capitalism, the most equitable and prosperous type of economic system the world has ever known. It is Christian doctine which recognizes personhood in the womb, and thus mandates the protection of innocent life.

Whether an indivdual is a Christian is between each man and woman, and Almighty God. But this nation, the most blessed nation in world history, will not survive if it removes the only firm, and enduring foundation, the Everlasting Rock. As George Washington said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality and indispensable supports.” In effect, he agreed with Benjamin Franklin’s statement at the Constitutional Convention, to wit: ”We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that ’except the Lord build they labor in vain who build it.’”

Time for A New Birth of Freedom

Well, it appears that we may be at the crossroads. Either this nation will be one nation under God, or become a nation under men. Time for choosing permanent sides – no more middle ground. Either you believe in state control of the people, or you believe in liberty and individual rights.

The Framers knew what they stood for and why; Abraham Lincoln knew as well; as did John Kennedy; and Ronald Reagan. Either we begin to elect statesmen, or we descend into the annuls of history. This nation is still ruled by the people. The people have one last chance if this bill passes – Election Day November 2010.

I know quite well that most of you are patriots. The time to start planning and steeling ourselves for the battle ahead is today. Get behind conservative candidates now, by donating your time and money. Never trust anyone who does not speak in plain language. Too many Americans were charmed by Clinton and most recently Obama. We can no longer elect dishonest, self-serving people to public office – at any level of government. The consequences of doing so are now laid bare.

The term “liberal” used to mean support for equality of opportunity and access. Now it has been redefined to mean state-control and socialism. The term ”conservative” now means support for equality of opportunity and access for all. Conservative means “common sense” or “prudence” or “wisdom.” We must henceforth call a “spade” a “spade;” and a “duck” a “duck.” A “progressive” is a “liberal,” and nothing else. We must not be confused or submit to politically expedient lexicon. Even the Democrats who will vote against this government intrustion and takeover, are only doing so out of fear of losing their congressional seats. If there had been no uprising from you, this takeover would have occurred last summer.

Folks as you know, our very liberty is now at great risk; greater than from previous outside forces, because this enemy is within, and among us. These liberals will reduce the United States to the status of a third world country. They are deceived into thinking that they can create utopia on earth by reducing the United States to equal or lesser economic and military power than other nations; and this is their objective. A weakened United States cannot defend our sacred liberty. Even now, Russia and China are seeking to exploit the oil resources in our own back yard, while we do not. This is the precipice to them entering our hemisphere in a strategic manner which will threaten our security. We must not bankrupt our nation if it is to survive.

It is up to us now. The liberals have struck at Pearl Harbor. They have invaded the culture; the school system; the financial and banking system; the auto industry; and the health care system. Their next target will be the energy sector.

The time to strike back at Tokyo must begin now; and we must be relentless in our offensive. Please do not despair. As Lincoln said on the occasion of his 2nd Inaugural Address, “Intelligence, patriotism, Christianity, and a firm reliance upon Him who has never yet forsaken this favored land are still competent to adjust in the best way all our present difficulty.” We will meet and defeat this threat no matter how long or difficult the road ahead, with belief in each other; our values; our history; and the same firm reliance upon Him as the signers of the Declaration, and Abraham Lincoln. Today, we must begin anew; with a new birth of freedom. I can smell it in the air; smells like victory. Let’s get after it!

Reconciliation – Smoke and Mirrors

If the House Democrats who originally voted “no” on Health Care Reform, are sold by the President on changing their vote to “yes,” with the understanding that the bill will be sent to the Senate to “fix” it, they are being sold a multi-trillion dolllar bill of goods!

Why would the President, whose centerpiece of his presidency is health care reform, pursue a “fix” in the Senate under Reconciliation, when all he needs to do to have government controlled health care is to simply sign the bill passed by the House, given that the bill would have already passed both houses of Congress? In fact, Senator Kent Conrad, wrote on Saturday in the Washington Post, “Reconciliation is not being considered for passing comprehensive health-care reform. Major health-care reform legislation passed the Senate without reconciliation on Christmas Eve. If the House now passes that legislation, it can go immediately to President Obama’s desk to be signed into law. The Wall Street Journal corroborates this view today, stating:

“After all, the White House would much prefer the Senate bill, because by its lights the cost-control programs are tougher than what the House prefers. And from a political perspective, a bill that can be signed immediately and that the press will portray as an historic achievement is far better than the drawn-out and gory battle that would be reconciliation. Republican Senators will have many procedural knives at their disposal, and the process will force Democrats to cast further votes and spend more months debating a deeply unpopular bill.

While some House Democrats would be furious, they’d soon be defending the Senate bill by necessity against the GOP. The moderates who vote for it might be collateral damage, but the White House has already concluded that this is the price of building its cradle-to-grave entitlement citadel.”

However, Speaker Pelosi, of course, could simply send the Bill, passed by both the House and Senate, to the President – and the President need not sign it, as any bill sent to the President which he does not sign or veto, becomes law after 10 days.

