It’s Now 2:00PM Central and I’ve been trying to load my Diary since 11:30am…I’m pledging $50 to fix the Problem!

Can someone tell me if this is what Red State is going to be into perpetuity?

I know I’m the second person today to belly ache about this and I don’t want to ruffle feathers but what is it going to take to get an answer? I love this site and I love the people here and I wouldn’t throw this out there if I didn’t really care about the site and the people who run it! I’ve heard Red State referred to as Political Crack….well…I’m going through DDTs!

We were told this would all go away once we were through the Drudge and Troll wars…well??

Once a post is made it has become impossible to enter “My Diary” to read and reply to comments. I think most posters have stopped trying to comment on Diaries because it’s not worth the hassle. I know I’ve begun just posting to My Diary because it will still let me post Diaries and going somewhere else to interact with my Conservative/Republican brethren because I can’t enter “My Diary” to reply to commenters!

Many of the posters keep hitting reload and posting numerous times…I know…I’ve done it myself…so I’ve learned to stay away from the reload button…I’ll post something…leave the diary or thread…go all the way back to the home page…scroll down and find the Diary I posted to….cut and past my comment, (which I’ve written in word so I won’t lose it)….post it again because it looks like nothing has posted…and then 15 minutes latter…I’ve got 3 of the same comments posted in a thread.

Someone posted a Diary 7 to 9 times the other day and pushed everyone off the member’s diary board!

If it means buying new servers, or replacing the platform, or software or a law suit against the crooks that sold Red State this steaming pile of crap! whatever the H!@@ it is, I’ll pledge $50 right now to get this thing fixed and I urge you all to make a pledge in this thread.

My only condition for this pledge is that someone tell us what is currently being done and what it will take to fix this. How much will it cost and when can we expect the 500 errors and multiple posts to end. Will it ever be possible to interact with the site without spending hours trying to find creative ways around all the problems?

I know Neil has had to have pulled his hair out trying to work this mess out and I don’t want a soul to dump on him…Anyone who does will face my wrath. so this isn’t an attack on anyone…it is a plea….I’m begging….please let us know what is going on…because the suspense is killing me!

I know the administrators are trying but I think it’s time to face up to reality and call this a lesson learned. Red State 3.0 is a failure and it’s time to either fall back to 2.0 or move on to 4.0!

At the very least, can we please get someone to take the time to give us an update on what is being done and what the future plans are for this site…We’ve been begging for such an update since Red State 3.0 started.

I’m not sure if your serious about Pirate Day causing the problems…but what does that say that something so silly can lock up the site if so?

I gave $25 last week

kowalski (Diary) Friday, September 19th at 3:06PM EST (link)

And I am pledging $25 for next week to match it, and I’ll repost here when I’ve sent it. We’ve already been through this many times and there have been as many explanations for why Redstate is slow as there were for why the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, but the bottom line is usually pretty simple, and it usually comes down to either a basic flaw in the engineering or money, or both: “Nature cannot be fooled.”

I can’t help with the engineering from where I am, but I can and will help with the money part.

However, for my money I want to see:

1) A serious explanation concerning how the problems are being addressed, not a serious explanation of how they are being talked about.

2) A comprehensive plan for how much it will cost to fix the #*$&@ thing, one that people can get their minds around. At least some kind of ballpark.

3) Accountability in terms of who got the site here in the first place, despite the best efforts and infinite patience and hard work of a few people. I’ve already suggested rolling people out onto the lawn of Eagle Publishing and shooting them, and since that hasn’t happened yet, I can only assume that they’re still alive.

Perhaps they shouldn’t be, in the sense I’m talking about.

Thanks neil...that's at least something

But on the other hand, people know rollouts are tough.

I’m not trying to cast (unreasonable) blame and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is, again. I just want to see a real explanation when all of this is over: because up until this point it’s been a case study in how not to have a successful platform relaunch. The abstract version isn’t going to cut it.

It is from the last line

kowalski (Diary) Friday, September 19th at 4:29PM EST (link)

It is from the last line of Richard Feynman’s appendix to the official report compiled for the the U.S. Government after the Space Shuttle Challenger (STS-51, carrying among all the other brave souls, astronaut Sally Ride) exploded.

His appendix was a subject of controversy and was not incorporated into the final report as part of the body, but IMHO it constitutes the most important observations, and it will always be one of the most memorable and important documents any engineer should read. From the beginning and the end, respectively:

It appears that there are enormous differences of opinion as to the
probability of a failure with loss of vehicle and of human life. The
estimates range from roughly 1 in 100 to 1 in 100,000. The higher
figures come from the working engineers, and the very low figures from
management. What are the causes and consequences of this lack of
agreement?

For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over
public relations, for nature cannot be fooled.

My sincere apology

kowalski (Diary) Friday, September 19th at 5:23PM EST (link)

Sally Ride also was on the Challenger, but earlier, as the first American woman in space, and was on flights STS-7 and STS 41-G.

It was Christa McAuliffe who died when STS-51 exploded: she was the first teacher in space. I sometimes get them mixed up because of an aversion to remembering the event: I watched the Challenger explode on live television, and it was one of the most horrific moments I’ve ever experienced.

I was just kidding, ace.

Oh. And it’s time to stop with the “hang in theres.” It’s hell when your mistakes are not only made in public, but can’t be corrected in rapid order and remain here for all to see and struggle with.

But it’s fair. We can’t change our comments once they’re posted, either. And the slowness causes us to bypass the “preview comment” feature.

And for all of us who are complaining, there is a solution. Find another home, or at least go away until things are better. The site is addictive, though.

I can't really say more though

Neil Stevens (Diary) Friday, September 19th at 5:52PM EST (link)

The last thing we need is for me to tell you about what we’re planning, have me make a mistake in explaining it, and have a misunderstanding cause a giant uproar.

Or worse, if I explain what we’re trying, and it doesn’t work out, so we have to abort the plan and try something else. That will just lead to disappointment and more frustration for you guys.

So when I have something to report, I will report it. I’d love to tell you guys everything I know, and everything I’m going to be working on over the next few weeks. But I just can’t without the great potential for it to cause more trouble than it’s worth.

There is a plan though, and its implementation has already begun.

Better to just fix it and let the pudding be its own proof.

I once went through a MAJOR project, one affecting new product rollout at field offices all over the US and Canada. The worst day was the one I had to say, “It’s not going to be ready. We need some months more than the original estimate.”

Fortunately, that memory is fading. And it wasn’t in front of all those people every day, either. Thankfully, it did roll out successfully on the revised schedule.

I’ll just wait for the announcement that all is well. Matey. Say, what’s with the “talk like a pirate day,” anyway?
