NEW POLL: Hillary Not Trusted but Still Thwomping Trump in Latest National Poll

Filed under: Well, duh. Hillary Clinton is beating Trump in every poll, and has been for awhile. Today, the new CNN/ORC poll came out and it is once again nothing but bad for the Trump campaign and the GOP. Despite a somewhat narrowing margin, a very unpopular and untrusted Hillary remains well ahead of a very unpopular and almost universally disliked Donald Trump.

In a head-to-head matchup, Hillary is ahead of Trump by five points, down from her lead in late April, in a poll released in early May, of an insane 13 points. But the fact that her lead has diminished is not the good news some think it is.

HILLARY-TRUMP

Hillary is very unpopular, and in June we’ve seen more of her, and heard more about her from Trump, than at any point leading up to the April poll. Additionally, the gun-grabbing response of Democrats following the events in Orlando was a guaranteed quick trip to a polling dip. I can’t think of any other Republican who would have squandered their bungling worse than Trump did when he inexplicably jumped on their bandwagon and cast blame on the NRA instead of what should have been an easy shot for him, at radical Islam. He utterly blew it.

In the April/May poll, Ted Cruz was still in the race.

Even with all those factors, she still leads him by five. But that’s not the only reason the poll is bad news. Another is that she still leads him when the other candidates, including the Libertarian, are added to the mix. It’s Clinton 42, Trump 38, Johnson 9, Stein 7. She’s still ahead by four.

But still, with Trump clinching, Clinton clinching, and the race changing, the fact that her support dropped from 54 to 47, while Trump’s went up by one might leave room for spin, if it weren’t for the existence of the rest of the poll.

For one thing, Republicans do not support Trump. In fact, they unsupport in him in droves. For another, people continue to disapprove of individual moves he makes. Take, for example, banning media from covering him:

That is 71% calling it inappropriate. There’s no comparable metric for Hillary. She hasn’t, as a person running to be President of the United States of America, banned the press from covering her campaign.

Fifty-six percent of respondents think Hillary is better suited for the office temperamentally. Only 32% think Trump is. Whereas 45 percent say Donald Trump is more honest and trustworthy, 37 percent say Hillary is. A tighter margin, but like most of the poll questions, it’s not “good” news for either candidate. Or for America.

Taken together with other polls, it’s all bad news for both, but worse for Donald, who trails in the RealClearPolitics average by 5.8.

You know, the words “I told you so” are coming up a lot in this election year.
