Rudy Giuliani on ABC: Purpose of Trump Tower Meeting Was to Get Dirt on Hillary

You’re welcome, for the picture.

Rudy Giuliani shed a little light on the famed Trump Tower meeting on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday: the original purpose of the gathering was to collect information on your very favorite presidential candidate of all time: Hillary “We Came, We Saw, He Died, *Cackle*” Clinton:

“The meeting was originally for the purpose of getting information about Clinton.”

Host Chuck Todd went full-collusion:

“Which in itself is attempted collusion. You just said it. The meeting was intended to get dirt on Hillary Clinton from a Kemlin lawyer.”

Giuliani said that was a no-no:

“No, no. That was the original intention of the meeting, it turned out to be a meeting about another subject and it was not pursued at all. … And of course, any meeting with regards to getting information on your opponent is something any candidate’s staff would take.”

After Todd emphasized the Russian element, Rudy asserted that some parties involved — including Donald Jr. — may not have realized Natalia Veselnitskaya was Russian out the outset:

“All they knew is that a woman with a Russian name wanted to meet with them. … This is much ado about nothing. … If this is their case for collusion, good luck Mueller.”

Giuliani’s claim doesn’t come out of left field; Trump himself alluded to the same two weeks ago, though without specifying it was Clinton:

However, in 2017, a statement by Trump nodded to a wholly different reason for the get-together:

“We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago.”

Well, then.

Either way, I maintain my belief that the Mueller investigation will never cease. It will live longer than any of us, though never finding any evidence of impeachable crimes by Trump. The only thing I haven’t figured out is how Mueller will remain in order to conduct it. He’d better be working out and eating sensibly. Forever is a long, long time. Especially when you’re engaged in something this goofy.
