President-elect Trump has offered Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions the post of attorney general, sources directly involved in the selection process tell CBS News.
As Major Garrett notes, Sessions has long been considered one of the most conservative Senators. He was the first elected official to endorse Donald Trump.
Speculation that it might be Ted Cruz reached peak yesterday. It would have been a natural fit for Cruz, who was a Deputy Attorney General under Bush and served as the Solicitor General of Texas. Though the odds aren’t great, this does mean his name is still in the hat for other appointments, including (longshot) the Supreme Court.
