Heck on hot summer evenings in the ’70′s, we used to sit out on the porch here in NYC, and listen to the pop pop of pistol shots, as much of a summer sound as the crickets in the country – and increases with temperature and humidity.

Now the crack of a high powered rifle will always get my attention, as will the unique sound of an AK-47. But flinch at a ceremonial rifle, not a city boy that Obama..

Look, I really want it to be clear, I do NOT like President Obama. I am opposed to many, many of his policy decisions so far. I’d like to see stronger action vis-a-vis pirates. I think he totally pussed out with regard to the NorK missile launch. I disagree with his intent to bailout GM (I disagreed with the Bush administration on that too). I disagree with the ridiculously large budget and the shrinking Military budget. I wish we had actually gotten to see his birth certificate. I’m not happy with having a trade war with Mexico, although I’d like to see tighter border controls and NO AMNESTY for illegal immigrants, regardless of how many citizen children they have pinched out on our shores.

All that being said, this video is stupid, and so are any derogatory posts associated with it.

I served in Afghanistan from April of 2007 to May of 2008. Two guys in my company extended for 6 months, to make a bit more money, and one of them was killed in late may of last year. I attended his funeral, and he was buried at a Veterans cemetery in nearby Anderson, SC. And I jumped at the rifle fire at his funeral.

It’s easy to get distracted, to be thinking about someone else, and flinch when the rifle salute sounds off. It doesn’t indicate that you’re completely unfamiliar with the military (although he is) or that you hate all things military (although he seems to), or that you’re a coward and live in fear of being shot down because of your race.

Just sayin’, this is one of those things that makes us sound stupid. And what’s more likely to end up on the news? This, or a really well-grounded argument about some particular policy decision by the current administration?

LOL I’ve been in the military now for a total of 12 years. I’m not skittish of gunfire. I’m an infantry soldier and I love it. I’ve been shooting since I was 12 or so, and was a competition pistol shooter in college. I’m quite accustomed to the sound of rifle fire.

I’m just saying when the rifles fire and you AREN’T EXPECTING IT, a flinch like that is perfectly natural. Does it show that BHO is unaccustomed to the drill and ceremony that he participates in? Yes. Does it show that his WH handlers are incompetent and aren’t walking him through the ceremony beforehand so he’s ready? Yes, but we already knew this WH was incompetent.

I understand that you don’t like President Obama, and like I said, I don’t either. But this is not evidence that he’s a coward, it’s just evidence that he is 1) overconfident in his ability to wing it, and 2) handled by people who aren’t terribly good at what they do.
