Trump: Documents Show Spying on Carter Page was Illegal

On Sunday, Donald Trump tweeted that documents connected to the Department of Justice’s surveillance of former campaign advisor Carter Page prove the DoJ is guilty of courtroom misrepresentation.

“Congratulations to @JudicialWatch and @TomFitton on being successful in getting the Carter Page FISA documents. As usual they are ridiculously heavily redacted but confirm with little doubt that the Department of ‘Justice’ and FBI misled the courts. Witch Hunt Rigged, a Scam!”

The Prez said the DoJ’s spying on Page is looking more and more to be of the “illegal” variety:

“Looking more & more like the Trump Campaign for President was illegally being spied upon (surveillance) for the political gain of Crooked Hillary Clinton and the DNC. Ask her how that worked out – she did better with Crazy Bernie. Republicans must get tough now. An illegal Scam!”

On Saturday, the Justice Department released material showing that the Federal Bureau of Investigation “believes Page has been the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government…to undermine and influence the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election in violation of U.S. criminal law.”

The FBI also contends, according to the documents, that Page “has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government.”

Yikes.

However, the 400-page package was heavily edited.

Nevertheless, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi — for all those of you who relish her every thoughtsaid in a statement that the dossier constitutes “clear evidence of ‘Russia’s coordination with Carter Page’…to undermine and improperly and illegally influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”

Page maintains he did nothing wrong, telling Fox News in 2017 that he “did nothing that could even be possibly viewed as helping them in any way.”

He was certainly unimpressed with the documents, making that clear Saturday while speaking with The Hill:

“I’m having trouble finding any small bit of this document that rises above complete ignorance and/or insanity.”

Furthermore, House Republicans stated in a now-public memo that the Department of Justice in fact abused its authority in spying on Page. According to the House Intelligence Committee, warrants were based on the Steele dossier, which was funded, in part, by Hillary Clinton. You know, this person:

Not surprisingly, Democrats on the committee later said the surveillance was A-OK.

But:

Judicial Watch, which has reviewed the documents, slung this on Saturday:

“[The documents] confirm the FBI and DoJ misled the courts in withholding info about Clinton-DNC being behind the info used to get the FISA warrant.”

And the saga continues.

There is certainly reason to believe the FBI was tainted with anti-Trump bias (please see here and here).

I cannot remember another person in power in America who has faced more opposition than Donald J. Trump.

And yet, he continues to thrive.