This is ‘Chicago-style” politics! And President Obama has said repeatedly, that if he can be an effective one-term president, that is acceptable as opposed to being a two-term president. He will do this; and so will Speaker Pelosi. They will sacrifice everything, including a few of their own House members, to take control of health care in America.

NOW is the time folks. We are at the moment of truth for America’s future. Why isn’t some prominent Republican politician, or conservative media figure, calling for a march on Washington to save this country from socialized medicine, and a financial catastrophe?

Averting Doom

I must say as a Christian, today’s developments, though gravely disappointing, and grievous, are not surprising. As we all know, most of our elected representatives, are ruled by their own self-serving interests, and not that of the public good. Our citizens do not trust elected leaders for good reason – evidentiary corruption.

This nation, as we all can plainly see, is on the verge of potentially irreversible calamity. I do not see any hope apart from the message I have recently posted to the thousands of Christian pastors in America today; who I am respectfully, ashamed to acknowledge, have remained largely silent about matters of national governance and politics – to the national detriment of the nation. The framers, before and during the Revolution, relied upon the strong preaching of the prominent pastors of the day, including Dr. Jonathan Mayhew, Reverend Charles Chauncy; and the Reverend George Whitefield; and many others. Today, the nation has lost its moral moorings; and has now set sail, and is adrift toward self-imposed destruction.

My friends, as a Christian, I love God, and the Lord Jesus Christ; and having been blessed to be born an American, I have an unspeakable love for our nation and all of its people. Socialism, as anyone who understands basic economics knows, has never worked; and it cannot work, because it is simply not God’s way. No one is entitled to the fruit of someone else’s labor; each person must bear his own load; and you reap only what you sow. Violating the laws of God has consequences for individuals and nations. We are witnessing the consequences of the efforts to replace the moral law upon which this nation was founded, with the wisdom of men; the consequences thereof, a nation in decline and headed toward doom.

I am not a pessimist, nor optimist; but rather a realist. America’s demise is not inevitable at this time, as God grants opportunity for repentance and restoration until the time of judgment; yet its future lies in our collective hands. President Kennedy’s inaugural words seem so poignant at this time, wherein he stated, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

For anyone interested in perusing the open letter I have recently, and respectfully, written to Christian pastors, please click-on the link below. In effect, it is clarion call for action to save the nation from its impending peril. Blessings to you all ~

A Street Fight

For some reason, the Republican politicians seem oblivious to the fact that they are in a “street fight.” The Democratic politicians have had the gloves off for several years now. Why is it the Republicans seem ever so timid in this fight? They are almost always on the defensive, and never on offense. Reagan was always on the offense. He called a spade a spade. The Republicans today are even afraid to call the liberals, liberals! Don’t they understand that the liberals don’t want to be called liberals for a reason – the reason being that they know that their version of liberalism is basically socialism. Only Hippies used to believe in socialism. But now this has become mainstream liberal ideology, even though it doesn’t work and cannot work. They do not stand for traditional American values. They do not believe in American “Exceptionalism.” They do not believe that there is evil in the world; and that the only thing that separates us from that evil are the courageous men and women wearing our nation’s uniform, that is, in plain language, a big gun, and the willingness to use it in an uncompromising manner whenever necessary. They do not believe in free enterprise economics, and capitalism, because that means everyone must take personal responsibility for their life circumstances – regardles of where you start. It’s easier to blame someone than to persevere until you accomplish your goals. Fortunately, some men and women decided not to blame anyone; men like Frederick Douglas. Read his speech entitled the “Self-made Man.”

Liberals believe that government is the answer. Government has never been the answer. Men and women of moral character have always been the answer. The government now has the country broke and begging the Chinese communists to keep loaning us money. Just imagine, the President of the United States, now begs a communist dictator for money! That’s real change. The government has bankrupted Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Fannie, Freddie, the Post Office, Amtrak, and now the liberals want someone to believe that they can somehow manage the entire health care system for 300 million of us. This would be laughable, if it wasn’t so serious.

Liberal philosophy used to mean equality and justice for all, and equal opportunity to pursue your dreams. Now it means collectivism, redistribution of someone else’s money, and government intrusion into what is rightfully individual rights. Liberals do not believe in the founding principles of this country, and would prefer to replace them with something else. Liberals reject absolute truths, like the ones articulated in the Declaration, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. It’s the “Creator” part that they have problems with today. Yet, the Framers had no problem with that, recognizing that these rights, and liberty were blessings, and blessings only come from above, not from men.

So, Republicans, when are you going to step up to the fight against the liberals who are obviously determined to subordinate the United States to a bunch of other nations who have no interests in promoting liberty, and individual rights? They have already destroyed the largest state in the Union, California, which is bankrupt; and now they are aggressively taking the rest of the country in the same direction – over the cliff! The nation will be a giant step closer to that cliff on Saturday when the liberals in the US Senate attempt to impose a government takeover of our health care. So if you have not called an e-mailed your Senators, the moment of truth has arrived. Either America moves closer to the abyss or it takes a step back. I have already called, e-mailed, and have been encouraging others to do likewise for months. If you love this country, you best do likewise – now!
