Sen. Ron Johnson Says 'Yes' to Brennan's Dismissal, 'No' to More of the Same (Plus: Brylcreem and Hacky Sack!)

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson has a no-problemo attitude toward the revocation of former CIA head John Brennan’s White House security clearance; however, he doesn’t want to see such a practice become commonplace He said as much on Fox News Sunday.

Via Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, President Trump defended the Brennan move Wednesday by citing “lying” and “increasingly frenzied commentary” on the part of the ex-director:

“Mr. Brennan has recently leveraged his status as a former high-ranking official with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations — wild outbursts on the Internet and television — about this administration. Mr. Brennan’s lying and recent conduct, characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary, is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation’s most closely held secrets, and [facilitates] the very aim of our adversaries, which is to sow division and chaos.”

With that, Johnson is — in a word — cool:

“The best way of handling this is if you don’t have confidence in former CIA officials or government officials that you’re not going to be consulting with, just don’t gain them access. … You gain access when you have a need to know. If you’re not going to be consulted, you don’t have a need to know. … John Brennan really did cross the line. He’s one of the leaders of the resistance movement. I understand why President Trump is pretty frustrated.”

However, like Brylcreem, “a little dab’ll do ya” (major bonus points upon you if you get the reference):

“I don’t want to see this become routine. I don’t want to see this become politicized.”

Well…we’ll see about that. On Saturday, The Washington Post asserted there’s a docket of more security clearance removals, purposed to impact the news cycle in favor of Trump.

As for Brennan, he should’ve expected no less — he called President Trump actions in Helsinki “treasonous” (please read here). Donald Trump is like the Zohan — you don’t mess with him.
