*shaking head* This is the perfect example of why I'm disillusioned with RS, actually. You have a SIMPLE request that requires virtually no effort to achieve, and not only is it not done, there's no explanation for the refusal; furthermore, in response to such a pedestrian request, people start piling on and calling the guy names (stay classy!); to add to the cruelty, people then mock him and tell him to break the rules to get what he wants.

Wow, guys. I'm seriously underwhelmed. Tell me, do you steal candy from babies and pick the wings off flies, too? Seriously. Is this how you treat "the least of these"? You do realize that this is precisely the kind of thing that DKos and HuffPo pick up to use as an example of "mean-spirited conservatives", right?

And I see a little tag line just below my post that says, "Be respectful, or be banned." I don't see much of that respect here -- just institutional cruelty.

on "of bbs’s, listserv’s, forums etc since the early/mid 90’s as well. " would know how to at least code a blockquote or something. Yet, strangely you utilize none.

What I meant was the longer you go on about this, the more your petulance and immaturity show. Had you stopped sometime back many would merely have called you a whiner. Now, you're like a child throwing a temper tantrum over nothing to get attention.

To prove how awesome this post is, for the rant that follows, replace the word "couple" with post, and you should get an idea of just how awesome this post is:

Just stopping by to recommend this truly great post. I can tell you poured your heart into this, and it really shows. You should make posts with this sort of passion more often!

I look forward to reading many more excellent contributions by you, Mr. ajl_mo.

In fact, the only person I think I've ever seen make a post more awesome than yours was the now late 4palin.

I'd rather the admin's just close the account just with my asking politely. But if I need to violate a posting rule to satisfy an admin, that's one I'm OK with.

The next open thread I'll ask to have my account closed. Though I'm not holding my breath, maybe it'll be closed.

>I have forum/bulletin board memberships that date back to the to early to mid-90s before they became all flashy as they are now. Some of those sites may no longer exist but closing a membership on any one of them is simply a matter of walking away.
*********
Since you've stayed out of it you may not have seen this in one of my earlier posts so I'll type it again. I've been part of bbs's, listserv's, forums etc since the early/mid 90's as well. And I never had to do more than send an e-mail (or two) to have an account closed. Usually it's even easier than that. On the flip side I have been burned by having dusty old accounts still active. That is why I now close them when I no longer wish to have them remain open.

>The admins eventually purge inactive memberships even if it’s years later.
*********
If that's the case with this forum no one has mentioned it to me. If an admin reply to any of my e-mails or early postings had said "Accounts with X months of inactivity are automatically closed" that would have an acceptable answer.

>You, on the other hand, are not silent but increasingly looking childish while trying to call everyone else childish.
*********
I've not called any one childish. I've called the suggestions that I drop the intentionally drop the f-bomb or the n-word to get an automatic ban childish. Because it is. I realize most the people suggesting that route were, in a way, trying to be helpful. So I explained my reasoning why I didn't and won't.

>you haven’t yet learned to quit while you’re ahead.
*********
Please explain when I was ahead.

I've asked for an admin to close my account because I can't do it. If there was a little button I could push in the profile or an e-mail I could send I would have done it. I'm no further ahead or behind where I was when I started trying to have my account closed via e-mail.

This goofy "closing account" conversation reminds me of part of a Newsmax email I recieved on the 15th of this month (11/15/09):
--Excerpt--
More Than 3 Million Registered Voters Are Dead

There's an easy explanation for low voter turnout in some areas of the country — more than 3.3 million voters on registration rolls are, in fact, dead.

And another 12.9 million voters remain on registration rolls in an area where they no longer live, according to an analysis by Aristotle International Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based company that provides voting data to political consultants and others.

That means that about 9 percent of all registered voters are "deadwood" voters — the term for voters no longer able to vote in a precinct.

"With deadwood exceeding one in seven in some counties, candidates might as well spend a day a week campaigning in the cemetery," John Aristotle Phillips, CEO of the company, told CNS News.

The state with the highest percentage of deadwood voters is Massachusetts, where 116,483 registered voters are dead — 3.38 percent of the state's total — and 538,567 no longer live in the area where they are registered to vote.

Other states with a large percentage of deadwood voters include New Hampshire, West Virginia, and Wyoming, according to the Aristotle International analysis.

North Carolina is the state with the lowest percentage of voters considered deadwood. Although 3.5 percent of registered voters there are dead, just 30,888, or 0.5 percent, no longer live where they are registered to vote.

"Deadwood on voter rolls complicates the electoral process and can cause problems like fraud," said Phillips, and it "always creates a perception of low voter turnout."

I find it interesting that it is apparently possible to determine exactly how many registered voters are "deadwood" (9% or mighty close to 1 in 10 nationwide), but they can't easily just close out their accounts either. Hmmm... I DO hopefully assume that being dead will at least be considered a valid reason for avoiding jury duty? :-)

I assume there are some built in protections that makes it very hard to take names off the voter rolls to prevent accidents or etc., but its certainly very odd how it all works out. Actually knowing how many are dead or no longer living in their registered areas and yet unable to remove their names....

Explaining exactly why this is might even make a good diary....

–Excerpt–
More Than 3 Million Registered Voters Are Dead

There’s an easy explanation for low voter turnout in some areas of the country — more than 3.3 million voters on registration rolls are, in fact, dead.

And another 12.9 million voters remain on registration rolls in an area where they no longer live, according to an analysis by Aristotle International Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based company that provides voting data to political consultants and others.

That means that about 9 percent of all registered voters are “deadwood” voters — the term for voters no longer able to vote in a precinct.

“With deadwood exceeding one in seven in some counties, candidates might as well spend a day a week campaigning in the cemetery,” John Aristotle Phillips, CEO of the company, told CNS News.
