Life Fest Film Festival to Honor Martin Sheen with 2012 Spirit of Life Award!
A Psychological Cry for Moral Help
As we go about our lives, there is something happening around us that is not deemed “newsworthy” or “important” by many people. It’s toxic, troubling, and traumatic. It’s happening on college campuses. It’s happening next door to you. It’s the white elephant in the room that everybody notices, but does not want to address for countless reasons. It’s what our generation praises and feels empowered by, but refuses to let their parents know about. And shockingly enough, it’s happening at conservative conferences thanks to people who do not practice what they preach.
So what is it? It’s the hookup culture. For too long, it has been discarded and discounted as a criticism of “crazy social conservative Puritans” who are intolerant of “privacy” and not accepting of “free love.” Even on our side of the political fence, supposed “conservatives” have called it “inevitable” and have accepted it, even if they claim to be religious.
So if this is not “newsworthy,” why bother addressing it? Well, it is “newsworthy,” because it is always daily news for most college students. And guess what? It’s affecting everybody in our generation, because it is ruining the potential for life-long love that we all aspire to have. With each hookup a person experiences, a little piece of their heart metaphorically chips off, which leaves them more prone to divorce in the future.
Hooking up is defined as a sexual encounter “between two people who are not dating or in a serious relationship and do not expect anything further.” It lacks commitment, is highly based upon impulse, and commonly involves alcohol and small talk. Sounds like romantic, sappy love from The Notebook, eh?
A study from Princeton University found that before hooking up, “girls expect emotional involvement almost twice as often as guys” and “guys…are in part motivated by hopes of improving their social reputation, or of bragging about their exploits to friends the next day.” After hooking up, the study found that “91% of girls admit to having feelings of regret, at least occasionally” and “80% of girls wish the hook-up hadn’t happened.”
As psychiatrist Dr. Miriam Grossman points out, female college students are emotionally drained from a hookup due to high oxytocin levels. Generally, the hormone oxytocin is released during sexual intercourse to promote attachment. Its impact, Dr. Grossman points out, explains why female college students easily ignore “partner’s faults, and…take risks [they] otherwise wouldn’t.” As a result, Dr. Grossman concludes that female college students who engage in the hookup culture easily find themselves longing for a relationship with the random guy that used them for sex last night.
Seeing how the hookup culture is responsible for the rise of STD’s and psychological distress, why would any young person want to suffer from such awful repercussions? Factors such as the breakdown of the family unit and the influence of raging moral relativist leftists explain why many young people find the hookup culture to be “fun” and “liberating.”
First of all, the breakdown of the family unit has created a common situation in which young people are disconnected from their parents and thus rebel against them. By choosing to hook up with random strangers, young people are essentially trying to find love in others that was absent in their households. This explains, for example, why young women who have divorced parents are more likely to hookup in college than young women who have married parents and intact families.
Secondly, the impact of moral relativist leftists on our culture since the 1960’s is also responsible for this new devastating sexual revolution. By influencing young women through campus Women’s Centers, leftists have legitimized the prominence of casual sex as the new norm. By creating shows like Jersey Shore and The Real World, leftists have influenced young people to liberate themselves from “evil Judeo-Christian values” that are part of our nation’s foundation.
Since the hookup culture has been perpetuated by the Left, why, you may ask, would it be connected with conservative conferences like CPAC? Aren’t these conferences free from such Leftist ideology? Well, guess again. Plenty of young women who call themselves “conservative” attend CPAC boasting the latest pair of hooker heels and short skirts, hoping to go home with a lovely stranger later in the night. And the worse part of it all is when they claim to be religious, donning a cross necklace with a revealing blouse. Likewise, there are plenty of young men who are equally guilty for partaking in such behavior as well.
Why should these young women and men be let off the hook? Aren’t they just as guilty as the liberal young women and men who love hooking up? Instead of dismissing their actions, these people should be held accountable for their actions and should be exposed for their faux “conservative values.” Being conservative is not about picking and choosing what to believe in. Being conservative means practicing and preaching all of its principles, including its core traditional values.
As the next generation of future parents and people who will start families, we must stop this toxic culture from further ruining the potential for life-long love that we all truly desire in life. It’s time to talk about the white elephant that is plaguing college campuses and is responsible for devastating the lives of many young men and women. If Kelly Clarkson was able to condemn the hookup culture, so could we.

