The real story you stumbled on here is the seedy soft underbelly of the ad agency business. The creatives at top ad agencies are always looking to pad their resumes with creative awards. To get them they bend and break rules.

For example many times the commercials that win an award are "agency versions" that never actually aired or perhaps they aired once at 3AM. Clients sometimes go along with this but many times are unaware.

What this looks like is a brazen attempt by Ogilvy to submit work for a client it doesn't even have. Or perhaps a campaign it proposed but was killed.

Either way someone at Ogilvy should be fired. You can't blame the CLIOs. There is no way to check the authenticity of every entry submitted.

The problem with submitting fake ads to an awards festival is that you might win. And with something as controversial as this, it's bound to blow up in your face.

...were as careful and insightful as you are, Caleb. In an opinion piece, you've done better reporting than most hard news journalists!

Keep digging!