What’s Airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “Life Fest Film Festival: Outside the Box”
The beginning of today’s Pro-Life Perspective is so good I would like to quote the entire first two paragraphs of PLP Host and NRLC President Carol Tobias presentation.
“Throughout history, the best stories, the best films, have always followed the arc of an individual, often small and ‘insignificant.’ The individual is faced with a daunting challenge, opposed by forces much great, much stronger, and much meaner. Yet despite pitfalls and sometimes insurmountable odds, that one individual goes on to change their world and the world of all around him or her. All good stories focus on the incredible significance of one solitary life. No greater issue fits that bill than the one that transcends all other concerns and interest: the value and significance and worth of each individual human life. It’s rare, however, that the true nature of that issue gets shared, especially in mainstream filmmaking.
“Most of us are familiar with the Sun Dance Film Festival in Utah and the Cannes Film Festival in France. Rarely, if ever, do films presented at these festivals tell stories which promote the value and dignity of human life. In fact, films like that have never really had a place to grow and develop…until now. Over the first weekend in May, the second annual Life Fest Film Festival will take place in Hollywood, California. The event is presented in part by our state affiliate, the California Pro-Life Council.”
Mrs. Tobias uses the remainder of her broadcast found at www.prolifeperspective.com to show what sets Life Fest apart from festivals like Sun Dance or Cannes: in a word it is dedicated to showcasing films that reinforce the intrinsic worth of innocent human life and the profound significance of each life.
Life Fest has a bold agenda: to dramatically impact the future of American storytelling. How? By “encouraging the developing of such films within the current Hollywood community, and by encouraging the bevy of developing and aspiring filmmakers to make a difference,” Mrs. Tobias says. “The Life Fest is designed to unify the very diverse – and oftentimes adversarial – people within the Hollywood community and the community of film fans at large, in a common concern for the uniqueness of each and every human life.”

Sperm Donor Daddy: The Breakdown of Society
On September 12, 2011, Style Exposed aired a program called “Sperm Donor”, which features 33-year old Ben Siesler, a man who has fathered 74 children. When he was in law school at George Mason University, he donated to a local sperm bank for three years and never knew he fathered so many children until recently. For each month he donated his sperm, he received $900. Throughout the documentary, he has trouble telling his fiancée Lauren about his 74 children, while they both discuss wedding plans and the possibility of having children of their own in the near future.
After finding out about the amount of children he has from the Donor Sibling Registry, Ben decides to contact the families who have reached out to him. So far, 15 of his children have personally contacted him from the Registry, but in the documentary, he only meets two of his biological children, a boy and girl born from a single mother. Finding out that Ben will be visiting them, Ben’s biological daughter asks her mother if she and Ben will be breaking up, since Ben will be marrying another woman. Clearly, his daughter is sad that she does not have a father by her side and lacks a stable nuclear family unit.
When asked about his experience meeting two of his biological children, Ben said that “It was kind of wild. On the one hand, these kids are biologically my kids. On the other hand, they are not my kids. I didn’t raise them. I have no control over how they are raised.” Despite how truthful Ben’s statements are, it is a shame to see that the sperm donor industry enables single mothers to create “families” out of their own self-interest and that psychologically damages the children that are born into such households.
In addition, “Sperm Donor” also features two half-sisters, one born in Kansas and the other born in Arizona, who both have Ben as their father. After meeting virtually on the Registry, Adrienne decides to fly out to Arizona to surprise her half-sister Karis for her senior prom. While in Arizona, Adrienne discusses the importance of getting to know all of her half-siblings and having all of them unite to become one big family. Adrienne’s exact sentiments convey how the sperm donor industry is responsible for breaking up the stability of the traditional family unit by separating biological siblings into numerous families that only feature one biological parent.
Essentially, programs like “Sperm Donor” are normalizing the unethical effects of the sperm donor industry and are continually perpetuating the moral decay of our society. By restructuring the traditional family unit and the two-parent heterosexual model, the sperm donor industry is purposefully changing America’s definition of a stable society and thus is ultimately hurting the children conceived from such a system.
However, there is hope that the abuses of the sperm donor industry will halt. Recently, The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network released a film called Anonymous Father’s Day, which features adults searching for their biological fathers and calling for the end of the very system that conceived them.
In the trailer, one woman asks “Should we be conceiving children in the first place who will be deliberately denied the ability to know, and be known by, their father?” Another woman states that she wants “…her children to know where they came from.” Such statements convey both the unethical and emotionally damaging nature of anonymous sperm donations.
The truth about this industry is being told, but will such an immoral practice that could potentially lead to the rise of incest and genetic disorders be deterred soon? We have yet to find out.

LOS ANGELES – Today, organizers of the Life Fest Film Festival, the premiere showcase for films that honor the value of human life and the unique importance of each life, announced that actor/producer Martin Sheen will receive the 2012 Spirit of Life Award. Now in its second year, the Festival will be held May 5-6, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
which he co-starred with his son and the film’s director, Emilio Estevez, has been nominated for Best Film. According to the film’s website: “THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage “The Way of St. James” to honor his son’s desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn’t plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and oftentimes amusing experiences along “The Way,” Tom discovers the difference between “the life we live and the life we choose.”
